      A day of church's

      February 13, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 8 °C

Today was my day off so I decided to try and be busy.

The tower captain in hobart invited me to join them at their secondary church to ring in the morning. It is a Jewish Orthodox church now but was once an Anglican church. Beautiful interior and some pretty nice bells. They ring sort of funny but not bad.

There were some cool buildings opposite that I really liked. And another church close by.

Then sat about and had a muffin and berocca while I planned. Wrote a few emails and tried to finalise my east coast plans.

Made some quesadillas for dinner. Tomato cause, cheese and fake chicken. Very nice.

Then had ringing again this evening. We rang a touch of Bob which I haven't done in forever. So very proud of myself for that.

Got back to the hostel and found out the new fridges were up and running. They are only for long termers so I now have a lovely clean fridge spot, that doesn't smell like fish and has a lot of space.

      Chardonnay H3 (Hobart, Tasmania)

      February 22 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 32 °C

Last time I was here, was for INTERHASH 2000. The Chardonnay H3 set the Red Dress run for well over 1000 hashers back then. This time we gathered at 1300 on a Thursday, and the local hash put on a trail for us, which was very kind. Trail started from the “Hope & Anchor Tavern” that is the oldest continuously licensed pub in Australia. Prices were not old though, beer was $14 AUD, and the soda was $8.50 . . . yowser.

At the appropriate time, the hares called us all together on the street for a quick chalk talk, and off we went. Runners enjoyed a 9 km trail (walkers got 5) that headed out of town passing the war memorial, and then out through a park. Some people thought it was too hot out at 33 C, but felt quite normal to me.

As the pack started returning to the pub after trail, we eventually circled up for a few down downs. The hares had to get back to work, but a few locals were able to hang out with as we circled up. We had a fun circle with several good songs, and then back to the floating hotel. On On to three days of open seas as we head to New Zealand, next stop Dunedin on Monday.

La Tasmanie, une destination hors route

      February 17, 2016 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

      Hobart

      October 9, 2015 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

No a pred prohlidkou (opet free) Hobart Museum a Art Gallery (vstup zdarma) jsem stihla i botanickou zahradu.

Day 4 - Launceston to Hobart

      February 16, 2023 in Australia

For something a bit different, we chose to return to Hobart via the East Coast, somewhere I hadn't been before. My dad always said it was his favourite part of Tassie, so had to see what he was on about.

The day started fairly slowly. After we checked out, we walked to City Park, mainly to see the Japanese Macaques that live there. Before we got to see them, we had to stop at the large conservatory, jam-packed with plants 🪴, followed by way too long admiring the well maintained garden beds. The monkeys are fun to watch but, as time was ticking, we needed to move on.

After a quick look at the local shops and some takeaway breakfast, it was off to Hobart, the long way. We diverted to Ben Lomond National Park, which was well worth it.

Heading east from there brought a surprise as we ended up on a gravel road for around 50km. Whilst it was a beautiful drive through the forest, it did slow us down a bit.

We arrived at the east coast before heading south towards Bicheno. Dad used to tell me how much he liked it there and I can see why. It's a cosy little spot and seems to be a great place to relax.

There were no more stops between there and Hobart and it'sa really nice drive with plenty to look at. Unfortunately, we arrived just on peak time and got stuck in a bit of traffic making our way to the hotel.

Overall, a nice drive, albeit a bit longer than expected. It was nice to get into the hotel room and relax, topped off with some KFC for dinner.

(For some reason, the tracker wasn't working on the app. Fortunately, Jen's was working, so I've included a screenshot for reference)
