      Tuscany —> Cinque Terre

      July 21, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

We said goodbye to our Tuscan villa and drove back to Florence to drop off our car which took about half an hour. Surprisingly, the Italians had started work early and so we were able to drop the car slightly earlier to give us more time to get to the train station!

We were reunited with Nicky and Alex outside the train station and boarded our train on route to Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre. We arrived on the coast and initially felt the cool seaside breeze, however we got very hot carrying our bags up lots of stairs to our Airbnb!

We checked into our Airbnb and saw what an amazing view we had from the balcony! We could see over all of Riomaggiore and out over the water!

We then went for a quick walk for lunch - we had the very popular seafood in a cone! We also bought some supplies before going for a very refreshing swim from the rocks/marina. It required a bit of a rock climb but we were very happy when we were in the beautiful salty water!

We headed back to the place to chill out, have pasta for dinner and drinks and play some cards.

      Tag 4/8 Die Cinque Terre

      August 19, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

      Riomaggiore

      November 17, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Read more

      Riomaggiore

      September 8, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

We've made it, but oh, my goodness...the walk from the train station, pulling luggage, up the hill, to our 4th floor ( these steep stairs are nowhere near code !) Poor Pat carried both suitcases up the stairs... but once here, it's worth it!Read more

      Riomaggiore

      May 1 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

Riomaggiore - Raindrops keep falling on my head!
Woke to drizzle and sometimes rain, so Derek decided not to walk the trails. We walked down to harbour and 'beach' before breakkie in the main street which was colorful with umbrellas and the tour groups streaming in. We decided to train hop to see the towns.
First stop - Manarola. Lovely town with main street wending up into the hills, with church at the top. Derek and I did a loop walk that took us to a high path alongside gardens of vines and flowers. Judith opted for a more leisurely wander in the town.
Second stop - Corniglia. It was quite a hike up to the town from the station - luckily there was a shuttle bus that we could take for the trip back. The town was a real surprise - tiny and seemingly not much to it, but the we discovered a maze of narrow alleyways and stairs to a piazza overlooking the water and back to Manarola. Lunch at a tiny cafe.
Third Stop - Vernazza - a bustling largish town centred on its lively harbour. Derek wanted to follow the trail up and out of town to take a photo, - Judith and I opted for coffee at one of the many cafes, huddled under umbrellas ( sadly not from the sun) for shelter from the off and on rain.
Fourth Stop - Monterosso. It was raining fairly persistently by the time we got into the town from the station, and got even heavier while we wandered around the quaint and winding streets. It was too wet and miserable to be able to enjoy unfortunately, and we retreated to a Cafe and shelter for aperitivo.

Back to Riomaggiore later than planned - about 7.30. We decided to stop for dinner in the main street near our apartment before going home. Lovely meal to end an enjoyable if not-to-plan day.

Read more

    • Day 3

      Corniglia/ Manarola/Riomaggiore

      April 9 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Me and Alice started the day doing the hike Vernazza to Corniglia, it was sooo nice and the view was insanely beautiful! We wondered around the village for a while and headed to Manarola, the town has the cutest little shops and we grabbed lunch around there. We ended up the day in Riomaggiore, I was soooo excited to go there and for sure was one of my favorites! The village is bigger than the others and the beach was nice even tho the weather was not the great, me and Alice just chilled there for a couple of hours and went out for some drinks. I had the busy day :)Read more

      A day in Riomaggerio

      October 15, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Ollie and I started our day with a leisurely walk through the sleepy town. Feels very safe and Ollie enjoys time wondering without being in the pram.

At the end of our walk we brought out fresh bread, eggs and an Americano for mummy.

Whilst preparing breakfast we did our daily calls starting with daddy who never answers! Mum next then Annie snd then the Ukrainians who are always eating and drinking when we face time.

After lounging, doing laundry, hanging out clothes outside the window on a pulley, we headed out to explore. When we opened door to go outside an elderly Neighbour asked me to wring out my clothes before hanging as now her dry clothes beneath our line. Lesson learnt.

After walking for two hours Ollie had pizza and a movie at home. I used the time to catch up on my neglected travel diary.

We have been travelling since 26 September and today was the first day to relax and think about easy days ahead. 1. Walk. 2.breakfast and catching up with family at home and general organisation. 3. Main activity for the day making sure I have some hidden treats for my brave walking companion 4. Couple hours lounge time. 5. Brief explore and find dinner to take home and cook you night I did fresh pasta with butter and garlic for Ollie. Me I had anchovies and most beautiful baby tomatoes. 6. Small walk for ice cream and people watching. It is not tourist season but still enough foreign accents floating around.
      7. Home wash feet hands and teeth and to bed. We only stay awake until 6.30 Italy time hence we are up early.

      Vernazza

      October 15, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We purchased the Cinque Terre rail pass. 40 Eros and Ollie free. For the next three days we can travel between the four villages endlessly.

Vernazza is the last stop and the busiest but the best. Access to the ocean.

We had a four star lunch on the ocean edge.

This village was home to wealthy Italians. Hence the building are larger snd grander than her sister villages.

In 2011 Vetnazza was hit with a massive flood down the centre of the village.
