    Lake Taal

    April 15 on the Philippines

Leaving Dasmarinas I was joined by four local cyclists who were cycling to church. Took one wrong turning, navigation needs to be improved.

The last part was a downhill swithback road, very scenic and more importantly cool. Tonight I'm on the shores of Lake Taal, in a small fishing village on the shore. Lunch and dinner today consisted of fresh fish from the lake.

In the center of the lake is Taal Volcano. The 2nd most active volcano in the Philippines (last erupted in 1977).

    Batangas

    April 16 on the Philippines

Left this morning at 6am to miss the heat. Still ended up drinking litres of water.

Passed through small fishing villages along the edge of the lake. And so now my name is "Joe" (even though I'm from Africa, and have no connection with the USA armed forces). Passing through the villages "Joe" is welcomed with a friendly hello.Read more

    Taal Volacano

November 10, 2016 on the Philippines

Woke up early (530 am) for sunrise.
Even though it was a little cloudy, it was stunning. The fisher men were up before us, snorkelling in the lake with spears, catching the lake fish, Tawili.

We took a long tail boat over to the Taal Volcano and walked up to the ridge to the caldera, which is now a lake with a tiny island in the middle. A lake within a lake.

We spent the rest of the day chilling by the lake 😀

    Lake Taal Yacht Club

November 11, 2016 on the Philippines

The day was slightly over cast, so we were thinking what we could do. Then we realised there is a yacht club next door!

None of us had ever sailed, and Dan was super keen to test it out, so we opted for a mini catamaran and an instructor.

The sun was shining as we set sail... smiles on our faces.... Then the storm started 😱😂

It felt more like a Alton Towers ride.... than a Durran Durran video, and my name is definitely not Rio! Was still bloody good fun though!

    Lake Taal, Philippines

November 10, 2016 on the Philippines

Arrived to Talisay, a sleepy lake shore village.
We managed to find a the Green Lake resort, which if a little rough around the edges, was in a peach of a position; right on the lake side.
Time for some well earned relaxation, before the volcano trek tomorrow 😀

    San Jose, Batangas

December 2, 2009 on the Philippines

Andres, the driver, was able to take us to Batangas (my mom's province) to visit my great-grandmother, Nanay Osciang. She was 93 years old at that time. She passed away at 99 years old. I didn't know that this was the last time I was ever going to see her. I'm glad we made the trip to visit her. She's amazing because she remembered all of us. She even kept telling me ways to have a baby sooner. Lol. I will never forget that. We really did love her. Her story, being a widow at an early age with 6 kids is inspiring. She was the greatest! That picture with Jayden is priceless - there's 3 generations in between those two. It's crazy to think that at one point, there were 5 generations in our family existing together. It was also a nice visit because we were able to see my cousins, Kuya Macho and Doucette. I grew up with them and have really missed them. Blessed truly!Read more
