Growing through and from adversity. I am fascinated by trees that have been burnt or cut down, and new trees spring from the stump and grow as though this is where they are meant to be.

Burnt out

Arriving at the Stoney Creek shops to meet a friend for coffee, i noticed something missing. The big old gum tree that was always filled with rosellas and kookaburras is missing. The stump has been removed, and now it is only a memory for those who knew it was there once. My friend and I remember the tree. We are both sad it is gone. We are both burnt out.
When the fire burns from within for too long, we are left hollow.
When everything around us burns too, others collapse on top of us, creating an entangled and unholy mess.

Back into the studio

Buying a new linen smock dress was a pathway into the studio again. Then buying two more, the same colour and style, was the choice that is now holding me safely, as an artist in this place.
