New Mexico was an anticipated stop for some of us! The history, the scenery and the Mexican food; what's not to be excited about?!? We stayed at Santa Fe Skies RV park which has a vibe that was true to the city. There were art installations and sculptures around the park.
Our first day in Santa Fe was the best weather day in the forecast so we headed into the city to check out the sites. We started our adventures walking up Canyon Road which is the heart of the art galleries in the city. A history road with eclectic sculptures on every corner. This road leads to the historic Santa Fe Plaza which hosted a Day of the Dead celebration. We stayed for a bit and checked out the sites, checked out the decorations and Willow did a craft. We needed to fill in sometime before the evening festivities started. We walked for a bit to a railway park where the kids could play at the park and we could figure out where to eat for dinner. We headed back into the city and decided on a Mexican restaurant, Tomasita's. The food and drinks were excellent and the vibe was authentic! After dinner we headed back to the plaza to check out outdoor screening of Coco, we decided to skip the candlelight processional as we had a bit of a walk to the truck and everyone was getting tired!
The next day we were all pretty excited to go check out the ancient Pueblo cliff dwellings. We set off to Bandelier National Monument which was about an hour from the campground. We were greeted with probably one of the coolest visitor centers we've ever seen! A Spanish style building with a beautiful courtyard and a great museum. We learned about the Pueblo people and what life was like for them while the cliffs were inhabited. We took the loop trail up to the dwellings to check out what life was like. We got to climb a ladder to see what a cliff home was like! There was also lots of Petroglyphs to check out along the way. The main Alcove house was closed due to a flood so a ranger recommended another site up the road that had more ladders to climb! The kids were bouncing with excitement! This hike didn't disappoint! A pretty easy climb with ladders and single track trails carved into the rocks to the top of the Mesa. There were plenty of dwellings and Petroglyphs along the way!
Our last day was a bit of a chill one, literally! We woke up with a fresh dusting of snow! The kids were delighted to get out and make a snowman! They crafted a perfect snowman with a carrot nose, olive eyes and a Bearcat toque! Hopefully this will be our last snow fall until we get back to Canada!Read more
