    San Francisco 1. Eindruck

    September 30, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Big Bus Tour, Fishermans Wharf, CA

    July 10, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

The Lombard Inn was a good choice for its central location, 25 minutes walk to Fishermans Wharf and similar to the down town area, we did have a scare when on the first night the shower was ice cold with the same happening the next morning. They got the boiler fixed and it has been all good since then reducing the room rate for one day $50.00.
Last time we were here we used the Big Bus Hop on and Hop off service, we did the same this time buying the deluxe package which gave us 48 hours and the night tour and the Sausalito tour as well. We reacquainted ourselves with the cities colourful past, and its different sectors. We took advantage of the Sausalito tour today the wealthiest part of SF, rents are up around $17,000 per month. Robin Williams lived just down the road at Tiberon, and everyone that we spoke to or heard from just gushed about the man he was and what he did for the homeless. San Francisco is the poorer for his loss.
We returned to the North point of the Goldengate Bridge, Carl and Paola continued to the southside where they walked the bridge whilst Noela and I went back to Fisherman’s Wharf where we listened and watched the buskers, watched the seals on pier 39, and generally walked and took in the sights.
We caught up with Carl and Paola at 5.45PM to do the Big Bus night tour over the Bay Bridge and other parts. We had an awesome guide Blake Klemett who absolutely had us entertained all trip. By the time we got off the bus it was freezing with the coastal wind coming in.
We can thoroughly recommend the Big Bus tour service.

First two days in San Francisco

    August 11, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

    🇺🇸
We are in love with San Francisco!
After dropping the car of on Saturday, we took the BART train downtown. Our Hostel is located in a very nice area on the corner of Taylor and Bush Street. The Hostel is good: clean, quiet, alright kitchen and has a great location. We can easily walk to a cable car stop and towards Fisherman’s Wharf or the ferry Terminal - we’ll if you like walking up and down with some exercise 😅.
On the first day we took the cable car to Fisherman’s Wharf. The Ride was so much fun! Loud and just different - kinda old school 🤣. Getting of at the Wharf we walked around, saw several US Military boats, spotted Alcatraz Island 🤩 and visited Pier 39. Besides food and shops, the pier offers a nice information center about sea lions and also a lovely view of a sea lions “island” - they relax directly next to the pier 🤩. Such smelly funny cuties!!!
Today we just walked around, first towards Union Square, then to a mall (Sophie needed some new sneaker - mine are broken) before we went to the salesforce tower and park. A nice rooftop park in the middle of SF. Another walk to the ferry terminal and we were ready to walk all the way back to the hostel. What exciting two first days 🥰. Tomorrow we’re gonna start biking SF🚴🏼‍♀️.

    🇩🇪
Laut und einfach anders - irgendwie Old School 🤣. So stinkende, lustige, süße Dinger .
Was für aufregende zwei erste Tage 🥰. Morgen werden wir anfangen zu radeln SF🚴🏼‍♀️.

    "Under the Bridge" - Tour

    November 17, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

    Cycling

    July 22, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

    Cycling

Today we went cycling 🚵 around Golden Gate Park. But before that, we went to Palace Of Fine Arts and we saw some swans and birds in the pond. It was pretty and Mammy took loads of photos. When Daddy drove to golden gate park. Conor had a small bike, I had a kids medium bike, Daddy had a big adult bike and Mammy had a medium adult bike. We went Cycling on the bike path and we stopped for lunch. Me and Conor had Jumbo beef hotdog, it was delicious 😋!! Mine was plain and Conor added ketchup. Then on the way back, I stood up on my bike 🚴 and had 1 hand holding on, and it was super cool. Then I sat down and had 1 hand on the bike and suddently I crashed into the cone people were going to use for the marathon tomorrow! If you look at it, there is 1 odd cone. One has fallen down. 🙊 The bikes seat wasn't comfy and then my hands started to hurt. Then, I realised that we cycled for 2 hours such a good excercise!Read more

Day 8 flight to San Francisco

    January 24, 2020 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Today we had breakfast with Lance and Bella and it was lovely to see them so happy together before they fly off to their honeymoon in Hawai tomorrow.

We then headed to the airport for our flight to San Francisco.

The flight was only an hour or so and we reached SF and caught the sky train to the rental car company to get another 12 seater bus as Jeremy enjoys driving us all around!
We checked into the Holiday Inn at Fisherman’s Wharf and then headed straight down to Fisherman’s Wharf to get some of their famous chowder. We looked around and Phoebe and the kids had disappeared. They preferred to go to In N Out Burger!

Darren and I and Dad and Ruth ended up at a seafood restaurant for dinner and had crab chowder in a bread bowl and a huge plate of crab claws.

Jem and Rose and the kids headed off to a basketball game they had booked tickets for.

We got our first glimpse of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge covered in fog. Tomorrow we go to Alcatraz.

    A Reunion

    November 20, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

We'd planned to go back into San Francisco for the morning, but with the smoke overshadowing everything and being satisfied with what we'd seen yesterday, we decided to just hang around the hotel until checkout at 12pm. Instead we used that time to book our next trip - Sri Lanka and India in January/February 2019! Watch this space.

So we checked out, drove up into San Fran and then across the Bay Bridge to Oakland. First stop was a random Trader Joe's supermarket where we had lunch (cheap wraps and salads), then back to the car heading a bit further to east to Walnut Creek.

Walnut Creek is where my cousin Ian lives with his girlfriend Tracey. I was really excited to see them both, as I'd never met Tracey and it had been nearly two years since I'd seen Ian. And coincidentally, his mum/my aunt was also in town after a trip to Mexico, so we had a nice little family reunion! Ian seems very settled in his life in California, working in the tech field while Tracey does something in the finance industry in San Fran.

We had a great afternoon relaxing and catching up, then wandered over to a nearby Italian restaurant for dinner. Tasty food though with enormous American portions - none of us could finish! Wandered off to bed very full and satisfied.
