      London Day 3- Brighton

      August 19, 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Wowowowoow what an awesome dayy!! I’d organized to meet with Amber and Nieve who were the two girls that’s I’d met in Corfu, Greece. They live a bit far out from London itself, so we decided to meet in Brighton which is about an hour’s train ride from London, and is where Amber goes to college! The train was packed and I had to stand the whole time unfortunately. But we met at the train station, and then headed out into the main town area. The lanes were littered with vintage shops, and I did a fair amount of shopping. After looking in a few stores, we were decidedly famished and decided to get some sushi for lunch! We went to a placed called Yo! and they had conveyor belt sushi (but the food that we got wasn’t even served to us on the conveyor belt 🤔). I got a little chicken katsu sandwich and little spicy salmon boats. After our munch, we went to Snoopers Paradise which is this massive antique vintage store that had probably everything and anything that you could think of. It really was an antique paradise. Two floors of the wildest garage sale u could think of. We stayed in there for a long while exploring the items and playing around. After that, we decided to get our ears pierced 😋 i was really nervous but it was over and done with super fast! I was originally wanting to get a tattoo to commemorate this trip and adventure, but I’m too indecisive so this piercing will do. After that, we went to get a little sweet treat at a bakery- warmed up banana bread with butter- yummy! We went down the lanes some more and went into more vintage stores- I was on the hunt for a midi denim skirt but couldn’t find any ;-( we then walked over to the pier which had an arcade and a lovely view of the beach. We grabbed some fish n’ chips- a British staple, for dinner, and then went down by the water to see the pretty pink sky. After, we headed back to the train station, where a random man bought me some Yum Yums which is like this donut thing that Amber and Nieve said that I should try. It was yum yummy! And then… we said a very difficult goodbye. Goodbyes really hit different when you don’t know when you’ll see them again. It was tearful and I was very sad, but of course I was endlessly grateful that I had to chance to reconnect with them here in England. I know they’re reading this (and have been waiting for this post) so I want to say, thank you so much for the time that we spent together and I know that I’ll see you both again one day 🫶🏻💗🤍🩷Read more

      Brighton Stories

      September 15, 2022 in England ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Well, Canterbury was lively and exciting. Brighton is the same times ten, bigger, more cosmopolitan, more broad-minded.

We arrived by train, walked down to our accommodation (third floor, no lift) and headed down to the sea-front and the Brighton Palace Pier.

Being late on a damp, Tuesday afternoon, it was quiet, but all the elements of the British seaside were there - fried food, slot machines, drunks, young people being annoying. It was great, and the views out to the English Channel and up to the ruin of the long-destroyed West Pier were fabulous.

The following morning we moved from our room (third floor, no lift, bathroom door fallen off its hinges) and into a lower altitude one, with profuse apologies from the landlady.

Then we walked in light rain down to the Royal Pavilion.

Prince George, then Prince Regent George, then King George IV, then unpopular fat gouty bastard King George IV, built the pavilion as his party house, and spared no expense in doing so. We were wowed by the Banquet Room, moved by the Music Room, fascinated by the Royal Apartments, all of them beautifully restored and furnished and scattered with helpful and knowledgeable guides.

We walked around The Lanes, full of quirky shops and restaurants, then back to the seafront for another stroll, this time on the shingles of Brighton Beach. As a beach-building material, shingle is probably not going to take over from sand any time soon, but it does explain the poor injury record of the Brighton beach volleyball team.

One of the real highlights of Brighton was sitting outside the Dorset Hotel, drinks in hand, watching the passing parade of some of the most varied fashion choices you would ever see. It is an amazingly vibrant, tolerant and, from our brief observations, happy place.

      Kirmes und Sturm in Brighton

      July 25, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Also All- in Bändchen kaufen und los gehts.

      Two relaxing days in Brighton

      April 27, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

I spent the previous two days in Brighton and took it slow. I explored Brighton and I walked through the Lanes and North Laine, streets with many cute cafes, restaurants, and stores. Such as jewelry stores and second-hand shops.

I visited the Brighton Museum where I learned a lot about other topics. Exhibited were furniture, and art, there was a room about the ancestors who lived in this area many years ago, but also a part about Brightons' own history, such as the Brighton Pier or the LGBTQI+ movement in this city:

In the 5th century, the Anglos-Saxons formed the kingdom Sussex which Brighton was a part of too. Brighton grew to a fisher and farmer city, the fisher lived along the shore and the farmers on a cliff. In 1514, the French burned the little town of Brighton. Which wasn’t a hard task due to most of the buildings being out of wood, it was soon rebuilt though.

Fast forward to the 20th century, when the Pavilion was used as a hospital for Indian soldiers during world war I. Because it was an imitation of an Indian place.

Brighton has recorded LGBTQI+ history in the city since the 19th century. Many men were initially drawn to Brighton by the enormous numbers of soldiers garrisoned in the town during the Napoleonic Wars. Evidence suggests that a floating population and good transport links with London helped its reputation as a place for the LGBT community. By the 1930s, Brighton started to flourish as a gay destination and many gay and lesbian pubs started to establish themselves. During the Second World War, Brighton was filled with soldiers. Women and men in the forces who were away from home meeting other lesbians and gay people for the first time in their lives also heard about Brighton and its special pleasures and helped turn it into a gay destination in the post-war years.

I also enjoyed the beach, although it was pretty windy. I sat and read, listened to a podcast or music, and jogged along the promenade.

      Brighton

      April 28, 2018 in England ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Buchläden sind schon was tolles.

      March 12, 2016 in England ⋅ 🌫 6 °C

Route: Oxford Circus, Regent Street, New Bond Street, Zugfahrt nach Brighton!

Man sieht keinen Horizont. Read more
