      SF, Fishermens Wharf

      Alles hat mindestens 2 Seiten, die Aussicht von unserem Übernachtungsplatz war unbeschreiblich, dafür war es nicht die leiseste Nacht. Aber wie gesagt…. die Aussicht.

      Die war auch heute Morgen da, kein Nebel, obwohl San Fransisco ja auch die Fog-Town genannt wird.

      Es geht als erstes nach Fisherman’s Wharf, ein Hafenviertel und eines der großen Touristenmagneten der Stadt. An jeder Ecke sind Souvenirgeschäfte und Straßenstände zu finden, die Krabbensuppe mit Muscheln in einer Sauerteigschüssel servieren.

      Es ist viel los hier, aber wir entdecken eine leckere Bäckerei und natürlich das Hard Rock Cafe.      Read more

      San Francisco 1. Eindruck

      Angekommen, Auto abgegeben und erstmal echt erschrocken, im Bereich Downtown ähnlich wie in LA reich und arm ziemlich nah beieinander. Zelte mitten auf dem Gehweg aufgeschlagen, sodass man teilweise auf der Straße laufen muss.

      Fahrradfahren ist hier nicht zu empfehlen. Zum einen wegen den Bergen mitten in der Stadt. Zum anderen wegen dem Verkehr und den Verkehrsregeln. 4 spurige Einbahnstraßen in der Innenstadt. Kein rechts vor links, sondern wer zuerst an die Kreuzung kommt fährt zuerst :D

      Straßen sind hier so steil, dass sogar die Busse an Kabeln befestigt sind zur Unterstützung 😃

      Alcatraz and Aquarium

      February 12 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

      Took the F Historic Streetcar after breakfast but sadly the Exploratorium museum was closed, so we walked back to the Pier to do the Alcatraz tour. Just managed to hop on the next boat. Fog cleared a bit so we could start to see the Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge and Treasure Island.
      Rosie did great on the audio tour around the cells at Alcatraz which meant we could actually listen to it - creepy but interesting to hear about how the prisoners lived.
      Another delicious crab chowder sourdough bowl from Boudins.
      Matt and Rosie went to the aquarium in the afternoon - Rosie loved the robot guide and the otters.
      Back at the hotel Poppy did one of her first laughs - very cute! And this morning she rolled from her front to her back.
      Lovely dinner at Scomas where they catch the fish and seafood they serve. The restaurant is next to all the fishing boats so the area is low key but lots of very fancy cars parked outside!
      Last night in San Francisco tonight. We've loved the positive vibes, mix of cultures, the tasty seafood, scent of eucalyptus on our runs and how many fun things are going on here. Thumbs up for San Fran 👍      Read more

      First two days in San Francisco

      We are in love with San Francisco!
      After dropping the car of on Saturday, we took the BART train downtown. Our Hostel is located in a very nice area on the corner of Taylor and Bush Street. The Hostel is good: clean, quiet, alright kitchen and has a great location. We can easily walk to a cable car stop and towards Fisherman’s Wharf or the ferry Terminal - we’ll if you like walking up and down with some exercise 😅.
      On the first day we took the cable car to Fisherman’s Wharf. The Ride was so much fun! Loud and just different - kinda old school 🤣. Getting of at the Wharf we walked around, saw several US Military boats, spotted Alcatraz Island 🤩 and visited Pier 39. Besides food and shops, the pier offers a nice information center about sea lions and also a lovely view of a sea lions “island” - they relax directly next to the pier 🤩. Such smelly funny cuties!!!
      Today we just walked around, first towards Union Square, then to a mall (Sophie needed some new sneaker - mine are broken) before we went to the salesforce tower and park. A nice rooftop park in the middle of SF. Another walk to the ferry terminal and we were ready to walk all the way back to the hostel. What exciting two first days 🥰. Tomorrow we’re gonna start biking SF🚴🏼‍♀️.

      Wir sind verliebt in San Francisco!
      Nachdem wir den Wagen am Samstag abgegeben hatten, nahmen wir den BART-Train in die Innenstadt. Unser Hostel befindet sich in einer sehr schönen Gegend an der Ecke Taylor und Bush Street. Das Hostel ist gut: sauber, ruhig, soweit gute Küche und besonders hat es eine tolle Lage. Wir können leicht zu Fuß zu einer Cablecar Haltestelle und in Richtung Fisherman's Wharf oder zum Fährterminal laufen - vorausgesetzt, dass man gerne mit workout auf und ab geht😅.
      Am ersten Tag fuhren wir mit dem Cable Car zum Fisherman's Wharf. Die Ride hat so viel Spaß gemacht! Laut und einfach anders - irgendwie Old School 🤣. Als wir am Pier ankamen, gingen wir herum, sahen mehrere US-Militärboote, entdeckten Alcatraz Island 🤩 und besuchten Pier 39. Neben Essen und Geschäften bietet der Pier ein schönes Informationszentrum über Seelöwen und auch einen schönen Blick auf eine Seelöweninsel - sie entspannen sich direkt neben dem Pier 🤩. So stinkende, lustige, süße Dinger .
      Heute sind wir einfach nur herumgelaufen, zuerst zum Union Square, dann in ein Einkaufszentrum (Sophie brauchte einen neuen Sneaker denn meine sind kaputt😢). Danach ging es zum Salesforce Tower und Park. Ein schöner Park auf dem Dach inmitten der Stadt von SF. Ein weiterer Spaziergang zum Fährterminal und wir waren bereit, den ganzen Weg zurück zum Hostel zu gehen. Was für aufregende zwei erste Tage 🥰. Morgen werden wir anfangen zu radeln SF🚴🏼‍♀️.       Cablecar und Fishermans Wharf

      Nach einem Frühstück im Innenhof des Hotels bei sommerlichen Temperaturen, bin ich Richtung Fisherman's Wharf gegangen, zur Cablecar- Station. Mit einem Tagesticket ausgestattet ging es dann los. Das Fotografieren ist nicht einfach,da es durchaus gewünscht ist,auf dem Trittbrett mitzufahren 😅. Das Stückchen Lombardstraße bin ich gelaufen,echt beeindruckend! Am Nachmittag war ich auf vergeblicher Suche nach Briefmarken, die Post muss also warten 🤣. In Vancouver Wollmütze, hier die sommerlichen Temperaturen, völlig erledigt musste ich erst einmal unter sie Dusche hüpfen 😊Read more

      Erster Morgen in Frisco. Das Wetter ist gut, Dank Jetlag schon früh unterwegs. Einige Eindrücke hab ich gepostet - es waren auch spezielle dabei😉
      Vor unserem Hotel parkte noch die SF Firefighters.

      Alcatraz (bucket list stuff)

      Not up as early as intended today, as the travel catches up with us a bit, down to breakfast which is pleasant enough for a buffet, then we are out to pick up our Alcatraz and hop on/off bus tickets, we are located 3.20 pm for departure.
      We have a little wander on to pier 39 and watch the sea lions in the bay, we decide to jump on the bus to union square, into Macy’s for a bit of shopping, before mooching around a few more shops. Then it’s refreshment time, Joe has found a bar Sam’s cable car lounge we meet him and Rhys there. Have a half pint each, Taity clocks whilst vaping that beer is $8.50 during happy hour ( we aren’t in happy hour) we decide to check out the tab and are “gobsmacked at the $33 bill for 2 halves, safe to say that there is some chuntering about the price all together $100 for 6 halves wow.
      We return to the bus to get back to our departure point for Alcatraz but the bus takes 2 hrs to get back and we only have 1 hr 30, we decide to walk the 35 mins back via another bar this time we make sure of the prices up front (half the price of the last gaff)
      We arrive at departure point early, so the lads get a “Glizzy” (hotdog) then into the queue for Alcatraz. Ferry over to Alcatraz and then we are at “The Rock” lots of walking but the cell block and stories surrounding it do not disappoint., I’ve always wanted to visit Alcatraz after watching a documentary about it years ago, bucket list item ticked, last ferry back at 6.30 pm. We wander back to the hotel for a freshen up, Joe decides to take a scooter back.
      The lads go out before, us, Janet and I visit the Taits room for a beer, it’s at this point El Don realises that he had brought bangers in his luggage, well man bag, which he had with him on the plane, how he didn’t get pulled at security is a mystery, we meet the lads in a bar and get a recommendation for a pizza place, it’s a good recommendation, Tony’s Pizzeria for some proper Pizza. Once we’ve filled our boots the lads leave us for another bar and we wander back to the hotel, via the 7 11 for a six pack (we’re such cheapskates)
      Sit for a beer outside we are all knackered after our epic day and over 10 miles of walking. We retire around 11.30. The lads aren’t far behind us, they blame too much food.      Read more
