      Estella

      8. mai, Spania ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

      Day 6 Estella Spain
Distance from Puente La Reina to Estella 25kms

A challenging walk today up steep rocky paths descending into rolling meadows of rye rapeseed and vineyards. We passed roadside caravans selling food/refreshments to pilgrims through numerous quaint villages crossed Roman bridges and breathed in the delightful country air. The days are warming today reaching 25c we were grateful of any shade. A long day tomorrow (30kms) and our longest to date.
These boots were made for walking and that’s just what we’ll do.

      Estella

      28. mai, Spania ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Another very hot day walking up a steep hill, and then through ondulating coun tryside to this lovely medieval town.
I have managed to hurt my quad on right leg, so fell far behind making it a long painful day. The hostel has ice packs amd we met a nurse and an athletics trainer so loads of advice on what to do. Got good pain killers, but am going to rest tomorrow. There is plenty to do here.
The good thing about walking slowly is I noticed lots of things and too some nice pictures.

Day 10. From Lorca to Azqueta

      25. mai, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

Much shorter day. 5.85 miles. We had to make a stop at Urgent care for Steve’s blisters. They were so helpful and kind to each of us. We made a pharmacy run to get what we needed. Had a second breakfast but not exactly what I was hoping for. Went to check into our albergue but it was the wrong town….so we kept on walking. Shower done , hair is done and the owner of the albergue made us the best tuna fish sandwich!!!
Walked with Petra from Sweden today. Having knee issues…helped her by giving her my hiking poles. We have ended up in the same as for the night! Also 2 from Germany that we met two nights ago is here as well. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. We feel them and appreciate them. Feeling grateful for the care Steve received today, grateful for the short day and for the best tuna fish sandwich ever!!!

Aus für den Jakobsweg wegen Corona???

      13. mars 2020, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

      Adjusting

      27. juli 2022, Spania ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

This is day 5 of my walk and I got into a good routine. Packing and unpacking every day is almost automatic, and I got much better at keeping my stuff organised, with easy access to what I need, when I need it.

I still need to adjust some of my expectations though. I came with the idea that I would support the small villages by buying my daily food from local cafes, expecting tasty local dishes made by a local person at the back of the shop.

But the reality is, some villages don't even have a cafe. Some have vending machines. And some have bars were the food is very unappealing, like the pizza I had today for lack of other options. It wasn't even fresh, it was frozen. Bigger towns and cities provide more choice.

Tomorrow I am carrying snacks for the day and hope to find an albergue with a dinner option. Those I had so far have been the best meals, all home made.

      Reflection

      5. august 2022, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

5 days ago I started my way on the Camino Frances! Time for a quick reflection! I realize that I am getting calmer and more mindful about the nature around me! „Time after time“ or step after step could be a good Soundtrack for it! The Camino teaches you that there is a huge power in supporting others! Planning is important but as important is to react flexibly in the moment! When things change, change your plans and go with the flow! Leading here means define the goal/target, find the right path for your group, and check that you are right! Make sure the people around you give you energy and make you better! And the Camino is the best school for Europeans! Spanish people feel as Europeans, which I love! Speed is a question of perspective…
And it’s important to know where you finally belong! Missing my family!

      Good morning

      6. august 2022, Spania ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

The best sleep of the week as we got the quiet room! After „Good morning“, „Boit ton café“ and „Don’t stop me now“, Silvia selected „it’s a beautiful day“ as our song of the day! We will sing „…and I just can’t stop smiling“ when we have the steep uphill today! Now it’s time for breakfast- the others are already gone! We get them later! Btw- I decided not to read the news anymore because they make me angry! Maybe football news!Les mer

      Siesta and Fiesta

      6. august 2022, Spania ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Yesterday we decided for a Siesta after our daily stretching session! Afterwards we went to there Fiesta where the bulls run through the city! Estrella was FULL of people all dressed up in white and red! Although the whole „Corsa de Torros“ is disgusting I understand that it means identity to the Basque people! Our albergue closed at 10pm so we left the party early- we met a lot of others (Italians, who else) in the kitchen and had a real pilgrim experience of sharing!Les mer

      Day 7

      30. august 2022, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

This morning seems such a long time ago… I left at my usual time yet it was already much warmer than it had been in previous days at the same time.. it was another easy walk today as regards the terrain, undulating with a few long easy climbs and thankfully no steep or dodgy downhill sections.. my two tender toes were doing a celebratory dance as they needed a downhill break 😂
Once again I spent the first hour or so passing people, lots have become regulars and I’m greeted with ( from the English speaking ones.. I’ve no idea what curses may be coming my way in other languages 😳 ) “hey, here she comes “, “was wondering when we’d see you” to “ oh, it’s you again!!” I could start developing a complex!!
Again the scenery on route was spectacular, it’s seriously stunning and I feel so lucky to be a part of something so special..
There were a couple of dodgy bits today where the signs seemed to disappear and I’d panic I’d gone wrong, especially if there were no other rucksacks in sight.. some of the towns are especially lacking.. there was one today that seemed totally deserted and I half expected to see rifles out of barn windows and for Zorro to come riding through!!!
Anyway.. I made good time again which was great as it has been seriously hot today and the place I was staying was a further 2km off the route.
After a shower, and trip to the laundry I decided to have a wander round town… and of course have a beer!
Going down to dinner tonight I was invited to join another party, two couples from the UK and two ladies ( I think they were sisters ) from Canada who had all become friends a few days earlier. I’m not great with company I don’t know, but, I had a lovely evening with them, with us all being desperate for bed before 9pm.. ( that’s actually pretty late for me at the moment 🙄 )
Now it’s definitely way past my bedtime 🥱 so goodnight 😴

    • Puente La Reina to Estella

      3. september 2022, Spania ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

We started earlier today from Puente La Reina, but it still was a hot walk. We arrived in Estella around 2pm, and got right after our chores. Now we are out walking around waiting for the restaurants to open after siesta, some at 7pm and others at 8pm. Today is the beginning of a ancient music festival. They kicked it off with ringing all the bells in the city.Les mer
