      37. Salina Cruz, Zwischenstopp

      Unser Ziel an der Pazifikküste 🌊, "Puerto Escondido" liegt zu weit von unserer jetzigen Unterbringung entfernt, deshalb einen Zwischenstopp mit einer Übernachtung 💤🛌💤 auf der Hälfte der Strecke in "Salina Cruz" geplant.
      Über die Internetplattform "Booking.com" scheinen wir was Nettes gefunden zu haben.
      A B E R..., angekommen, besichtigt und für NICHT GUT befunden.
      Ein Zimmer ohne Fenster, einzig EIN Glasbaustein in der Schlafzimmerdecke eingebaut. SO sah das auf den Bildern nicht wirklich aus. Zum Glück noch kostenfrei stornierbar und wir suchen uns etwas Neues.
      Ja, hier im Hotel "One Salina Cruz" können wir es gut aushalten, Frühstück 🥚☕🥐 ist mit drin.
      Wir gehen noch 'ne Pizza 🍕 essen und verbringen den Rest des Tages auf unserem Zimmer.      Read more

      Salina Cruz Oct. 20th-22nd

      After a few raining days in Barra de La Cruz and some surfing we headed to Salina Cruz. Along the way we stopped at Playa Bamba. There was a point break but it was very windy and would be for a few days. So we continued south to Salina Cruz. NIk had stayed there with a family previously and we opted to stay in the dorm room. The room had a/c but was pretty basic. To surf Salina you have to pay a "guide", some local rule they have there. The guy doesn't even surf with you, he just accompanies you to the beach. The waves were small and windy at Punta Conejo. We also didn't want to pay some jackass to surf so we just stayed one night. Other than the bad waves the area was beautiful and made some good photos. Unfortunately, three days after we left a oil spill at the port nearby covered the beaches around Salina Cruz. We were off to San Cristobol next with a stop in Tonala as a mid way point.Read more

      Ich bin froh gestern auf den Angestellten der Tankstelle gehört zu haben, obwohl ich mich für weitere 40 - 50 Kilometer fit fühlte. Gleich der erste Anstieg heute morgen war 20 Kilometer lang. Die nächsten Anstiege waren kürzer, aber dafür wurde es deutlich wärmer. 38° im Schatten macht keinen Spaß.
      Für die Mühle in Räbke habe ich auch noch ein Foto. Von speziellen Kaktenen werden die "Blätter " entfernt und der übrig gebliebene Korpus wird grob geschnitten und dann solange mit dem Mühlstein bearbeitet, bis eine Flüssigkeit entweicht, die über verschiedene Herstellundsprozesse zu Mescal wird. Strohrum lässt grüßen, der Alkoholgehalt liegt bei über 50%.
      Jetzt bin ich in Tehuantepec angekommen. Hier hatte ich die Auswahl, Zimmer mit Klimaanlage oder mit Ventilator. Klimaanlage kostet 100 Pesos mehr (5.- €). Die letzten beiden Hotels kosteten 200 Pesos, die hatten aber auf der Kloschüssel keine Abdeckung. Aber durchs Radfahren habe ich gut trainierte Oberschenkel.
      Wenn alles gut geht, werde ich Tapachula in 3 oder 4 Tagen erreichen. Deshalb werde ich morgen das Touristinformationszentrum besuchen und hoffen, dass ich ausreichende Informationen zu meiner weiteren Reise bekomme. Tapachula ist jedenfalls eine der Hauptrouten der Menschen, die aus dem Süden kommen. Momentan ist keine Karawane im Anmarsch.
      Auch wenn ich Spanisch sprechen kann, so ist nicht zu übersehen, dass ich ein Gringo bin. Diese Bezeichnung ist nicht unbedingt positiv besetzt. Eigentlich sollte damit nur einer als Ausländer erkannt werden. Leider wird damit ein unwissender Tourist oder ein Bürger der USA bezeichnet, den sie in Mexiko gar nicht gerne sehen, besonders seit Trump Präsident ist und erwartet, dass Mexiko die Mauer zwischen den beiden Staaten bezahlen soll.
      Gerade ist vor dem Hotel ein Umzug mit Musik vorbei gekommen. Es ist der Jahrestag eines Vereins oder aller Vereine?? Auf jeden Fall wird jetzt für einen Monat lang an jedem Abend irgendwo in der Stadt gefeiert.      Read more

      New Longest Day

      We made a serious effort the next morning to beat the heat and woke up at 5:30 am, cooked breakfast in the dark and rode off into the sunrise at 6:40 am. We made good progress in the relatively cool morning hours so Holly started to think we could make it all the way to Salina Cruz in one day. Karl (who is proud of his ability to wear the same thing all day while backcountry skiing and not sweat) was really struggling with the 40 degree heat though, so we took numerous breaks in the shade and poured water on him whenever it was available. Even the cows we saw in the fields along the way looked like they were struggling to survive. By 2:30 pm we had 35 km to go so decided we had plenty of daylight to get to Salina Cruz. One more big hill and a long straight stretch with a nasty crosswind brought us to a tunnel into the port city. We particularly enjoyed this tunnel as it sheltered us from the wind and sun, and cut out a hill we thought we would have to climb over - too bad there weren't more tunnels on this road! Erika (who we had stayed with in Oaxaca City) had asker her sister Patty in Salina Cruz if she could host us, so we bought a few groceries and made our tired legs push us to Patty and Cesar's house in a suburb 10 km outside of the city built to house employees of the giant Pemex refinery in Salina Cruz. We were once again welcomed into their home with open arms, plied with cold drinks and delicious food, and asked numerous questions by their kids, Leonardo and Sofia, as they explored our interesting gear.Read more

      L'avantage d'un hôtel miteux ça te motive à te lever tôt.
      Il a quand même fait chaud dès 9h. Mais le vent s'est levé sur la fin. De jolies montées et descentes encore.
      Sans trop de transpiration...
      Arrivée au village avec du sable blanc et du vent !
      Après-midi balade dans les dunes et farniente dans un filet de pêche transformé en hamac.
      Ville et plage inondées de déchets, quelle gâchis.

      Réveil pour voir le lever du soleil, mais retomber dans le lit après. Comme c'était une petite étape, j'avais l'objectif de profiter de l'aprem sur la plage.
      Finalement je m'arrête beaucoup, pause soda, pause mirador et pause rencontre avec des cyclotouristes :)
      Heureusement car la plage n'était pas terrible en fait, très industriel.
      Arrivée à Salina Cruz qui sonne la fin du Pacifique. Direction Veracruz en car et le Golfe du Pacifique!
      Gite avec vue sur tout Salina Cruz, ville industrielle et pétrolière. Cuisinière directement à la Casa et soirée Disney + sur une immense télé.

      -- Puerto Escondido/Salina Cruz --
      304 km (sur 2568 km au total) en sept étapes étalées sur deux semaines. (Mazunte/Puerto Angel/Huatulco/Barra de Cruz/Bahia Chipehua pour les stops intermédiaires)

      Le chiffre le plus fou sur cette partie est le dénivelé : 3700m. Aucune montagne traversée mais des montagnes russes sur ces 300km, une suite incessante de montées et de descentes. De quoi casser le rythme tout le temps.

      Cependant une route sans trafic, sans pavé, sans trou. Un bonheur à pédaler.
      Avec les 32° prévus à l'ombre tous les jours, j'ai essayé plusieurs options d'horaire, départ à 8h, à 11h, à 14h et enfin le gagnant à 15h qui m'a permis de finir une heure de nuit sous des températures bien plus clémentes. Et en bonus, impossible d'anticiper les pentes de nuit.

      Retour des villages isolés sans réseau, sans touriste, avec des maisons simples faites de parpaings et de tôle. Mais toujours avec une mamie bien plus petite que moi pour me préparer à manger dans les quelques restaurants. Je crois que les plus heureux sont les coqs et les poules en total liberté dans ces villes.

      À chaque fois, comme récompense, une plage au bout de ces villages. Des plages complètement vierges de construction, où seulement quelques pêcheurs et quelques surfeurs viennent s'aventurer. Avec les cactus ici et là, j'ai bien crû être repartie en Basse Californie.

      Fin de l'Etat d'Oaxaca, c'étaient les derniers tronçons qui longeaient le Pacifique, les dernières plages de cette mer, les dernières plongées ici aussi où la visibilité est devenue très mauvaise (3 à 5m à Huatulco). Direction l'Etat du Veracruz pour aller voir si le Golfe du Mexique a autant de merveilles. Plus frais mais plus humide (et un dénivelé frôlant les zéros)!      Read more

      Family of Friends of Friends...

      We earned a rest day with our 140 km ride to Salina Cruz, so spent Saturday with Patty and Cesar, Leonardo and Sophia, and Patty's father Jorge. It was a fun day of hanging out with the kids, practicing Spanish and English with Jorge, and sampling all the delicious regional food Patty served us. We continue to be amazed at the hospitaity we have received in Mexico - from family of friends of friends, or even just people we meet along the road. "Estan es su casa" (you are in your own house, i.e. make yourself at home) they say and make us feel super welcome and comfortable. Gracia Patty and Cesar!Read more

      SURF.CAMP

      Nach langer Suche, haben wir ein tolles Camp gefunden. Auch sehr rustikal, dafür sauber und nicht überteuert wie in Barra de la cruz. Wir bleiben hier für 3 Nächte. Es ist ein Platz zum Übernachten, auf dem selben Grundstücks befindet sich das Restaurant Nomada, das von einem Ehepaar aus deren Haus bedient wird. Wunderschön und sauber, sie haben Hunde und Katzen und das Essen war das beste, das wir bis jetzt in Mexiko geniessen durfen (ausser einmal in Zipolite). Sehr familiär und gemeinschaftlich. Der Besitzer hat einige freundschaftliche Gespräche mit uns geführt. Wir haben eine nette Gruppe aus 2 Amerikanern und einem Engländer getroffen und auch mit Ihnen eine gute Zeit verbracht.Read more
