      Yokohama

      24. august 2023, Japan ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

      Yokohama Skyline

      15. oktober 2023, Japan ⋅ 🌧 61 °F

By the time we returned to the ship, we were both soaked from the rain and sweaty, so it was time for showers.

The late afternoon skies in Yokohama treated us to swirling pastel arabesques followed by a beautiful sail away.Les mer

      Safe and sound in Tokio

      15. august 2023, Japan ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Beautiful sunshine greets us for our last sea day. A morning swim and a very light breakfast in the arts cafe.
Art gallery shows all our beautiful creations done in art classes with Betty and Henry. Collage, printing, watercolor and jewelry… so clever.
Grill lunch in sunshine by the pool with warm weather.
      It’s time for Packing!!!
Farewell dinner in Indochine and we have our last lobster. So much seafood!
Piano man farewell and I am a singing star and I give a speech to thank Mark Ferris.

Transfer to the ship, Yokohama is an attractive looking port. Our arrival / boarding procedure was very swift. Celebrity Millennium is 20 years old, had a major facelift 5 years ago, overall pretty good. Looks even better after 2 glasses of champagne…Les mer

      Yokohama

      31. mars, Japan ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

Aunque me dolieron mucho aquellas palabras y comportamientos malvados, ahora me he hecho más fuerte.

      Our adventure to the pier

      9. oktober 2016, Japan ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

After waiting for the rain to clear we finally decided on the taxi option to get to Tokyo station. The directions were a little confusing so after arriving at platform 9 as advised we were lucky to get someone who helped explain it was actually platform 9 we needed for our non reserved class tickets. After lining up on platform 10 we thought again best to ask a local and it was fortunate as we were waiting in premium queuing. Eventually we had the right place and were off to yokohama.

After arriving at yokohama we then found others who were a little list and also going to the boat. Next was the challenge of getting the minatorimai line to our final stop and getting the tickets and onto the train was without a hitch but we had gotten on a limited express train so arrived at the other end having missed our intended destination. We figured it out and went back the required 1 stop to our final destination. A short walk later we were at Osanbashi pier and are now beginning check in for the cruise

      Tokyo to Yokohama

      13. oktober 2017, Japan ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

We caught the 10:30am train to Yokohama. The trip took around 30 minutes. We then changed to the subway for the last part of the journey to Nihon-Odori. It was about a 650m walk to Osanbashi Pier and we had a short wait to board the ship. We had lunch in the Lido and then we went to a Mariner Society welcome drinks. We sat with a couple from Canada who had done lots of cruises. They were both retired school teachers and had an Australian daughter-in-law. Not long after we sat down, Cathryn saw two familiar faces enter the Crows Nest for the Mariner drinks. It was Sarah and Ann, we couldn't believe it and neither could they! We met them on our first Holland America cruise from Singapore to Hong Kong in 2015. Certainly is a small world. After catching up, we finished unpacking and then got ready for the lifeboat drill at 7:30pm, followed by dinner at 8pm. We enjoyed dinner in the Main dining room followed by the show at 9:30pm. On the way back to the cabin we sat and listened to the Ocean Trio (formerly the Neptunes). The female pianist and singer were excellent.Les mer

      The Diamond Princess

      11. april 2019, Japan ⋅ 🌬 14 °C

Our metro tickets got us a good way out of Tokyo but not to the cruise port. So we had to get off at Meguro metro and buy a train ticket to Nihon-Odori. Annoyingly we would actually be getting back on the same train on which we'd arrived; it apparently became a 'train' rather than a 'metro' at Meguro. However finding how and where to buy tickets from became a bit of a mission. Whilst the ticket machines have English options, tickets are sold by distance travelled rather than by station travelling to...argh! Google was great at giving us the route and getting us this far but this was another matter entirely. After trying to converse across a language barrier, we eventually found a map on which the cost of each station was noted and we took a chance on the ticket we needed.

At Nihon-Odori, having managed to get out of the station with our tickets, we walked to the port and boarded the Diamond Princess, along with 2,800 other passengers. Throwing the luggage in the stateroom, and watching the dodgiest safety video ever (where the safety instructions were sung to the Love Boat theme time) we headed upstairs for sailaway. Impressively, we sailed under a bridge with just two metres clearance, whilst the cruise director and staff danced joyously to Gangnam Style underneath.

The evening was Ben's time to shine - music trivia. 20 tiny snippets of song introductions, from which the goal was to name the song and the artist. We/he scored an impressive 26/40 but sadly not enough to win the champagne. So we headed off to dinner where we avoided talking to the tables next to us, enjoyed a lovely meal and then headed back to the room to read.
