    Jabiru/Cahills Crossing

    July 1, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Got to Jabiru about 9am...weather overcast... left at 9.30 to go to cahills crossing, apparently when the tide turns the crocs come over the road to catch fish!...well true to form the wannagunna Tribe didn't check the tide times and got there at 10..30 am.waited till bloody 1.30 pm for the tide (on bloody ROCKS AGAIN)
So after waiting in the sun , on a rock, with dust blowing everywhere..we saw one, I repeat 1 croc go over the road...we left very disappointed 😞... went to look at some rock art down the road (apparently the best in NT).. By this time its nearly 2pm..we haven't eaten all day so we r all pretty hungry..apparently it's a small/ easy 700m round loop...(I have those bloody thongs on again)..we get to a spot and guess what the easy track turns to bloody rocks...I deftly turned back and said I'm out see you back at car...(thinking stupidly the Tribe would do the 700 mm loop, but no.. the wannagunnas had to do the lookout... so 45..50 mins later .. they arrived pooped but so happy they had done what they wanted... leaving Rick and I sitting in a car starving!..(by this time Its after 3pm) so with very empty bellies we drove to see Jabiru and maybe get a coffee ànd snack before heading to happy hour and tea! We looked and looked and looked And poor old Jabiru only had a very run down supermarket and a post office..it was like a ghost town.. not even a coffee shop. It's like a ghost town.. very sad... so back to camp for a biccie and cheese.. headed over to happy hour at 4.30.. had a beautiful barramundi for tea...Also went to look at the Ranger uranium mine just outside Jabiru.. bloody awful..how they put that right next to a national park is just awful.. just one extreme to the other...off to Darwin today...

    KAKADU/ YELLOW WATERS

    June 29, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Today's story: goes like this..Miss Charman has her map of Kakadu with all her handwritten notes of where we r going on it...she couldn't find it after our drive yesterday And quizzed us all.. had we taken it, she had it when she was talking to one of us.. so we must have grabbed it..apparently searched her caravan and car inside out.... asked us all again this morning sure one of us had it...we had to stop again and try and find where we were going (no bloody internet in Kakadu!... we all pile back into our cars thinking where is that bloody map..I make a comment to Glenn, its got to be in that bloody car, nek minut Gordon calls on radio to say that he asked kim (miss charman) to check the glovebox, and lo and behold the map has been there the whole time! Now Miss Charman thinks Gordon planted it there to tease her! 😱😱🤪🧐🧐😱😱😤😤Read more

  • Day 45

    Kakadu

    June 28, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

So as we venture into kakadu we had to do another bloody gorge!! (ABG )..true to form the NT puts on its walk this is an easy 2km walk to a plunge pool! Everyone seemed to be in thongs, it must be an easy one (I'm in thongs as i wasnt planning on walking), so off we set again to trek into ABG....after my huge walk yesterday I really really didn't want to go, but the WannaGunna Tribe (That's our new name)...persuaded me it would be easy!... so we get a little way and the bridge has collapsed so we have to wade through 4 inch deep water (we've just been past a sign that says danger crocs) that was not fun.. then we get to the fkg rocks AGAIN...I scrambled over a lot..(in my thongs) then I said enough is enough...fuck these gorges/rock pools/views...I don't need to see any more... once again the Wannagunna Tribe tried to push me on...(let's face it one in all in, can't leave a Tribe member to face the elements all by themselves)..but I resisted I just couldn't do another rock scramble. I also couldn't stay where I was , in the hot sun on a rock.. so I had no choice but to face the elements and try and get back without my Tribe. As I was trepidly trying to negotiate the last rock , down I went , like the proverbial bag of s..t... bounced on a few hit my elbow, my hip ..by this time I was well and truly crying my little eyes out (no-one else around) so I could have a dam good cry.. feeling stupid/helpless/failure ...having a real pity party...I had no choice but to pick myself up and continue the arduous journey ahead of me (hahahaha)...I had blood dripping down my arm , no water and no tissues (Glenn had the bag)... I can't wash in the water as there are crocs in there (bloody NT) it will be fun they said)... so I'm walking through this tiny track with thick bush /swamp either side on my own, blood dripping down my arm, tears 😢 dripping down my face.. and I hear a bloody rustle in the bush..to say I shit myself is an understatement.. , now I don't run,... but I started running.. that rustling kept going.. I'm like it's a fkg crocodile 🐊 😋 ..it can smell my blood...I have never been so scared in my life...just as I get to the underwater bridge where I'm sure the crocodile 🐊 is coming to get me..some other people came and started to walk across...I breathed a huge sigh of relief and kept going...I got back to car.. and waited for the Tribe... fuck you NT and fuck your Rocks and Crocs 😰😰😰😰😰Read more

    Banka Banka Station

    June 21, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Big day today , left our free camp at bum fuck nowhere, to get to Gordon's brother Jim who had broken down in Tennant Creek. We arrived at around 12..poor Gordon worked on his car for 3 hours to ensure they could keep going...we left there at around 3pm and arrived at Banka Banka Station at around 4.30..it was a big day...Banka Banka is also in the middle of nowhere. It's a working Station but they have turned it into a caravan park.. great stop. They have great facilities, a little bar (they sell their own wine) and they have a bit of music and do damper over the fire. (Ours was better lol)..We had a nice nice chatting to a lovely young couple who have sold everything to travel with their two young children. We are off to Daly Waters next!Read more
