Finally arrived in Fiji! It's raining and humid walking through the airport, walkway is roofed but is outside. We are greated by the strums of ukuleles and singing. Going through customs is relatively easy and the wait isnt too long. Sam is happy with the free bottled water! We collect our luggage and go through an old style giant luggage scanner.

On the other side we use the ATM and grab a digicel sim (that they set up in like 1 minute) works out to be about 1/3 of the cost of roaming so that's a win!

Driver is waiting with our name on a sign, and there is a bus waiting to take us to Anchoredge Resort Jetty.Read more

Day 1
Heading to Malolo Island

Catching the Transfer boat to the Funky Fish Surf Resort.
All our luggage has been bagged up to stop it from getting wet. There are two other couples on the boat so 6 of us in total. Sam and I sit up the front by ourselves thinking we will enjoy the scenery, best-laid plans it seems!
The water is rough and it starts bucketing down about 15 mins into our transfer. The rain feels like needles going into your skin and we are soaked and being thrown around on the boat, trying to cling to our cushion as there is nothing to hold on to lol at this point I'm just happy we have a cushion as the banging up and down is relentless! And some point the captain takes pity on Sam and gives him his jacket, which Sam wears like a dress but is covered.
The clouds are dark and it suddenly feels like we are in the movie "The Perfect Storm"

Day 1
Malolo Island

We arrive in the dark at the Funky Fish Resort. We are soaking wet and I mean soaking lol
We collect our luggage and drag it up the short walk to reception, the manager sees that we are saturated and offers us the keys, and a shower before heading to dinner and he will check us in later. Thank god lol
We head to our hut and its budget! 2 single beds, a small fridge and an outdoor style bathroom. Think our luggage takes up 90% of the room space.
Everything in our bags is fairly damp despite being wrapped in plastic so that's not a good time. We have nowhere to hang things and it's still raining so no hope outside. We shower and change and head to dinner.
It's explained that the meals are shared and eaten like a family at tables so you can meet people.

This is our home for the next 3 nights and honestly one of the highlights of our trip. The staff were great and super friendly, and the meals were good homemade and filling (kid loved them) There were books to read, 8ball, music all day and all night lol, pool, Snorkelling off the beach, volleyball etc
We were out every day diving but managed to friends with an NZ couple and play cards with them In the evening.Read more

Day 2
Musket Cove / Suburface Fiji

Picked up at 8am and taken on the boat to Musket Cove Resort (just round the harbour from the Funky fish)
We head to the dive shop and sign our life's away 🤣 and then walk up to the pool.
Here we start our Open Water Dive Certification.
After we finish our pool session we spend the afternoon at Musket Cove. Long Islands by the pool and a wander to the marina for lunch.

The next 2 days following consist of 4 boat dives, practising skills and competing our certification. There and no videos or photos at this time due learning!Read more

The boat transfer back from Malolo was a little better lol

Arrived at the Sheraton and it was like one extreme to the other lol backpackers with leaking room, to plush comfortable beds, aircon and a huge shower lol
The foyer is amazing, welcome drums and convenience stores and a buggy to take us to our room.

We catch up with Katie and Ben then head for dinner at Heineken House.Read more
