    Travelling to London

    The start of my big adventure in 2017!!
    I departed Melbourne feeling both nervous and excited for my four months of travel ahead.
    Flew over some stunning Australian landscapes on the way to Bangkok.
    I had a four hour stop over and I treated myself to a delicious fresh coconut!
    I flew over the new wind turbine farm in the sea which was pretty cool to see.
    On the plane I watched movies including LEGO, Batman, Beauty and the Beast and the Founder. Thai airways was pretty good and I especially enjoyed the chicken curry! 😋     Czytaj więcej

    Arriving in London to meet Jake

    When I got off the tube there was Jake, a relief, but it was actually a pretty easy commute to his house.
    It's a warm 32 degrees today!! Jake and Ali's house is pretty big and they have a spare room for me which makes it very cosey.
    Jake and I rode bikes around and looked at the Columbia Flower market and then through Victoria Park.
    We ate an epic beef wellington at The Hemingway Pub with Ali, Alex and Ben. We checked out the market at Victoria Park and meet two of Jake's friends, Michel and Dora. We then rode to Olympic Park, then along the canal to The Princess of Wales Pub and then to the East London Liquor company for gin and tonics. Jake and I went to a roof top bar called Netil which has epic city views.
    Jake cooked up a delicious salmon stir fry and I somehow managed to stay awake until 10:30pm, keeping jet lag at bay. Was a great intro into London life! 🇬🇧     Czytaj więcej

    Exploring London - Notting Hill

    Today it was hot again! Jake and I had an easy morning and took the tube over to Notting Hill Gate. Shop windows were displaying posters looking for missing people from the recent nearby apartment tower fire.
    We checked out some of the famous Notting Hill sights including the travel book shop, blue door and the market. Notting Hill is still a favorite movie of mine! We also found the street from a scene in the movie Love Actually where the guy has the cards saying how he secretly loves Keira Knightley's character.
    We ate yummy tapas and then struggled to find, but eventually found, some city bikes to rent. We rode to the Design Museum where we saw the Designer, User, Maker exhibition which was pretty interesting.
    We cycled to Hyde Park and saw Kensington Palace and then to the Princess Diana Memorial fountain. It was full of kids dipping their toes in the cool flowing water. It looked pretty fabulous on a hot London day.
    Jake and I then cycled the rambling streets of London to meet Ali and a friend of hers at the London School of Economics to finish some of her uni card money at the pub. We had some cooling Pimms and then a beer in the park.
    The four of us then had Italian for dinner. The restaurant had a pianist who sang and got us clapping to "All you need is Love"
    We got a London double decker bus home as the jet lag started to hit me so it was home and to bed. Great day out in London!     Czytaj więcej

    Getting ready for Glastonbury

    We got up early and ran around Victoria Park. The circuit from their house is about 5km which sounded delightful but my injured foot did not like it one bit!!
    I therefore checked out the playgrounds and massive slides. There were lots of little pockets to discover in this park.
    Ali's future sister in law arrived and we then walked to Victoria Park for brunch next to the lake. The coconut kale was delicious.
    The remainder of the day was all about Glastonbury planning! We went to Westfield and Stratford where I bought a UK sim card, festival hat, sunnies and earrings. We filled our bags with glow sticks, eight bottles of spirits and a few lollipops before heading to the airport to pick up the hire car.
    Packing was tricky as we had to be able to carry it all on our back. I tried to limit myself but basically took everything as six days of rain could have been ahead of us!!     Czytaj więcej

    Glastonbury!!! Day 1

    This day has finally arrived!!! I've been wanting to go to this festival all my life and now the time has come.
    My alarm went off at 3:40am, but luckily I'm still on Melbourne time. We were picked up by Ben and Chambo and the five of us set off in the hire car.
    On the way we saw the recently burnt out Grenfell Tower and Stonehenge. It was the summer solstice so there was a bit of a party there.
    We arrived at Glastonbury pretty quickly, parked the car and started walking, carrying all our things. It was hard going in 33 degree heat and we were in a big queue for 3 hours, not pleasant!
    We found a campsite on a bit of a slope with views to the main Pyramid stage. Pretty lucky!
    After setting up our tents we went in search of a cold beer! This took us hours as not all the bars were open. But when we found it we quickly sculled two delicious cold beers in the Greenpeace area.
    We checked out the Healing Space, Craft Field, Block 9, Shangri-La, Unfairground, Sacred Space, Tipi Fields, The Park, Big Glastonbury sign, Arcadia, Cineramageddon and some of the stages. There were flags everywhere, arts works, dressed up cars, performers and many food stands.
    The sheer scale and wonder was above anything I had expected. It was just amazing!
    There were fireworks and bonfires to celebrate the opening night! Just incredible what was to come.
    We were in bed not long after dark to get some rest in preparation!     Czytaj więcej

    Glastonbury - Day 2

    We woke up in this magical land! Today there wasn't much music scheduled, so a good chance for us to explore more!
    Us three girls bought colourful jackets that will feature through out the festival, whilst the boys got themselves some meggings cat pants, hideous but fabulous fun!
    I revisited my childhood and got a hair wrap with detachable feathers on the end!
    We started drinking before heading to the Williams Green stage where The Smyths, a cover band to the Smiths were playing. Great fun! We wandered more, ate food and returned to the same stage for a secret TBA set, which turned out to be Circa Waves. We could not get near the tent but heard them play. After a scary mass movement of people, we made our way in for the next TBA act, which was Everything Everything! Fun times singing distant past! A few more fun cover bands played with banger after banger and lots of shaking it off! We met people who put UV paint on our faces! We danced till about 2am, a fair effort for our rest day!     Glastonbury - Day 3 - Radiohead

    The first big day of music!
    First band was The Pretenders 🎶 "I'll stand by you" was a big sing along! We then headed to see the Hot 8 Brass Band at the West Holts stage and ate some food.
    Next was the dreamy First Aid Kit with Emmylou, then Glass Amimals with Gooey. We listened to Royal Blood mainly from our campsite. I was surprised how good they were and how many songs I knew of theirs.
    The xx was next and we got nice and close to the Pyramid Stage - Angels, Say Something Loving and basically all their songs were big singalongs!
    Chambo and I then ran across to see Lorde play at The Other Stage. She sang in a giant container ship and had many dancers. I convinced the person behind me to go on their shoulders for Green Light!
    Next we ran across to Radiohead and got to be close to the front for Creep, The Reckoner and Karma Police.
    Then we ran to hear Major Lazer's last song, but just missed it.
    We got some drinks and headed to Arcadia. There was a giant spider with other spiders crawling up to it, and fire spurting out. Crazy! We checked out the Rabbit Hole and saw Confidence Man playing before climbing the tower, checking out the forest and somehow finding my tent. Epic day of madness and music.     Czytaj więcej

    Glastonbury - Day 4 - Foo Fighters

    Today had the bands I was most wanting to see, Katy Perry and Father John Misty!
    The first big act was Craig David and our big group of 20, loved signing to Seven Days and Walking Away. He had some new DJ side with TS5, which we all found quite hilarious.
    Then over to The Other Stage for Kaiser Chiefs and I Predict a Riot!
    Back next for my fav, Katy Perry! She belted out most of her hits such as Firework, Teenage Dream and Roar. She seemed a bit unsure that people liked her but the crowd showed her they were big fans. She wore a sparkly onsie and even went crowd surfing!
    We then raced to West Holts stage for the Avalanches, Subways and Since I Left You were great. I didn't think they were as good as when I saw them at the Falls Festival.
    We strolled back past the Pyramid Stage while catching The National sing Bloody Ohio and Terrible Love. Hell yes, this is what it's all about!!
    We got in early to The John Peel Stage for Father John Misty. Let's just say he rocked, my obsession with his music over the last year and a half was loving this. I went on Jake's shoulders for Chateau Lobby and belted out every word to it! Sheer joy here!
    We then made our way to the Pyramid Stage for the Foo Fighters. The crowd was seriously epic. There were flags everywhere, flares going off and Best Of You went on for over 10 minutes. It finished with fireworks for Everlong...big ending! They were epic and what you would expect of them!
    We then headed to check out Shangri-La armed with glow sticks and a glowing balloon. The party scene was jumping, everyone's face had glitter, over 100 band areas and DJ's. This scale is simply amazing. By 4am I had very tired feet and ventured 3km home to my tent!     Czytaj więcej

    Glastonbury - Day 5 - Ed Sheeran

    Talk about sore feet!! Wow just standing up was a world of pain.
    First gig was at the John Peel Stage for Real Estate. We then looked at the forest area where there were campfires, twisted willow sculptures and a giant boat to climb up into the trees.
    The next gig was Laura Marling on the Pyramid stage. We had some food and chilled while listening to the sweet sounds. It was then time for Barry Gibb from the BeeGees and I was excited. I didn't realise just how good he was. The crowd loved it and for me he was a highlight of the entire festival. He seemed very humble and he was close to tears as we sung along to "Stayin' Alive", "How deep is your love" and "You should be dancing". Epic of all kinds. Next we rushed over to Shaggy who Ali was most looking forward to for some "Angel", Bombastic" and "Wasn't me". We were pretty close to the front so was a fun sign-a-long.
    We raced back to the Pyramid Stage for some Chic and en route with a toilet stop I just missed out on seeing Victoria Beckham in the flesh - arghh!
    Then next act was London Grammer at the John Peel Stage, she was super impressive again, her voice is amazing and a highlight was "Maybe I'm wasting my young years". Not at the moment at least 😉
    After that we went to the Pyramid Stage for Ed Sheeran. Massive crowds and loud singing to "Shape of You" and "Galway Girl". There was old ladies on shoulders and flares filled the air. When it all ended we headed to a small stage where there was a big crush for Jamie XX, we didn't stay long as was just people pushing. We headed to the Park area for some dancing before bed.     I didn't write yesterday as I was packing up Glastonbury, driving back to London, finally having a shower and going to bed exhausted. Glastonbury was just the best thing I've done in my entire life. It was incredible how many good bands we saw, how big the place was and how many amazing things were there to discover. Epic on all scales and truly a magical place.

    On to today. I woke up very tired and sore but by lunch time Jake and I went out to explore. Checked out the monument, Tower of London and then over to Tower Bridge. Jake and I discovered that you could go up the bridge on the top and look through large pieces of glass that you could walk on. There was great views up there and I discovered that a bus has actually jumped the opening bridge, just like in the Spice Girls movie!!

    We had a drink at a pub on the Thames, then another while it started to rain... no!! It didn't stop raining so we decided on dinner at a restaurant Jake had been wanting to try - Tramshed or as I read the sign Trashed as the M was drawn as a cow you see. Ha ha! The chicken was fabulous but just a bit too big a serve for us.

    We were headed home at 7pm for an early night when Jake checked if his friend was nearby Joe or 'Happy McSunshine" as I'd heard him called. He was, so we called into a bar for many G&T's and before we knew it, our early night was after midnight. Ah holidays...     Czytaj więcej

    Slept in again, oh so tired! Jake and I were out the door by noon and got off the bus at London Bridge. It felt a bit unsettling here due to the terrorist attack just over two weeks ago. There were flower memorials set up nearby.
    As we went to cross the road we ran into three of Jake's friends who had the same plan as us. We had a delicious duck wrap and borek at the Borough Markets before making our way to Tate Modern.
    We checked out some interesting exhibitions and went up to the viewing deck for fabulous London views.
    I then met up with Jane Kitson for Indian in Brick Lane. It was great to see her and hear all about London life. It's sounding very enticing to try this out.
    I caught the overground train to meet Jake, Ben and Chambo at the Moth Club in Hackeney to see Confidence Man play for £7.50. They put on a sparkly and energetic performance to "Repeat" and "Bubblegum". Great fun and was walking distance to Jake's house!     Czytaj więcej

    Cambridge and DANE!!

    I caught the train from London to Cambridge to see Dane! Yay!! We got lunch at a pub on the canal which had beautiful views. Dane then showed me around the different prestigious Colleges with their fancy grounds and buildings. We saw the oldest bridge over the river Cam. This is where the town was named Cambridge.
    We had a drink at the Eagle Hotel where the announcement was made that they had discovered the secret of life... DNA! We looked around more colleges before heading to Dane's College - Homerton College for a drink.
    Mum, Dad and Grace then arrived for another drink at the College bar. G&T's and beers were on the menu.
    We had dinner at a North African restaurant which was delicious and very authentic before heading to bed early. The others were feeling the jet lag set in!     Czytaj więcej

    Cambridge and some punting

    Mum, Dad, Grace and I hired bikes today and rode around some beautiful parks and along the canals. We met Dane and hired a punt to experience the true Cambridge style. It wasn't too difficult to do it, just had to make sure to keep your balance and not fall in the water.
    After we had a look at some of the Colleges and beautiful grounds around them. Dane told us stories of the different Balls he had attended at the colleges. Sounds very extravagant and a fun experience for him.
    We returned the bikes and had dinner at a new pub by the railway before heading home. Jet lag was still hitting the others.     Czytaj więcej

    Cambridge for Dane's graduation!!

    We had breakfast in the apartment before heading to Dane's day of graduation celebrations. It started with champagne while they announced the prizes for the year. Dane won a prize and received £200 for getting the highest grade at his college in Law. We then had high tea in the drawing room. We ate yummy sandwhiches and cakes. After we headed out to the garden party for Pimms, Gin cocktails, Strawberries and Cream, Ice cream and Alcoholic Popsicle.
    We headed into town for the ceremony which included a procession down the Main Street and into the Senate House. The graduation ceremony had certain traditions, including it all spoken in Latin and some strange finger holding. Dane received his certificate and we were all very proud of him!
    We had some celebration drinks while sitting along the river, at the pub and then dinner. The kids then went to a house party for a friend of Dane's before heading home.     Czytaj więcej

    We packed up, left our AirBnB and drove from Cambridge to the nearby town of Grantchester.
    Dane rode his bike there and the six of us ate a delicious Sunday pub lunch. I had the pork roast with Yorkshire pudding. We checked out a nearby orchard where the Brits were lazing around under apple trees, enjoying tea and scones with jam and cream. We said our goodbyes to Dane and drove in to London.
    Mum and Dad dropped Grace and I off at Jake's house in Bethnal Green. We then walked around checking some of the nearby parks before heading to the Nettle Roof top bar for drinks. It was nice and warm today about 23 degrees.
    We had a traditional English BBQ in the park using a one use BBQ with coals. It was fun to try out and the park had a special section for BBQing. A few of Jake's housemates joined us for some Aperol Spritz and we stayed out till the sun went down. Felt typically British!!     Czytaj więcej

    It was a 5am wake up today and we were off to catch the first tube to Wimbledon. There was a crowd of people on the first train and when we joined the queue at 6:45am we were given our ticket number, 5864! We spent 5.5hours in a traditional English queue, where we napped, went shopping and waited and waited. Grace and I finally made it through with tickets about midday! What a relief!! We headed to court 16 to watch an Aussie playing great tennis in a four setter. We then found some Pimms and strawberries and cream. How very English! We looked at the pretty floral displays, the smaller hit up courts and the TV Hill viewing area. Most people attending were very dressed up. We stayed until around 8pm before catching the tube to meet Jake in Shoreditch. Mary Roubos popped in to say hello and we ate a big meal of slow cooked meats at a place called Blues Kitchen which is very trendy. We couldn't get a table until 9:30pm on a Monday night!     Magical day at Harry Potter

    I had bircher muesli for breakfast at a vegetarian cafe across the road from Jake's. Grace and I then made our way to the Harry Potter Studio Tour!! It was just so incredible and had all the sets and props from the films. We saw the Great Hall, Hogwarts Express Train, Night Rider Bus, Dumbledore's office, the castle model used in the film and we drank butter beer. We were shown the costumes and tricks used to create the magic. I even flew around on a broomstick and lashed out and bought the video of it.
    After we caught the tube to meet Jake near Oxford Street and had a drink at an English pub on the street. We met Jake's friends Bass and Maddy for dinner in Chinatown. They had been in London for one month and were settling in and trying to find jobs. We caught the bus home and went to bed, after I downloaded my video of me flying around Hogwarts!     Grace and I got up and went for a walk to Victoria Park and had breakfast at the Pavilion. I caught the bus to Stansted Airport and flew to Munich. Vera met me and we drove to Muldorf where she now lives. Marcel and Manuel were there to greet us! Manuel is very cute. He has bright blue eyes and white blonde hair. We had homemade pizza for dinner and Radler's to drink. It was lovely and warm, so we sat outside gazing at the stars. Czytaj więcej

    Vera, Manuel and I ate a delicious big breakfast before setting out on an adventure. We drove to the nearby Chimsea and the mountains nearby. We went for a walk with wonderful mountain views and afterwards stopped for lunch. We ate German sausages and apple strudel for dessert whilst looking at the view over a big lake. We drank beer and Manuel enjoyed doing a 'Prost' with us. We drove to a beach bar at the lake and went for a swim as it was a very hot, 32 degrees. We enjoyed a beer on the beach before driving back to Muldorf. Ingrid joined us for a BBQ dinner of beef and pork with vegetables. We sat outside again and ate watermelon before going to bed!     Vera, Manuel and I ate a lovely breakfast before heading in to town to buy chocolate and pretzels. We had a lovely walk around and tried out the play equipment at a park. Rainer and Ingrid then picked me up and we drove to Munich airport. Mira, her boyfriend and Felix met us for a drink in the beer garden. My flight was delayed a bit so we had more time to hang out. I flew to Bordeaux, met the family and we drove into town for dinner. We had a delicious three course meal before looking around at the sights.     We ate a quick breakfast, then headed off in our van to St Emilion. We walked around the UNESCO city before stopping for a picnic style lunch in the gardens of the cloisters. We drove to a nearby winery where we had a tour and wine tasting. On the way to the Chateau, we stopped at the Inter Hyper Mache for food and drinks, a big shopping experience.
    On arriving at La Roque-Gageac we saw our Chataeu perched in front of a mountain and just wow!! It was huge and looked amazing!! It had many levels, rooms decorated with antlers, chandeliers, old paintings and fireplaces. There was a pool, a large balcony for dinner, dinning room and gardens. We had French champagne and cheese to celebrate arriving and we enjoyed French wine with our steak dinner! There was fireworks nearby and everything was simply stunning and surreal!     Sunday at the Chateau

    I walked to the boulangerie this morning and bought croissants. Mum and Dad picked up Greg and we ate a yummy breakfast. We headed out to a nearby town to check out the market and buy more cheese and wine. We enjoyed a delicious feast for lunch, sitting on the balcony.
    We lounged around having drinks by the pool before preparing dinner. We ate dinner on the balcony and enjoyed looking at the stars.     Czytaj więcej

    Monday at the Chateau

    We went for a walk around the back of town and then home to have croissants for breakfast.
    We went to the market in Saint-Cyprien where we bought yummy cheeses, salamis, material to make our Tour de France sign, wine, roast chicken and ventured home for a lunch feast.
    We then drove to pick up Nick from Bergerac while checking out all the Tour de France decorations. We had another stop at the Inter Mâché hyper to stock up supplies. Grace, Ali and I made lots of flowers in the car for decorations.
    Once home we got to work on making the big six metre sign saying "Get Well Richie", "Aussie Aussie Aussie" and "#porte2018" using spray paint. It looked great!
    We ate in the dinning room as it had been raining. A feast with chicken bits, pork skewers, greens, mushrooms and garlic bread.     Czytaj więcej

    Le Tour de France

    We did a short walk to town to check out the Tour de France set up and the souvenirs. Breakfast was our favorite croissants!! We hung the sign from the balcony - "Go Richie". We also hung all the flowers we'd made on the balconies.
    The first excitement for the day was the parade of caravans coming through town. It was lots of fun! There was big floats and vans playing loud music and throwing out free things (junk). We tried to catch as much as we could.
    Lunch was another feast of fresh baguettes, cheeses, salamis, mussels and nachos.
    There was a lot of excitement with helicopters flying overhead and then the race came through. We all stood on the balcony with our sign up, madly waving at the helicopter. After we ran down and saw the last of the support cars pass through.
    Dad and Greg went and cut down some of the Tour de France signs. We looked back at the television footage and saw that we had made it on the TV! We also heard from people back in Melbourne that they saw us waving. It was very exciting for us all!
    We had a feast of ribs and vegetables for dinner! We sat in the sitting room and did the quiz before heading to bed.     Czytaj więcej

    Wednesday at the Chateau

    Dad, Greg, Dane and I went for a walk down along the river to the caravan park. We ended up back in town for a coffee at the bakery. We ate croissants for breakfast before heading into the market at Sarlat. There was a traffic jam getting there, but the market was quite interesting with stalls selling cheeses, salamis and other goods. I bought the most expensive olive dip ever. We returned home for a lunch feast and had scallops as an added treat. We chilled out by the pool for the late afternoon.
    We ate pizzas for dinner and walnut cake for dessert whilst sitting on the balcony.     Czytaj więcej
