    🇬🇧 Today has been a restful day after our big hike yesterday. We spent the morning organising the car and cleaning some stuff. In the afternoon, we had a stroll around town and Lake Wanaka.

    🇩🇪 Heute war ein erholsamer Tag nach unserer langen Wanderung gestern. Wir haben den Morgen damit verbracht, das Auto zu organisieren und ein paar Sachen sauber zu machen. Am Nachmittag haben wir einen Spaziergang durch die Stadt und zum Lake Wanaka gemacht.    Lue lisää

    🇬🇧 Today started off innocently enough but got swiftly derailed. Before travelling to Mount Cook, we wanted to visit Puzzling World in Wanaka which has a cool outdoor maze and some optical illusions. Unfortunately, as we started the maze I felt very nauseous and unwell so we had to stop and Rob had to drive to a pharmacy to get anti-nausea medication. The medication didn't really work, but we made it through the maze at least.

    Unfortunately from there things did not improve. It seems I caught a stomach bug from somewhere and I felt sick for most of the day. We still drove to Aoraki / Mount Cook because it didn't really make any difference where we were so we might as well travel to our next destination. In Mount Cook we had planned to go camping for two nights but had to get a hotel room instead. Hopefully things will improve tomorrow.

    🇩🇪 Der heutige Tag begann ganz harmlos, geriet aber schnell aus dem Ruder. Bevor wir zum Mount Cook aufbrachen, wollten wir Puzzling World in Wanaka besuchen. Dort gibt es ein cooles Outdoor-Labyrinth und ein paar optische Täuschungen. Leider wurde mir gleich zu Beginn des Labyrinths sehr übel und ich fühlte mich unwohl, sodass wir rausgehen mussten. Rob musste zur Apotheke fahren, um Medikamente gegen Übelkeit zu holen. Die Medikamente halfen zwar nicht wirklich, aber wir haben es zumindest durch das Labyrinth geschafft.

    Leider wurde es danach nicht besser. Anscheinend hatte ich mir irgendwo einen Magen-Darm-Virus eingefangen, und mir war fast den ganzen Tag übel. Wir fuhren trotzdem nach Aoraki/Mount Cook, weil es eigentlich egal war, wo wir waren. Wir konnten also genauso gut zu unserem nächsten Ziel weiterreisen. In Mount Cook wollten wir eigentlich zwei Nächte zelten, mussten uns aber stattdessen ein Hotelzimmer nehmen. Hoffentlich bessert sich morgen alles.    Lue lisää

    70 | Mt Cook | White Horse Hill Campsite

    🇬🇧 This is a busy and lively campsite, but it's not a surprise as it is located directly at the start of one of the most popular tracks in the entire National Park with stunning views of Mount Sefton (when the fog finally lifts). Day trip cars were parked half a kilometer down the street so it was really lucky we had a camping spot. It also had flushing toilets and clean drinking water. Absolute luxury!

    🇩🇪 Auf diesem Campingplatz ist viel los. Das ist aber nicht verwunderlich, denn er liegt direkt am Anfang eines der beliebtesten Wanderwege des gesamten Nationalparks und bietet einen atemberaubenden Blick auf den Mount Sefton (wenn sich der Nebel endlich lichtet). Die Autos der Tagesausflügler parkten einen halben Kilometer die Straße hinunter, daher hatten wir Glück, einen Campingplatz gebucht zu haben. Es gab auch Toiletten mit Wasserspülung und sauberes Trinkwasser. Absoluter Luxus!    Lue lisää

    🇬🇧 After a pretty comfortable night in the hotel I was feeling a lot better, so we checked out and pitched our tent for the second night on the campsite. We spent the day resting and watching the clouds lift from the peak of Aoraki/Mount Cook. Rob did a short walk to a lookout point. The views from our camp were already beautiful, although we were hoping we can still do a nice short hike the following day to get a bit closer.

    Unfortunately, our luck changed as Rob came down with the same bug on the second night, which kept us awake most of the night. This time we had no cushy hotel but just a public shelter. Although he recovered mostly by morning, it meant we spent our second day resting in camp (and trying to sleep while everyone slams their campervan sliding doors). The weather was absolutely beautiful and there are much worse places to spend a day in than Mount Cook. In the afternoon, I did a short walk to a lookout point as well, so we both managed to get a view of Mount Cook before we departed.

    🇩🇪 Nach einer recht gemütlichen Nacht im Hotel ging es mir schon viel besser. Wir checkten aus und schlugen unser Zelt für die zweite Nacht auf dem Campingplatz auf. Den Tag verbrachten wir damit, uns auszuruhen und zuzusehen, wie sich die Wolken vom Gipfel des Aoraki/Mount Cook lichteten. Rob machte einen kurzen Spaziergang zu einem Aussichtspunkt. Die Aussicht von unserem Lager war wunderschön. Wir hofften trotzdem, am nächsten Tag noch eine schöne kurze Wanderung machen zu können, um etwas näher heranzukommen.

    Leider hielt unser Glück nicht an, denn Rob ging es dann schlecht in der zweiten Nacht, was uns die halbe Nacht wach hielt. Diesmal hatten wir kein gemütliches Hotel, sondern nur eine öffentliche Campinghütte. Obwohl er sich bis zum Morgen größtenteils erholt hatte, verbrachten wir unseren zweiten Tag damit, uns im Lager auszuruhen (und zu versuchen zu schlafen, während alle anderen ihre Wohnmobil-Schiebetüren zuknallten). Das Wetter war traumhaft schön, und es gibt viel schlechtere Orte, um einen Tag zu verbringen als bei Mount Cook. Am Nachmittag machte ich ebenfalls einen kurzen Spaziergang zu einem Aussichtspunkt, sodass wir beide vor unserer Abreise noch einen Blick auf den Mount Cook erhaschen konnten.    Lue lisää

    🇬🇧 Our second-to-last campsite is directly at Lake Tekapo, with almost every site having a stunning lake view. It's clean, it's got all the conveniences, and because it's the only campsite in Lake Tekapo, it's also quite expensive. But sitting in the sun watching the ducks on the stunning blue lake makes it all worth it.

    🇩🇪 Unser vorletzter Campingplatz liegt direkt am Lake Tekapo und bietet von fast jedem Platz einen atemberaubenden Seeblick. Er ist sauber, bietet alle Annehmlichkeiten und ist, da er der einzige Campingplatz am Lake Tekapo ist, auch recht teuer. Aber in der Sonne zu sitzen und die Enten auf dem atemberaubend blauen See zu beobachten, ist es allemal wert.    Lue lisää

    🇬🇧 Lake Tekapo is definitely one of the most picturesque places to wake up in. We both had a long restful night, and today was hopefully our last day of forced rest. While I was feeling mostly myself, Rob was still a bit under the weather, so we took it slowly and walked around town and the lakeside. We visited two famous landmarks, the Church of the Holy Shepherd and the Collie Dog Statue. I liked the dog more.

    🇩🇪 Lake Tekapo ist definitiv einer der malerischsten Orte zum Aufwachen. Wir hatten beide eine lange erholsame Nacht, und heute war hoffentlich unser letzter Tag der erzwungenen Ruhe. Während ich mich größtenteils wieder wohl fühlte, war Rob immer noch etwas angeschlagen, also ließen wir es langsam angehen und spazierten durch die Stadt und am Seeufer entlang. Wir besuchten zwei berühmte Sehenswürdigkeiten: die Church of the Holy Shepherd und die Collie-Statue. Mir gefiel der Hund besser.    Lue lisää

    73 | Canterbury | Lake Tekapo Horse Trek

    🇬🇧 One day delayed due to illness, but still much anticipated, we did our Alpine Horse Trek today. I was riding on a horse called Rocky that (according to Rob) was pooing more than any other horse. Rob was on a horse called Gavin who liked to snack on bushes and walk out of line. Also joining us was Lola the dog who has the best life a dog could wish for. We rode up and down some mountains, through the woods, and even a short section through the lake. The views were stunning and although we were very sore after 2.5 hours, it was definitely worth it.

    🇩🇪 Mit einem Tag Verspätung wegen Krankheit, aber dennoch mit großer Vorfreude, haben wir heute unseren Alpenritt gemacht. Ich ritt auf einem Pferd namens Rocky, der (laut Rob) mehr kackte als jedes andere Pferd. Rob ritt Gavin, der gerne an Büschen knabberte und aus der Reihe tanzte. Auch Lola der Hund war dabei und hat das schönste Leben, das sich ein Hund wünschen kann. Wir ritten Berge rauf und runter, durch Wälder und sogar ein kurzes Stück durch den See. Die Aussicht war atemberaubend und obwohl unsere Hinterteile nach 2,5 Stunden ziemlich weh taten, hat es sich definitiv gelohnt.    Lue lisää

    74 | Kaikoura Whale Watching Cruise

    🇬🇧 Not every day is all sunshine and rainbows, and today was one of the more stressful ones. We originally wanted to go on a whale watching cruise in Kaikoura in the afternoon, but unfortunately, it was booked out, so we had to get up early to drive 2 hours to be on time for the earlier cruise. As we arrived there, we found out that there was space for us on the afternoon cruise after all, but they forgot to tell us. Whatever, we thought, we're here now.

    The annoyance didn't stop there however, as the cruise was packed with tourists which all fell into one of the following categories:

    1) incredibly impatient and had to run to be first for everything (on the bus, off the bus, on the boat, off the boat, even though it made no difference as we all got on the same cruise)

    2) incredibly inconsiderate and pushing past us without looking or apologising

    3) incredibly annoying, talking loudly over each other and not listening to the instructions of the crew

    (Ok rant over now!!) That being said, we did see a sperm whale called Manu, as well as a large pod of Dusky Dolphins, which was nice. Our tour guide also had lots of interesting information on the marine life around Kaikoura and how they spot whales without interfering with them or the other animals in the marine reserve.

    🇩🇪 Nicht jeder Tag ist eitel Sonnenschein, und heute war einer der stressigeren. Eigentlich wollten wir nachmittags in Kaikoura eine Walbeobachtungstour machen, aber leider war sie ausgebucht. Also mussten wir früh aufstehen und zwei Stunden fahren, um pünktlich zur früheren Tour zu sein. Dort angekommen, stellten wir fest, dass auf der Nachmittagstour doch noch Platz für uns war, aber man hatte vergessen, uns Bescheid zu sagen. Egal, dachten wir, jetzt sind wir ja da.

    Der Ärger war damit aber noch nicht vorbei, denn die Bootsfahrt war voll mit Touristen, die alle in eine der folgenden Kategorien fielen:

    1) unglaublich ungeduldig und mussten überall rennen, um als Erste dran zu sein (in den Bus, aus dem Bus, ins Boot, aus dem Boot, obwohl es keinen Unterschied machte, da wir alle auf derselben Tour waren)

    2) unglaublich rücksichtslos und drängten sich an uns vorbei, ohne sich umzuschauen oder sich zu entschuldigen

    3) unglaublich nervig, da sie laut durcheinander redeten und den Anweisungen der Crew nicht zuhörten

    (Ok Tirade jetzt vorbei!!) Trotzdem haben wir einen Pottwal namens Manu sowie eine große Schule Schwarzdelfine gesehen, was sehr schön war. Unser Reiseleiter hatte auch viele interessante Informationen über das Meeresleben rund um Kaikoura und wie sie Wale beobachten, ohne sie oder die anderen Tiere im Meeresschutzgebiet zu stören.     74 | Picton | Waikawa Bay Holiday Park

    🇬🇧 We originally planned to camp in Kaikoura for the night, however Rob still was feeling a bit under the weather, so we decided to press on to Picton and stay in a tiny cabin on the campsite there. We've never stayed in a cabin before and it was super cute and had everything we needed. It wasn't too expensive and totally worth it to have a private little room to ourselves and not having to sleep in the tent. The campsite itself was a bit dated but had lots of character which made up for its shortcomings.

    🇩🇪 Ursprünglich wollten wir in Kaikoura campen, aber Rob fühlte sich immer noch etwas unwohl, also beschlossen wir, weiter nach Picton zu fahren und dort in einer Mini-Hütte auf dem Campingplatz zu übernachten. Wir hatten noch nie zuvor in einer Hütte übernachtet, und sie war supersüß und hatte alles, was wir brauchten. Es war nicht zu teuer und es hat sich absolut gelohnt, ein eigenes kleines Zimmer für uns zu haben und nicht im Zelt schlafen zu müssen. Der Campingplatz selbst war etwas in die Jahre gekommen, hatte aber viel Charakter, was die Mängel wettmachte.    Lue lisää

    75 | Picton to Otaki

    🇬🇧 Under clear blue skies we set out on the ferry to Wellington today, finally leaving our South Island adventures behind. But not before having a final stroll through Picton and relaxing near the harbour.

    Once we arrived in Wellington we had no desire to spend another Saturday night in the city, so we drove another hour to a small town called Otaki where we stayed the night in an Airbnb.

    🇩🇪 Unter strahlend blauem Himmel setzten wir heute mit der Fähre nach Wellington über und ließen unsere Abenteuer auf der Südinsel endgültig hinter uns. Doch zuvor hatten wir noch einen letzten Spaziergang durch Picton gemacht und uns am Hafen entspannt.

    In Wellington angekommen, hatten wir keine Lust, noch eine Samstagnacht in der Stadt zu verbringen, also fuhren wir noch eine Stunde weiter in die kleine Stadt Otaki, wo wir in einem Airbnb übernachteten.    Lue lisää

    76 | Otaki to New Plymouth

    🇬🇧 The drive itself from Otaki today was very uneventful. We briefly stopped in a place called Sanson to swap drivers and were distracted by a flea market there. Next we passed through Whanganui which was a really nice town and had lunch near Virginia Lake. At the lake is a Winter Garden full of exotic plants, as well as an aviary with lots of different birds, both of which were completely free to visit. Afterwards we continued to New Plymouth where we're staying with our lovely Couchsurfing host Barbara.

    🇩🇪 Die Fahrt von Otaki verlief heute sehr ereignislos. Wir hielten kurz in einer Stadt namens Sanson, um Fahrer zu wechseln, und wurden dort von einem Flohmarkt abgelenkt. Anschließend fuhren wir durch Whanganui, eine wirklich schöne Stadt, und aßen in der Nähe des Virginia Lake zu Mittag. Am See gibt es einen Wintergarten voller exotischer Pflanzen sowie eine Voliere mit vielen verschiedenen Vögeln – beides war kostenlos zu besichtigen. Anschließend fuhren wir weiter nach New Plymouth, wo wir bei unserer netten Couchsurfing-Gastgeberin Barbara übernachten.    Lue lisää

    🇬🇧 The weather forecast said it would be cloudy today so we didn't expect much visibility of the mountain. However, when we woke up we had a clear view of Mount Egmont / Taranaki so we decided to make the most of it. First we visited a nice little lookout point near Lake Mangamahoe. As the weather remained fine we decided to skip our walk around the lake and instead drive up to the Visitor Centre and do a short walk there. It took about 45 minutes to walk to the viewpoint, and we caught a small glimpse of Mount Ruapehu in Tongariro National Park before it disappeared behind the clouds. By 11am the clouds had also finally covered the peak of Mt Taranaki, and we headed back to New Plymouth for the afternoon.

    🇩🇪 Der Wetterbericht sagte für heute bewölktes Wetter voraus, daher rechneten wir mit schwacher Sicht auf den Berg. Als wir jedoch aufwachten, hatten wir klare Sicht auf Mount Egmont/Taranaki und beschlossen, das Beste daraus zu machen. Zuerst besuchten wir einen schönen kleinen Aussichtspunkt in der Nähe des Lake Mangamahoe. Da das Wetter schön blieb, beschlossen wir, unseren Spaziergang um den See ausfallen zu lassen und stattdessen zum Besucherzentrum zu fahren und dort einen kurzen Spaziergang zu machen. Der Weg zum Aussichtspunkt dauerte etwa 45 Minuten, und wir erhaschten einen kurzen Blick auf Mount Ruapehu im Tongariro-Nationalpark, bevor er hinter den Wolken verschwand. Gegen 11 Uhr hatten die Wolken schließlich auch den Gipfel des Mount Taranaki verdeckt, und wir fuhren für den Nachmittag zurück nach New Plymouth.    Lue lisää

    🇬🇧 New Plymouth isn't as stunning Milford Sound, or as touristy as Rotorua, but it's not a bad little town to visit. We first drove to Te Rewa Rewa Bridge which I didn't know was only opened a few years before I first visited in 2013. Then we drove into town and walked around the city centre and the waterfront. While the town centre was quite large and had bits that looked a bit run down, there was lots and lots of street art and sculptures everywhere. We also visited Pukekura Park and watched a Cricket game for a few minutes, but decided to come back tomorrow to walk around the park in the daytime.

    🇩🇪 New Plymouth ist zwar nicht so atemberaubend wie Milford Sound oder so touristisch wie Rotorua, aber es ist ein schönes Städtchen für einen Besuch. Wir fuhren zuerst zur Te Rewa Rewa Bridge, von der ich nicht wusste, dass sie erst wenige Jahre vor meinem ersten Besuch 2013 eröffnet wurde. Dann fuhren wir in die Stadt und spazierten durch die Innenstadt und am Meer entlang. Obwohl die Innenstadt recht groß war und einige Teile etwas heruntergekommen wirkten, gab es überall jede Menge Straßenkunst und Skulpturen. Wir besuchten auch den Pukekura Park und sahen uns kurz ein Cricketspiel an, beschlossen aber, morgen wiederzukommen, um tagsüber durch den Park zu spazieren.    Lue lisää

    🇬🇧 Our Couchsurfing host told us about a free zoo for kids, so obviously we had to check it out before leaving this morning! It's called Brooklands Zoo and is a small, free(!) zoo in Pukekura Park in New Plymouth. It had quite a lot of different animals from meerkats to otters to monkeys and parrots. It was much better than expected and definitely not just for kids!

    After visiting the zoo we walked around Pukekura Park, had a piece of cake at the tea house, and fed the ducks (acorns not bread).

    🇩🇪 Unsere Couchsurfing-Gastgeberin hatte uns von einem kostenlosen Zoo für Kinder erzählt, den wir uns natürlich ansehen mussten, bevor wir heute Morgen abreisten! Er heißt Brooklands Zoo und ist ein kleiner, kostenloser (!) Zoo im Pukekura Park in New Plymouth. Es gab dort viele verschiedene Tiere, von Erdmännchen über Otter bis hin zu Affen und Papageien. Er war viel besser als erwartet und definitiv nicht nur für Kinder!

    Nach dem Zoobesuch spazierten wir durch den Pukekura Park, aßen ein Stück Kuchen im Teehaus und fütterten die Enten (Eicheln, kein Brot).    Lue lisää

    🇬🇧 We had a very long car journey ahead of us today. However, because several people have recommended Hamilton Gardens to us, we just couldn't help but visit before leaving Waikato. And we're both very glad we did. The gardens were really amazing, there were 20 in total, each with a different theme, usually a time period or art style. It wasn't just different plants, the landscaping and even relevant architecture was incorporated beautifully into each space. After seeing the first two I went back to reception to get two audio guides because there were so many details I wanted to learn more about. We spent way longer there than we expected but it was super worth it.

    My favourite gardens were the Chinese Scholars Garden and the Mansfield Garden (1920s New Zealand). Rob's favourites were the Ancient Egyptian Garden (one of its kind in the world) and the Italian Renaissance Garden.

    🇩🇪 Heute lag eine sehr lange Autofahrt vor uns. Da uns jedoch mehrere Leute die Hamilton Gardens empfohlen hatten, konnten wir es uns einfach nicht verkneifen, sie vor unserer Abreise aus Waikato zu besuchen. Und wir sind beide sehr froh darüber. Die Gärten waren wirklich beeindruckend. Es gab insgesamt 20 Gärten, jeder mit einem anderen Thema, meist eine Epoche oder ein Kunststil. Es waren nicht nur unterschiedliche Pflanzen, auch die Landschaftsgestaltung und sogar die dazugehörige Architektur waren wunderschön in jeden Bereich integriert. Nachdem ich die ersten beiden gesehen hatte, ging ich zurück zur Rezeption, um mir zwei Audioguides zu holen, weil es so viele Details gab, über die ich mehr erfahren wollte. Wir verbrachten viel länger dort als erwartet, aber es hat sich absolut gelohnt.

    Meine Lieblingsgärten waren der Chinese Scholars Garden und der Mansfield Garden (Neuseeland der 1920er Jahre). Robs Favoriten waren der Altägyptische Garten (einzigartig auf der Welt) und der Italienische Renaissancegarten.    Lue lisää

    🇬🇧 For the final days of our trip we booked a lovely Airbnb right at the beach. Unfortunately, a huge window-rattling storm accompanied by an orange weather warning completely derailed any plans we might have had. At least we're not in a tent but in a comfy little cabin watching the tide go in and out and petting Buddy the dog.

    🇩🇪 Für die letzten Tage unserer Reise hatten wir ein schönes Airbnb direkt am Strand gebucht. Leider machte ein heftiger Sturm, der die Fenster klappern ließ und eine orangefarbene Wetterwarnung auslöste, unsere Pläne komplett zunichte. Wenigstens sind wir nicht im Zelt, sondern in einer gemütlichen kleinen Hütte, beobachten die Ebbe und Flut und streicheln Buddy den Hund.    Lue lisää

    81 | Northland | Whangarei

    🇬🇧 The weather today was still pretty poor after last night's storm; nonetheless we decided to brav the wet and windy to go out today. Our first stop was the Hundertwasser Art Gallery in Whangarei. It was a really cool building and had some really interesting art.

    Afterwards, we walked around town for a bit. Whangarei isn't the most cosmopolitan place but there was a really large second hand bookshop with two fat shop cats that kept us busy for quite a while.

    Finally we visited Whangarei Falls. We didn't expect much but because of the recent heavy rain the falls were actually quite impressive.

    All in all not bad for a rainy day.

    🇩🇪 Das Wetter war heute nach dem Sturm der letzten Nacht immer noch ziemlich schlecht; trotzdem beschlossen wir, dem nassen Wind zu trotzen und rauszugehen. Unser erster Stopp war die Hundertwasser Art Gallery in Whangarei. Es war ein wirklich cooles Gebäude und hatte einige wirklich interessante Kunstwerke.

    Danach schlenderten wir ein bisschen durch die Stadt. Whangarei ist nicht gerade der kosmopolitischste Ort, aber es gab einen richtig großen Secondhand-Buchladen mit zwei fetten Ladenkatzen, der uns eine ganze Weile beschäftigte.

    Zum Schluss besuchten wir die Whangarei Falls. Wir hatten nicht viel erwartet, aber aufgrund des starken Regens waren die Wasserfälle tatsächlich ziemlich beeindruckend.

    Alles in allem nicht schlecht für einen Regentag.    Lue lisää

    🇬🇧 After three days of rain, a dry and sunny morning greeted us today. Unfortunately it was also the day we had to leave our little cabin! To make the most of the belated good weather, we took a stroll down to Frogtown Beach and up to Pataua North before leaving. Fun fact, it takes only 5 minutes to walk across the footbridge from Pataua South to North. However, if you need to drive the same distance, you need to take the road all the way around the bay which takes at least 30 minutes by car!

    🇩🇪 Nach drei Tagen Regen erwartete uns heute ein trockener und sonniger Morgen. Leider mussten wir heute unsere kleine Hütte verlassen! Um das verspätete gute Wetter zu genießen, machten wir vor unserer Abreise einen Spaziergang zum Frogtown Beach und hinauf nach Pataua North. Fun Fact: der Fußweg von Pataua South nach North dauert nur 5 Minuten über die Fußgängerbrücke. Wer die gleiche Strecke fahren möchte, muss die Straße rund um die Bucht nehmen, was mindestens 30 Minuten dauert!    Lue lisää

    🇬🇧 Our second-to-last stop on our trip was Paihia, a beautiful seaside town where the weather always seems to be nice and warm. We had a picnic at the beach and a short swim. The water was very muddy from the big rain storm, so we didn't stay in long. On the way there we also stopped at the Hundertwasser Toilets in Kawakawa.

    🇩🇪 Unser vorletzter Stopp auf unserer Reise war Paihia, eine wunderschöne Küstenstadt, in der das Wetter immer schön und warm zu sein scheint. Wir machten ein Picknick am Strand und gingen kurz schwimmen. Das Wasser war vom heftigen Regen sehr schlammig, sodass wir nicht lange drin blieben. Auf dem Weg dorthin machten wir auch Halt bei den Hundertwasser-Toiletten in Kawakawa.    Lue lisää

    82 & 83 | Northland | Gail's Paradise

    🇬🇧 We know this lovely lady called Gail who lives in the far north of New Zealand in a beautiful house at the beach (there's a long story I won't bore you with). We were almost at the end of our trip and didn't have much time left, but I'm glad we managed to travel up to her place and have dinner together. Gail and her son cooked up a huge feast of chicken, salmon, vegetables, salad, and coleslaw, which was absolutely delicious. We chatted all evening with her and her family, and she also let us stay in one of her beautiful holiday cabins. It felt like meeting long lost family and was the perfect end to our trip. We hope we'll be able to see them again soon when they come visit Scotland.

    🇩🇪 Wir kennen diese nette Dame namens Gail, die ganz im Norden Neuseelands in einem wunderschönen Haus am Strand lebt (dazu gibt es eine lange Geschichte, mit der ich euch nicht langweilen möchte). Wir waren fast am Ende unserer Reise und hatten nicht mehr viel Zeit, aber ich bin froh, dass wir es geschafft haben, zu ihr zu fahren und gemeinsam zu Abend zu essen. Gail und ihr Sohn kochten ein riesiges Festmahl mit Hühnchen, Lachs, Gemüse, Salat und Krautsalat, das absolut köstlich war. Wir unterhielten uns den ganzen Abend mit ihr und ihrer Familie, und sie ließ uns auch in einer ihrer wunderschönen Ferienhütten übernachten. Es fühlte sich an, als würden wir lange vermisste Verwandte wiedersehen, und war der perfekte Abschluss unserer Reise. Wir hoffen, wir sehen sie bald wieder, wenn sie Schottland besuchen.     🇬🇧 It was hard saying goodbye to Gail and her family, but after a big breakfast and a promise to meet again soon we finally managed to leave Northland behind. The journey south was uneventful as usual, and we made it back to Auckland in good time.

    🇩🇪 Der Abschied von Gail und ihrer Familie fiel uns schwer, aber nach einem ausgiebigen Frühstück und dem Versprechen, uns bald wiederzusehen, gelang es uns endlich, Northland hinter uns zu lassen.     🇬🇧 Our final day in beautiful NZ! We spent it completely spoiling ourselves with food and sunshine, before realising we have run out of our travel funds (perfect timing). A final visit to the Sky Tower and a tasty meal at a Japanese Restaurant mark the end of our visit.

    🇩🇪 Unser letzter Tag im wunderschönen Neuseeland! Wir haben uns mit Essen und Sonnenschein verwöhnt, bevor wir gemerkt haben, dass unser Reisebudget aufgebraucht war (perfektes Timing).
