      Lake Placid

      September 18, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

      Lake Placid, Ironman

      July 23, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Teils in Sonne, teils in heftigem Regen.

Lawlor, Kristen and Mark's son, competes in the Ironman at Lake Placid, New York State, the former Winter Olympics venue. (Fun fact: an orthopedic and prosthesis center has opened right next to the ski jumps of Lake Placid...) 😳 We get up very early, have breakfast on the side of the road while the 2,000 athletes swim 3.8 km. We drink coffee while they bike 180km. And snack when they finally run the marathon (42km). It's very warm with a decent thunderstorm in between. We have a very loud cowbell and make a lot of noise. Lawlor and his buddies Kevin, Brandon and Ben take between 10:22 hours and 15:30 hours. The utmost respect for this unbelievable effort. And that willpower!!! The next day it's back to Bristol, Rhode Island. Partly in the sun, partly in heavy rain.

      Me and my big mouth

      August 17, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

So on the way back from Rocky Falls, we debated what to do next. We passed signs for the Mt. Jo trail, a 'short trail' of 2 miles round trip to the summit and spectacular views and I suggested that'd be a good idea with the sun now out. While it was short, it was short because it went straight up the mountain...and 'trail' was a somewhat loose description of vertical bouldering! Me and my big mouth. However the summit was spectacular and we managed the return route in under 2 hours despite being clearly the least prepared for the climb compared to others at the summit! We returned down the rocky path without breaking anything before returning pathetically weary to the car after five hours of hiking.Read more

      Rocky Falls

      August 17, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

An early Adirondack start to do some hiking, alas the weather was against us on a grizzly damp morning. We perservered and aimed for the 5 mile Rocky Falls hike. The 'rocky' part was spot on, the route being littered with them, but it was a very scenic walk through one trail of the 6 million acres of forest here. The paths were damp and muddy but the end of the trail made it worth it - absolutely stunning waterfalls. Having mis-stepped and already got one foot wet, I had a very enjoyable splodge in the water 😊 As we walked back, the sun broke through the grey sky.Read more

      Tag 4, Ziel: Vermont

      October 9, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

      Lake Placid

      August 16, 2016 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

After Albany, the rain continued with vengeance and as we entered the Adirondacks the temperature dropped below 20 for the first time since we arrived. Driving through the Adirondacks was unbelievable though, and as the rain eased it was warm enough that it rose off the trees, creating a beautiful scenic drive. Sadly the high ropes course we had hoped to go on had sent out their last group by the time we arrived, so we carried on driving reaching over 2000ft above sea level. We spent the evening wandering around mirror lake and enjoying the comforts of our hotel, whilst planning how to make the most of tomorrow...and enjoying a few beers ☺Read more

Day8 The Climb, packing, changing ..

      August 2, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Last evening we enjoyed a tour on Pete’s boat then we had a great meal last evening at Tail O the Pup. Pete and Marian Dimmig our ministry friends joined us.

Mike closed the week with a great devotional on being a mentor and working with a mentor.

The motel was nice and we all had a good nights sleep.

We had breakfast of yogurt, bananas and muffins and we were off riding by 7 am. We rode about 11 miles to the base of White Face Mountain. Filled our water and snacks and we were rolling up the mountain. It is about a 5 mile, 3k foot climb and average incline of 8%

EVERYONE finished the climb including Rob. Rob drives our van as our SAG (support after group) driver. He drove the van to the top and rode down. Then he turned around and rode the whole way to the top. It was a very impressive endeavor.

We hiked up the stone rocks to the peak.
      Then rode down very fast!

We completed the week of riding with no crashes! PTL.

Then we ate quick, changed out of our sweaty cloths and hung up the bikes and packed the trailer. The cold cantaloupe was refreshing.

We left about noon for home. The van is full, the boys and leaders are thankful and tired.

Thanks for all your prayer support. For 100% of the boys and leaders to arrive at the top of white face is a big deal.

We are praising God for a good week.
We hope to arrive home about 9 to 10 pm

FP update 7/25 and 7/26 Lake Placid

FP update 7/25 and 7/26 Lake Placid

Since Michael has been intrigued with the Olympic sport of Curling for a while, we had an opportunity to learn and play in Lake Placid. It was fun and a little harder than we expected. Give those professional Curlers a little more credit 😜

Next day we visited the Olympic Jumping Complex (1980 Winter Olympics). Like we saw in Park City, UT a few years back, the ski jumping into a pool is pretty wild to watch 😎 🎿 When thinking of Lake Placid the Winter Olympics, you can’t help remembering the Miracle on Ice - US Men’s hockey 🏒 team beat the Soviet Union 💪🏻💜 The facility where this took place is where we did the curling.

      Booking it, boats and BBQ!

      August 2, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

It was a very foggy morning, fun watching the mist clear over the lake. The guys were flying today! Their legs may be tired, but are strong as they pushed higher mph averages. We arrived by 11:30 today, the first time we finished before 1! Roger sliced up some juicy watermelon and cantaloupe! We were hoping to arrive early as a friend of LifeCycles-Pete and Marian Dimmig live at Lake Saranac and Pete gave tours in his boat around the lake and allowed the boys to do some swimming. Then we went to the Lake Placid ski jump facility, wow! I’ve got a much greater appreciation for ski jumping now. Finally Pete took us to a BBQ place, tasty! We finished our night with devotions on the topic of iron sharpening iron.
