Karibikstrände und Land's End

Diesmal unternahmen wir einen Tagesausflug zum westlichsten Punkt Großbritanniens, dem Land's End. Da es zu einfach wäre direkt hinzufahren, stellten wir das Auto nördlich davon ab und liefen mal wieder auf dem South West Coast Path von dem riesigen Sandstrand bei Sennen, über Klippen und vorbei an einem Schiffswrack zum Land's End Aussichtspunkt. Wir ließen die Blicke in Richtung Irland und den USA 😀 schweifen und traten anschließend den Weg zurück an, wo wir uns im Ort mit einem Krabben-Burger, einem Lachs-Sandwich und einem heißbegehrten Eis belohnten.
Nach einer kurzen Fahrt erreichten wir dann auch schon Porthcurno, zu dessen Strand wir über steile Treppen und wunderbaren Aussichten gelangten. Nach Baden, Wellengucken und mehreren Umzügen mit der Decke wegen der einsetzenden Flut, fuhren wir dann mit dem übermüdeten Emilian zurück nach Hayle.Read more

Mit Britannien am Ende

Land‘s End. Tolle Landschaft + freundliche Menschen. Aber auch am Ende der Geduld mit der überaus komplizierten Art in UK zu reisen. Ohne Reservierung kommt man hier spontan nicht durch. Alles sehr eng und immer gegen den Uhrzeigersinn. Ein schönes Symbol dafür haben wir heute in der wunderschönen Cornwall-Landschaft gefunden: das „Mên-an-Tol“. Ein ca. 4000 Jahre altes mystisches Steinsymbol mit einem eigenen speziellen Zauber.
In eigener Sache:
Wir haben unseren Plan, auch noch in Irland durch den Sprühregen auf der falschen Straßenseite zu fahren heute gecancelt. Wir sehnen uns nach 2 Monaten im kühlen Norden unterwegs jetzt auch langsam mal nach Sommersonne und etwas wärmeren Meerwasser. (by the way: der heißeste Tag unserer Reise war der 19.6. in Kiel mit 26‘C...)
Jetzt schnappen wir uns noch schnell einen englischen Meeresmaler, dann geht es südwärts! ☀️

Land's End. Great landscape + friendly people. But also at the end of patience with the extremely complicated way to travel in UK. Without a reservation you can't get through spontaneously. Everything very narrow and always counterclockwise. Today we found a beautiful symbol for this in the beautiful Cornwall landscape: the "Mên-an-Tol". A 4000 year old mystical stone symbol with its own special magic.
On our own behalf:
We have cancelled our plan to drive also still in Ireland by the spray rain on the wrong street side today. We long after 2 months in the cool north on the way now also slowly times for summer sun and somewhat warmer sea water.
Now we quickly grab an English sea painter, then we head south! ☀️Read more

From Lizard To Lands End

A bit of a gray day today which curtailed our plans a bit.

We started with lunch (pasty of course!) at Mousehole (Mousal) with the main road weaving down tiny lanes between the houses.

Then on to Minac Theatre, altho it was drizzling a bit and you got zero view of a the theatre unless you had prebooked tickets (surprise surprise we didn't!). The beaches in the coves were gorgeous though and we had a nice walk along the cliffs.

We were going to give Lands End a miss but we were only 4 miles away so it seemed silly to. It is a bit tacky now but glad we got our matching photo from our Scotland trip.

We spent the evening in a nice pub, and a quiet night in their car park.Read more

Nach den südlichsten Punkt Englands 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ging es nun westlichsten Punkt auf dem Festland. Land's End. Das Wetter wurde nun auch besser und sogar die Sonne ⛅ zeigte sich. Was für ein Unterschied zwischen den Lizzard Point vom Morgen zum Land's End jetzt. Land's End erinnert eher an ein Vergnügungsort als an ein wichtiger geografischer Ort. Es hat Livemusik 🎤, Minigolf 🏌️, Verpflegung aller Art 🍽️ und vieles mehr. Hier könnte man sich einen ganzen Tag verweilen. Dabei gerät die schöne Natur fast in Vergessenheit. Wir probierten typisch englische Erdbeeren 🍓 mit Cottlet Cream. Am Abend ging es in St. Ives wieder ins Dorf, an den Hafen. Dort habe ich den Cornwall-Gin Tarquin's 🍸 probiert. Am Hafen herrschte dieses Mal gerade vollkommene Ebbe. Ich muss sagen, dass das Phänomen Ebbe und Flut uns noch nie so beeindruckt hat wie hier. Schlussendlich sind es Differenzen bis zu 5m die den Alltag der Bewohner beeinflusst. Morgen geht es aber wieder weg vom schönen Cornwall Richtung Norden ⬆️.Read more

Lands End

No visit to Cornwall is complete without going to Lands End. It is a little more commercial than when I went as a ten year old but I managed to have a photo taken in the same spot as an old family one we have. I found out from the signpost photographer that I was 12506 miles from home! It was a very chilly spot with wind blowing harder than a Wellington southerly and I was grateful for the layer of merino under my jacket. The rugged Cornish coast was a treat to see despite the cold.

A warm lunch was in order and my Uncle Nick had messaged me from Perth to tell me the best place to get one. He was spot on and the pasty from Philps was close to one my nana used to make.Read more

Land's End, England

The day started out with rain and wind, not looking good for our trip to Land's End, the furtherest village South in England. After 2 hrs 45 mins driving we arrived at Land's End to blue skies but very windy. How lucky we were. Had a great time walking along the cliff edges trying not to get blown away. Surprised at the photos we did get considering the wind and sea mist.
We drove back along the coastline along some very narrow roads lined with rock walls covered in blackberries, hardly room for one car let alone passing room and then a double decker bus is heading towards you. What the ..... Finally we arrived at St Ives. We drove through the town centre taking turns in streets that had signs stating for small vehicles and motor bikes only. Again I found my way going up streets that look like dead ends only to have a car turn into the street and hope to pass me. Some laughs had at the impossible situations we ended up in, thankfully we made it through. I did a quick run down the many steps for photos of St Ives at low tide. The tide retreats so much that the entire harbour is high and dry. Would love to spend more time wandering along the coastline and taking some time out in St Ives. Maybe next visit.Read more

Views from Lands End across to amazing rock formations and the Sicily Islands, 45 km off the coast.
A swim in Porthcurno Bay,, with Brit, then ‘A Swell Party’ at the Minack Theatre. Dolphins swimming in the background.
The Minack Theatre is Cornwall's world famous open-air theatre, carved into the granite cliff and set in glorious gardens overlooking the spectacular panorama of Porthcurno Bay.
