      Hot springs de l’Utah

      June 5, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

      Page - Bryce - Panguitch

      August 18, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

      May 28, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 7 °C

      Utah!

      July 30, 2020 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 88 °F

We stopped in Salina to feed the giant pink beast, and I got to go outside for a while. My non favorite person keeps insisting on taking pictures of me with the big camera, and it always means I can't jump around like I want to.Read more

      Day 18, Richfield, Utah

      August 24, 2013 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

Day 18 - Once we left the Tiger Run RV park we continued on through the mountains past Vail, the ski resort for the rich and famous, toward Las Vegas.

It didn't take long past Vail to actually be descending again to around 6,500 feet for a lot more of the Rockies. Much of this new area was less rugged mountains and a bit more sedate, although still very different and beautiful.

We decided to stop along the way at various rest stops and viewing areas as the Utah countryside was just incredible. I will make short note here that it is useful for just about nothing, and it really is just an incredibly staggering sight to see with all the strange rock formations. This area is like being on the moon, I believe I haven't seen anything even close to it anywhere else in the world to date. When all this was occurring millions of years ago this must have been a very geographically violent place to have the rock formations that have formed.

We figured we would just drive on and find a destination just a few hours short of Vegas so that the next day we would be into Vegas not long after lunch.

A place that claims to be the capital for southern Utah was a little city called Richfield, around 5,500 feet above sea level, but now very much desert like landscapes with some general grass growing and maybe a little bit of cattle grazing.

We checked into our first KOA campground and I must say, these are very well maintained and this was a beautiful tree lined park with beautiful gardens and play areas for kids. Even a pool table in the laundry to get that well needed stick practice whilst waiting for the laundry to dry, something different.

There was next to no TV reception here so I managed to jimmy up a cable to connect to the site provided cable connection, this gave us some viewing for the night.

Well tomorrow was our second last leg of our journey towards Vegas. Seeing as we had done some extended drive times since leaving Youngstown, which was a day late, we were now actually a day ahead of schedule meaning we would be able to stop two nights in Las Vegas for a good tourist gander.

Looking for forward to the main part of the Utah driving tomorrow.

    • Utah is Absolutely Gorgeous

      May 21, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 61 °F

Leann and I left our decent hotel with a great view after breakfast and a chat with a couple driving an FJ Cruiser. We headed back past Mexican Hat and turned north on Hwy 261.

What a ride! This tiny road turns into hard-packed dirt and gravel for three miles as it twists and winds its way up the side of a cliff. But the views! You overlook Valley of the Gods and Monument Valley. Completely worth the effort to get up there. Also, once you're at the top, there is another unpaved road on your left that takes you to Muley Point. Even more majestic views!

Getting back on the paved Hwy 261 to head north, I started slowing down because of all the poop on the road. Open range cows were in the area, and with all the fresh patties, I figured we'd see them sooner or later. We did. Unfortunately, Leann and I have polar opposite driving techniques when a road hazard presents itself, so when we reached Hwy 95, she took off on her own.

I made my way to Natural Bridges National Monument and did the scenic drive loop. I was cutting it close on gas--I was 50 miles into my tank with at least 95 to go before the next gas station--but I decided that taking 10-mile loop would be worth running out of gas later. Luckily, I reached Hanksville with a little to spare.

The drive up Hwy 95 takes you through the stunning Fry Canyon, then crosses the Colorado on a beautiful bridge. Just after the bridge, there's an overlook that will make your jaw drop. Just incredible.

Before reaching Hanksville, you also come through part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, which is also magnificent and has many places to pull over, park, and walk around.

Rolling into Hanksville around 13:00, after a much needed fill-up, I had a late lunch at Duke's Slickrock Grill (https://maps.app.goo.gl/LYDvp7vCGKsPT2Cf8), which I found last year. Really good food in a John Wayne theme restaurant, you know, The Duke.

From Hanksville, I took Hwy 24 west to Capitol Reef National Park. This drive is even more spectacular than Hwy 95! And better yet, the scenic drive from the Visitor Center is even better than both of those. This year, however, I didn't take the scenic drive, opting instead to head to Richfield and our hotel.

Unfortunately, if had taken the drive, I would've met back up with Leann, so I made it to Richfield about an hour and a half before her. But with an Arby's next door, I was able to grab dinner while I waited for her.

It was a beautiful day in a gorgeous part of the US.

So long [for now], and thanks for all the fish! ✌️

      I-70 out of Moab

      October 22, 2021 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 61 °F

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Moab, and the weather could not have been better for our visit. Wish we had one more day, because we never spent anytime in the town even though we were parked at an RV location that was well placed for walking on foot to explore. Hope to be back again some day.

Got started pretty early about 8 or 8:30, which is good for us. Quick stop at Starbucks at the grocery store right next to the campground. Normally like going to local shops, but in our RV with the jeep, easier to get into a grocery store parking lot!

This part of I-70 is still scenic, but much more high plateau/ desert (dry) looking than the portion we drove coming into Moab. Left 70 as it starts dropping south and drove 50 heading west into Nevada. Really spent the whole day driving and stopped at the state line.

Our hope was to stay close to Baker, Nevada (state line) and have a brief visit to Great Basin Natl Park. We found this nice cafe/store/casino/motel/RV park right on the state line. Very clean, pretty spartan, but they offered full hook ups, restrooms, showers and laundry room for $28 a night. We were happy to take it! We really like having electives power on these colder nights. The RV heater is sort of noisy compared to our portable oil heater!
