    Elmwood zoo

    June 12, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Today was a perfect relaxing day. We got up and had a lazy morning and then when Jack and Jen came home we made our way to the little Elmwood Zoo not far from their house. Jack and Jen have been members for years and have seen it grow over the years.

The zoo was definetly little and local but it was so cute and had mostly animals that were endangered or critical. The kids were spoiled by Jack and Jen as they fed the farm animals, the bison and the parrot and birds.

After the zoo we played at the pool and has an amazing rib and salmon dinner that our hosts has cooked for us.

    Nothing but a great day.

    Day 48 - Mallrats

    October 25, 2016 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 36 °F

That's correct, the only photo of today is that of a shopping mall.

We went to the largest shopping mall in the US with over 400 shops. It is called the King of Prussia and yes, it's huge. That was it, that was all we managed today. And watching lots of TV and lounging about.

    Song of the Day:
Survivor - Eye of the Tiger (was not used for yesterday's post and we drew a blank for today)

    Plains Park Disc Golf

    June 17, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 88 °F

This was a really tough little 9 hole course. The holes aren't super long, but they are quite tight in the woods. Multiple holes are of the variety that you just have to throw and hope.

Tee pads are just bare dirt, and the brush thankfully isn't too thick. Some mud in spots and lots of flying critters, but no other people playing, so was easy to play a relaxed round.

No birdies for me, but I was more playing "course management" to try and get as many pars as I could.

Brenda struggled at times, but it was quite a bit hotter and throwing full out was nearly impossible.

No really noteworthy shots, but I was happy with some of my drives sneaking through the trees :-)

+2 for 9 holes isn't as good as the Even after 18 from the day befo;-re, but it felt like a good accomplishment :-)

    A day at sea

    May 27 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

We hit the slides right away, before the crowds arrived this morning. The ship has a slide, rafty, water ride that was a blast. Nikki and I went, while Kim waited in line. As soon as we got down, I got in line, and Nikki hooked up with Kim, who was just getting to the front of the line. We repeated several times, until my legs couldn’t take another walk up the tower stairs.

We spent the rest of the day lounging and reading on different decks of the boat; sometimes in the sun and sometimes not. The weather was perfect, and the kids seem to be having a great time. Tomorrow, we are in Cozumel, where me, Kim, Dave, and the girls will be diving for the day. The last time I dove in Cozumel was 1988, and Dave was 16 years old; the same age as his daughter, Zoe. Funny how life works out sometimes.

Old Friends - Visiting Vicky Funari

    August 14, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

You know those friends who you haven’t seen for years and you get together and it is as if no time or gap exists between you? That describes my relationship with Vicky. We were roommates back in 1981 in northern Virginia when I worked for NOW.

She and her partner John are both artists - Vicky is a filmmaker and painter - her Haverford College business card says “scholar”. Her work and reputation has helped establish the new Visual Culture Arts and Media center. The campus is just how I imagine an old east coast college would look like: quaint and well manicured.

I sat (stood) for an early self-portrait she painted. It’s a pretty good representation in likeness and attitude at the time.

She is currently working on a film about a group of women (age 50 to 90) who do water aerobics together. It tells their stories of strength and transition into being older adults. Resonates for me, certainly.

We reminisced some and shared our horror that we are fighting the same fights we did 40 years ago! Mostly though we shared our life stories over the last couple of years and what is on the horizon.

These are the things that have made this trip east so deeply satisfying. I’m getting to know who I am by remembering who I was.

    Next up, DC.
