Ok, not that far into the trip but we have a three hour layover to Spokane, and I'm bored. Ken and I just planned our first stop. We're driving down to Moscow, Idaho to visit Patrick before heading north the BC. The mountain will still be there, and we should see Pat.Read more

We got into Spokane at 11pm, and called for the shuttle to this Days inn. These places are like Long Trail shelters. They are all about the same, and do what you need them to do. We'll take the shuttle back to the airport to pick up the rental car, then take a ride into Spokane for a visit and a local beer. Then we'll drive down to Moscow to visit Patrick. We probably won't see him until tomorrow morning. Quick breakfast, and we'll head north to Rossland BC to actually start the Ski Bum Tour (SBT).Read more

We were told that Spokane (Spocan) was a crappy town, but they were wrong. There were homeless around, which isn't unusual for a city of that size. The park around the river was nice. I think we caught the waterfalls at an especially active time because of the snow meltRead more

We're doing a brew pub crawl to Moscow, which I was just informed is pronounced 'Mosco'. We had all day to got to Moscow, so we needed entertainment on the way. Earlier we stopped at the No-Li Brewery in Spokane. Down the road there is a college town, Pullman, that has a nice brew pub, Paradise Creek Brewery, in an old post office.Read more

We got here about an hour ago, and found a room above the Flying Steamshovel Bar. We wanted to stay in town, not that there is a lot to do. We first stopped at the Rossland Brewery for a milk stout, and got the rundown on Red Mountain. Sounds like fun. We'll finally ski tomorrow.Read more

Yep, you're looking at it.... Rain, and it is all day. Real bad luck because they have been having a great season. In the meantime, New England is getting 2 feet of snow today. We're going to the mountain anyway to do an evaluation. Not looking good. We have reservations in Nakusp, about two hours north on the way to Revelstoke.Read more

This is a small old school ski mountain with plenty to do. The snow was deep and heavy, but it wasn't bad after I got used to it. Ken and I were skiers number 16 and 17 getting on the chairlift. We stopped at the warming hut and met all of the ski patrol guys. We had a beer with them at the end of the day. Nice place.Read more

Somewhere between Missoula and Butte on our way to Big Sky. We'll get a half day today and ski all day tomorrow. The weather is getting slightly better. We figure Big Sky is our best bet for skiing. At least we got out yesterday.Read more

Finally something to write about. There have been complainers. Big Sky with views, but not much snow. That's me complaining. We still had a nice day. People are nice. Lone Peak was beautiful to look at, but not ski. The tram was only for sightseeing. We skied.Read more

Wait.. the Ski Bum Tour continues. In our quest for snow, we had to run to northern New England to salvage the tour. We're at the Three Penny Tap Room in Montpelier, VT. Drinking local beer before heading up to Stowe tomorrow morning. Then we go up to Smugglers Notch on Wednesday. They are predicting a full inch of snow. More than we've seen on the whole tour. Exciting!Read more

Foggy. Couldn't see a thing up top, but there was enough snow on the trail to work on my form. Like riding blind... Interesting. Big wide groomers which made it easy. Not exciting, but at least we were out skiing. New plan. Go to Mad River Glen, then Smugs.Read more

Two challenges today. Cold and windy and I don't know how to ski. Snowboarders not allowed here, so I rented skis, got on the chairlift and struggled down. Not pretty, I am a fish out of water. At the top is a warming hut called Starks Nest, where I spent a night while on my LT hike. Getting up there was my goal. Did it. Tomorrow Smugglers Notch, and another LT shelter.Read more
