    Halfway

    March 3, 2020 in Belgium ⋅ 🌧 3 °C

So here we go! In the second Train I am taking today having the time of my life 😉 haha no seriously I’m kinda productive and trying to Organise some accommodations for the next days / weeks. To get into the right mood I share my seat table with an english elderly 🧓🏻👴🏼
The longer I drive the more I get excited about the next 2,5 weeks - so I’ll keep you updated 🌈
Planned to arrive at 4:05pm in London (-1HR)

P.S.: to all the Germans: I’m gonna have an extra hour more than you today 🤓

  • London 1st

    March 3, 2020 in England ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

As soon as I left the station it was like: WHAM!!! People, taxis, busses, bikes - all in one. I decided to take a long walk to my hostel and so I went from a crowded street into an empty street, I saw some nice architectures, interesting people and accidentally ran into a movie cut. As soon as I arrived in my 33 persons dorm I knew these are going to be some interesting two nights 😄 hopefully I’ll find a host for Bristol soon. 🤷🏼‍♀️Read more

    March 4, 2020 in England ⋅ 🌧 8 °C

Uff what a City! So many impressions in so little time! Luckily I could sleep through the night even though I shared my room with 20 others and one of them snores so loud that I could hear it through my earplugs...
Starting my day at 11am means keep walking through the city (you can see it in the map) until 5pm and only taking a break of 30 minutes for a nice coffee. I basically saw every tourist attraction you can imagine which was quite nice but I do hate being a tourist and always try to fit in and behave as a “normal” kid 😄
It is still challenging to keep looking right first Begierde crossing the street and even taking the stairs on the left side - crazy! Luckily there was no rain... until 2pm - but hey I don’t want to complain the rain could have been heavier!
Me feet hurt now but hey I just need to explore Anke her city tomorrow 😉
By the way: I found a host for Bristol and for Fort William and hooked a hostel in Edinburgh (it just looked so cute and was soooo cheap an somehow I just felt like it) - so I just need a host for Cardiff and Glasgow and that’s about it.

  • Bath & Weston

    March 5, 2020 in England ⋅ ☁️ 4 °C

I originally planned a whole day in Bath after I slept like a puppy in this super luxury hostel (not). Spontaneous as I can be with my Ticket I decided to see the ocean after Bath was disappointing. So i spent my time in a Café and took the next train to Weston super Mare and had a nice sunset at the ocean. ☺️
Noticed that I’m not allowed to use the subways well ooops! I was lucky that a staffmember let me through the control gate without letting me pay afterwards. I slowly get to know how to use my ticket right since the English people have control gates before entering the platforms. And of course: all the trains are perfectly on time, the stations super organised and in general everything better than the most famous DB. Well well... right now I’m on my way back to Bristol to meet my very first host during this trip. I really look forward to finally speak some more English than „yes“ „thank you“ or „I’m good“. Going to explore Bristol the next two days 👋🏼

  • Bristol 1st

    March 6, 2020 in England ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

Lucky me has a host that can cook and has a breadmaker which meant fresh and warm bread in the morning and some nice self taught meals for dinner.
My first day in Bristol was full of colors! I spent walking around and spotting street art which got me so excited! (There were so many - unfortunately I can only upload 6 of them)
Luckily the sun showed up and spread some warmth around - for some english people is sun the understanding of wearing a T-shirt no matter what the temperature is - so I spent some time at the park enjoying my time but also walked around the city center exploring. Bristol is a left-Wing// Alternative City with its spots and highlights. It kind of reminded me of Hamburg especially because of its own harbour.
Bristol is also known as the city of cider which is quite lucky for me so my host Pat and I went to some bars to enjoy their homemade cider and listen to some live bands (Bristol is also known for its live music at the weekend, some bars even daily!)
I’m pretty tired now, looking forward for some sleep and an nicely made English breakfast tomorrow morning.

  • Bristol 2nd

    March 7, 2020 in England ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Waking up late and getting a freshly made omelette got me the day started right. After I left the house I went down the same street as yesterday because my host told me I’ve missed a big streetart masterpiece. Noticing that I did not only miss one makes me still happy exploring the area. I kept walking through a park to reach the Clifton Suspension Bridge which looked promising from the distance. After I hiked up the hill through the woods I realized that this bridge was quite a tourist attraction and after I enjoyed the view by myself I understood why.
After spending some time at the very top of Bristol I had an arrangement with my host Pat to watch a football game in a bar which was quite energetic and new territory for me. Still it was fun to watch and I even made contact with a couple during the game.
The evening faded with a foot massage by me and a super delicious dinner.

  • Gloucester

    March 8, 2020 in England ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

When I opened the curtains for the very first time it was raining cats and dogs and so I thought my day will be fun but hey it’s England and so it stopped raining after 20 minutes and the sky was blue and kept being for the rest of the day. Unfortunetly I spent most of the time on the train and so I just had a quick hint at Gloucester which seemed pretty small and cosy.
I now arrived in Cardiff where I’m going to stay in the cutest hostel ever and lucky me I share the 16 bed dorm with only one other girl from New Zealand (she is so cool!). There’ll be more guests the next day but I’m pretty happy I chose this hostel which is placed directly in the center.
    Looking forward for tomorrow!

  • Cardiff 1st

    March 9, 2020 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

Still totally in love with the hostel I ended up having the 18 bed dorm on my own 🥳
Started my day with a walk to Cardiff Bay which didn’t turn out to be as beach-ish as I expected but it was worth a visit.
Suddenly I was in a mood for shopping and so I explored the city center with its shops and accidentally found a castle in the middle of it which turned out to be the most touristic attraction of Cardiff. So yeah there’s just not much more to see here that’s why I decided to stay in the rest of the evening especially as it started to rain heavily.
For tomorrow I decided to have a day to calm down and enjoy the loneliness in my room, watch some movies, do some stuff and maybe have a little walk. I kind of have the feeling that I’m in need of that because of the mass I’ve been walking so far.

  • Cardiff 2nd

    March 10, 2020 in Wales ⋅ 🌬 11 °C

Soooo my day off was amazing I literally just walked to the bathroom or to the store right in front of the hostel and spent the rest of the time in my bed. Therefore I don’t have much to tell that’s why I’ll tell you some fun facts about the English people here.

1.: traffic lights for pedestrians are more a recommendation than a strict thing to follow - they take ages to turn green anyways - trust me I tried it and waited at least 2 minutes... even elderly walk whenever they want :D
2.: cash?! What’s that? Everything works with your credit card (and I love it!) there are self checkouts in every supermarket and you’ll rarely find a cashier. Even in bars you pay with your card of course. - Germany when will you grow up?
3.: train stations have a control gate you have to pass and employees working 24/7 to help out if something isn’t working or if interrail travelers have to pass ;)
4.: as soon as the sun comes out english people get rid of their warm clothes and prefer T-shirts even if it’s still cold...
5.: the UK has about 4 or 5 languages and many many more accents

  • Liverpool -> Glasgow

    March 11, 2020 in England ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

My night was rough: super loud noises from the street in front of the window, one of my two roomies that night caught all the time and one of those two forgot to turn off the bathroom light which shined directly into my face when I turned to the left side... Nevermind
So I left early to head to Liverpool to spend some hours there and wow... I don’t know if this was because of the nice weather or because of the city itself but I really liked it there! The vibe of the city was great! Unfortunately I haven’t seen much but of course had to visit the harbor (I take every chance to see the ocean)
Then my route didn’t go as planned, because one train got cancelled very spontaneously so I had to rearrange but it worked out in the end. I’m still sitting in the train and gonna approach to Glasgow soon. Robert - my next host - doesn’t live in the Centre so I need to take another train to come close to his place and then have another walk for about 20 minutes. I’m tired as hell and really hope that Robert just lets me sleep directly and also let me sleep in :D
Everyone I met so far told me that Glasgow is awesome so I really look forward to explore the city and its area to its fullest.
But for now on: wish me luck that I’ll catch my last train and head to bed soon ;)

  • Glasgow 1st

    March 12, 2020 in Scotland ⋅ 🌧 4 °C

It was pouring rain when I left the house after a long and refreshing sleep. I tried to hitchhike all the way down to the city center but unfortunately no one was up to give me a lift so I decided to trick the train staff and use my interrail pass even if it’s not valid for today but none checked it closely the whole trip so why should they today? And I was right and lucky enough and gonna repeat that tomorrow.
Unfortunately I was super wet and cold at the start of my exploration so I decided to have lunch first to get dry and warm and start exploring afterwards which was great.
Glasgow? You’re a beauty and probably much more beautiful with the perfect weather! 🌈 but it was still worth a visit and I’m gonna hope for more and better circumstances tomorrow!

Sun? Is that you? Well hello! Vitamin D is kicking in and I got so much power for the day so I started it with a nice walk at the riverside and discovered many great architectures. Taking my way back to the city center to get some food, clouds started covering the sky and let the wind blow pretty cold.
Had a meetup with my host at a vegan cafe and so I tried my first vegan cake which was so delicious (and fucking expensive 🙄)
Decided to have a relaxed evening and took a bath while Robert was out.

  • Somewhere in Scotland

    March 14, 2020 in Scotland ⋅ 🌧 1 °C

So I spent the day sitting in the train going up with the West Highland Lane and I gotta admit, the scenery is stunning! I’ve started in spring, drive through the winter and landed in autumn. Pictures can’t really tell how it really looked like.
Thanks to... you know what... I’ve decided to drive back to Edinburgh tomorrow morning (15.3). And head home earlier than planned.
Gonna enjoy Edinburgh at its fullest!

    March 15, 2020 in Scotland ⋅ 🌧 6 °C

I got up early because my host and I wanted to take a little hike before I leave. Turned out that we left at 7:30 and came back two hours later. It was raining all the time which is pretty normal here because it’s the most rainy city in the UK. But walking that early was so refreshing and the nature? Wow it was amazing!
Will be on the train to Edinburgh the rest of the day but also can’t wait to see the amazing scenery during the trip again!

    *it’s pronounced Edinbra*
It is soooo beautiful here! The old town, that’s also where me hostel is located, is full of fancy old buildings right out of some vintage movie! My hostel is amazing and so I met two german girls yesterday and we went out for a drink and some life music.
This morning my body told me to get up at six, maybe because I knew that there’ll be sun and blue sky until 1pm. So I started my day at 7:30am and hiked up the hill to ‘Arthurs seat’ to have the best view over the city. After a lot of walking around and enjoying the weather and the area I decided to visit the National museum with free entry because of an recommendation of the two Germans. And it was indeed pretty cool, but at some point my feet told me to rest, so I’ll spend the rest of the evening in bed with some good reads.
