      Ha Long Bay Vietnam. Morning

      May 24, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 81 °F

About a month ago, I had a toothache and inflammation of my gum. When we were in Mumbai, India, I purchased an antibiotic and after few days I was feeling better and the swelling wend down.
Yesterday the mild toothache came back. I went to the ship doctor, but he would not give me more antibiotics.
I had no choice, but go to a local dentist in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam.
Yesterday was day at sea, so I had time to find dentist not too far from the port, send them a message and got a reply with 9:00am appointment.
The ship was cleared only after 9:00am instead of 8:30am. We took a taxi to the office and without waiting a minute, I was taking by a nice nurse.
The communication was thru translation on the phone.
I had a 3d panoramic x-Ray and she explained to me that the one of the roots of the tooth broke.
The best solution is extraction. I agreed.
I was taken upstairs to a very modern office and immediately three more assistants showed. Also a doctor. The blood pressure was taken and preparation started. Thirty minutes later my tooth was gone. Another 3d x-Ray. All looked good.
We went downstairs and the nurse explained about all medications I have to take. All was labelled and nicely packed.
I gave them my credit card, but for some reason their machine was not working.
After trying multiple times, offered to take money from ATM and pay cash. Unfortunately, there was no ATM close by.
The next thing…..one of the nurses offered me to go with her to the ATM. What I did not realise, we have to ride a motorcycle.
They put a helmet on me, shows me how to get on motorcycles and we went. The ride was not too long, May be 4 blocks.
I did not know how much money i should withdraw, so I took the maximum, which is was 2 millions.
When we came back, the bill was 1 mil 700 thousand. I paid cash, got my medicine and we went outside to get a cab back to the ship. At the terminal, we had ice coffee and ice chocolate and came back on the ship. Then I calculated the charges. The whole thing is…..$71. Hahaha 😝.
Back on the ship I need a little rest before going to a special event in the cave.

      Hang Luon Bucht

      March 9 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Ha Long Bay, Kayaking at Hang Luong

      November 25, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

The standard program also includes a round of kayaking. We paddle around, stop at a cave, go through it and there is a beach, supposedly without the painful jellyfish. On the return trip, one Dubai boy falls into the water in a cinematic way while getting back in the kayak, which creates a great atmosphere. Their mooring at the jetty also causes amusement. Afterwards there are drinks and food on board. The boat practically doesn't rock. Still I woke up every hour - had to look out and enjoy the view.

Halong Bay - One of the 7 world wonders

      February 21 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

What’s the best way to enjoy one of the seven world wonders? In rain and fog obviously!
I was fortunate enough with the weather till that point in time, but on the day where I went to see the accumulations of Island in the Halong Bay, I hadn’t had luck with it.

Halong Bay is home to approximately 1600 limestone islands and islets, scattered across its vast expanse of waters in the Gulf of Tonkin. These islands vary in size, shape, and geological formations, contributing to the bays stunning and diverse landscape. Each island has its own unique features, from lush vegetation covered peaks to hidden caves and secluded beaches, making Halong Bay a truly mesmerizing natural wonder to explore.

      Kajakpaddling

      February 27, 2023 in Vietnam

Read more

      Hang Luon

      September 14, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

      Vịnh Hạ Long

      March 14 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Ha Long Bay feels like the opposite of a “best kept secret. An otherworldly beautiful place that’s incredibly busy. We decided against a two day cruise, opting instead for a fancy single day cruise. Lovely ship with a jacuzzi and good food. Ha Long Bay itself is surreal, limestone island rising from the water in every direction. Had to endure another two caves but a good time overall.Read more

      The wonders of Halong Bay

      February 18, 2017 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

On Saturday we set off on a 2-night trip to iconic Halong Bay. After a 3:30am start to the day (jet lag still plaguing us), we got on a bus to Halong Bay. Once at the dock, we boarded our boat, Imperial Legend, for the rest of the day & night. It was a smallish boat, with about 10 cabin bedrooms on 2 floors, a dining room and a sun deck upstairs - quite homely. We ate lunch on the boat and did some cruising around the bay. We were very lucky with the weather - it is normally cloudy or foggy at this time of year but we had 2 days of clear sunny weather and the views were amazing. Halong Bay is one of those places that you see pictures of in books and think it won't be as good as that in real life - but it really was beautiful, a definite trip highlight. Sorry Mam & Pete - I know you're still gutted that you didn't get to see it last year because of the storm and we feel gutted for you now too... Laura went out kayaking for an hour, then we all went swimming off the boat. The water was pretty cold but lovely once you were in, and very special to be swimming with such fantastic scenery all around. We watched the sunset from the deck - also beautiful. Solana couldn't stay awake long enough for dinner but luckily our cabin was close to the dining room, so she stayed in bed & we were both still able to eat. After dinner we had a go at squid fishing - unsuccessful but enjoyable!Read more

    • Day 82

      Ha Long Bay, Vietnam

      March 17, 2015 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Beeindruckend!Read more
