      Day 12

      Adventures in Bangkok

      Yummy breakfast, so much selection but we both decided on a small breakfast, being lazy and eating all the time will make us heavier than we already are.

      We then walked around the Hotel grounds, it is lovely with so much open space and heaps of restaurants. The pool area even has a children's playground that Charlie would like.

      John will now plan our activities for the next few days during the remainder of the morning while I will continue reading my 6th book.

      Back from our walk to the huge shopping mall. Apparently it is the largest shopping mall in Bangkok and 3rd in the world, it has 500 stores mostly the same as back home. We also just had to have coffee and cake at a very cute cafe, I had an Oreo Shake and John a cold Caramel Macciato and brownie cheesecake, very yummy indeed.

      Next we went poolside doing puzzles and reading as well as swimming. The pool was nice and refreshing, not with a spectacular view over the Gulf of Thailand, but still pleasant. The pool staff set up our sun lounge and umbrella, gave us a cold bottle of water and a lemon shot drink each.

      Back to the room resting and watching TV before going out to dinner.

       Now for dinner, it was provided by the Hotel Club we are in, We could select a tour of the area or a few different places to eat or drink. We selected the Thai dinner at the Spice Market in our Hotel. I am glad we did, Dinner was sensational, so much food.

      Day 15

      Relaxing

      The morning was a slow start, another yummy breakfast and a walk around the courtyard of the Hotel. It is lovely in the courtyard very pretty a shame about the 1 person smoking a cigar you could smell it everywhere.

      John took the washing to the Thai laundry before breakfast and has now gone to collect. Last washing on this trip.

      The remainder of the day is poolside, reading, doing puzzles and turning crispy.

      At 4.00pm we meet our Luxury Escapes Tour guide in the lobby so we can meet the other travellers in our group and be given the full details of the next 12 days.

      I am guessing no more relaxing as we will be on a strict timeline.      Read more

      Day 4

      What wat?

      We spent our last two days in Bangkok, until we fly to Krabi, more relaxed. We've gone to Sea life, an aquarium all under ground! What we enjoyed the most was seeing the feeding of some of the animals there. Sea life is part of a shopping mall so we also had the opportunity to try new food at the shopping mall. Delicious food, but still need to work on the 'no spicy' order 🌶️🥲
      We've also discovered a bit more the neighborhood where we're staying and saw a few more Wat. Less touristy but still spotless and beautiful. They are a nice bubble of zen in the middle of the city!

      On a passé nos deux derniers jours à Bangkok, avant notre vol pour Krabi, plus relax. On est allé à Sea life, un aquarium sous terre! Ce qu'on a préféré c'était le moment où il nourrissaient certains des animaux. Sea life fait parti d'un shopping center et on a pu tester de nouveaux mets! C'est toujours délicieux mais il faut qu'on travaille notre commande pour rajouter un 'no spicy' à la fin! 🌶️🥲
      On s'est aussi balader dans la quartier où nous dormons et avons découvert d'autres Wat moins touristique que ceux du premier jour. C'est fou le nombre de Wat un peu cachés partout. Ils offrent une bulle de zen au milieu de la ville, ce qui est toujours la bienvenue !      Read more

      Bangkok Tag 31 - 3

      Angepaßt an den Versammlungsort 5Sterne-Hotel war das Essen zwar von guter Qualität und schmackhaft, jedoch im Großen und Ganzen sehr übersichtlich, was die Portionierung betraf...... 😳😳

      Sintemalen noch nachträglich Fragen zu den ausgetauschten bzw. überreichten Dingen auftauchten, habe ich den erhaltenen Clubwimpel und die gerahmte Dankesurkunde zusätzlich fotografisch dokumentiert.      Read more

      Leaving Bankgok

      We had a great time in Bangkok staying at Anantara Siam. Relaing around the pool and reading was lovely.

      Today the busy part if our holiday begins. Every day we have at least 2 activities and most days hours in buses moving us between locations.Read more

      Erawan Schrein

      Dieser Schrein wurde 1956 erbaut. Warum? Weil hier das Erawan Hotel gebaut werden sollte, aber von lauter Unglücken überschattet wurde (verletzte Bauarbeiter und sogar ein gesunkenes Schiff, das Marmor liefern sollte). Erawan bezeichnet die Elefanteneskorte Indras aus der Hindu Mythologie. Ein Priester schlug somit vor, dass man bei dem Namen einen Passagier bräuchte, welcher der Gott Brahma sein sollte. Nach dem Bau dieses Schreins Riss die Unglücksserie ab. Auch wenn das Hotel schon lange nicht mehr steht, bleibt der Schrein eine wichtig Pilgerstätte.Read more

      Day 10

      Walking under the BTS line

      Yesterday was awesome and exhausting. Typical me, I tried to see everything in the same day. The temples were amazing and seemed to be everywhere. I met up with a hasher buddy "Bimbo" for dinner and drinks (selfie), who helped me find a great little hotel right in the heart of Sukhumvit,the expat and happening spot in the city. It was nice to catch up with him.

      I went to the same place for a wonderful, proper English breakfast: black pudding, beans, grilled to-mah-to, rashers, two eggs...the works. And a Bloody Mary, of course.

      Now, I'm trapsing (well, that's what it feels like when you don't have to be anywhere in particular) down the main drag towards the Hard Rock Cafe. Later, I'm meeting with soon-to-be old friends for the Wednesday Hash. I expect it and the On After will be a great way to wrap up a lazy day.

      P.S.: Forgot to say. The guy in the orange vest under the umbrella covering the scooters? That's a taxi stand. Yes, on the scooters. Wild!      Read more

      Bangkok - Erawan Schrein

      Erawan Schrein- vielleicht klingelt es bei diesem Namen bei manchem in den Ohren?
      Das war die Stelle in Bangkok, wo letztes Jahr im August ein Anschlag mit 20 Toten verübt wurde.
      Jetzt, ein paar Monate später erinnert nichts mehr daran. Nun, vielleicht steht irgendwo auf Thai etwas dazu geschrieben, aber wenn, dann nicht besonders offensichtlich.
      Der Schrein ist genauso belebt und wuselig, wie ich ihn 2011 schon einmal erlebt habe. Zugeräuchert von den tausenden Räucherstäbchen, geschmückt mit unzähligen Blumenketten und voller gläubiger Menschen (und ein paar Touristen).
      Die Menschen stehen Schlange, um unterstützt von den Tänzerinnen, die sie "buchen" und vor denen sie sich hinknien, den hinduistischen Gott Brahma um einen (größeren) Gefallen zu bitten. Für kleinere Gefallen gibt es Blumenketten, Kokosnüsse, Elefantenfiguren etc.
      Ein Auszug aus Wikipedia:
      ""Mittellose Bittsteller bringen dem Gott lediglich einen Wai (thailändischer Gruß oder Ehrerbietung, indem beide Handinnenflächen aneinandergelegt und vor das Gesicht oder die Brust gehalten werden) dar. Die Bitte an den Gott sollte mit einer bestimmten festgelegten Formel geschehen, deren Übersetzung etwa wie folgt lautet: „Ich bringe dem Gott Brahma, dem Herrn des Himmels, dieses Opfer dar. Möge er glücklich sein, möge er in seiner unendlichen Güte auch mich glücklich machen. Möge er mich mit Fortschritt und Wohlstand segnen. Möge er mir ein langes Leben geben…“ Anschließend kann der individuelle Wunsch geäußert werden.""
