      Mangos

      Letzte Woche haben wir 3 Tage Weintrauben gepflückt und sind Sonntag 400 km nach Norden gefahren zu unserem neuen Mango-Job. Hier wohnen wir in Moora, einem 2000 Einwohner Dorf auf einem kleinen Campingplatz.
      Die Farm ist 20 min entfernt und riesig. Wir werden jeden Morgen mit einem kleinen Bus zu den Feldern gebracht die wir pflücken. Die Arbeit ist eigentlich ganz okay. Wir fangen schon um 5:15 an und pflücken dann so 8-10 Stunden. Wenn die Sonne aufgegangen ist wird es immer extrem anstrengend, weil es jeden Tag über 35 Grad hat und wir mit langärmeliger Kleidung arbeiten, weil man von dem Mangosaft Ausschlag und Blasen bekommt wenn er auf die Haut kommt. Aber wie verdienen ziemlich gut und haben hoffentlich in spätestens drei Wochen genug Geld um weiter zu reisen.
      An meinem Geburtstag mussten wir auch arbeiten, aber die anderen haben mir einen Pfannkuchen-Kuchen zum Frühstück gemacht 😊 Die zwei Tage danach hatten wir frei weil die Packmaschine der Farm kaputt war und wir sind zu zwei Freunden aus Perth gefahren, die eine Stunde entfernt von uns arbeiten und haben auf dem Campingplatz von denen noch nachgefeiert 😊      Read more

      Mango-Rash

      Wir sind immer noch am arbeiten und wenn es nicht so heiß ist, ist das pflücken auch total okay. Vor ein paar Tagen hat sich unser Traktorfahrer beim Mango-Weitwurf seinen Nacken gezerrt und da ich die einzige war, die schonmal auf einem Traktor gesessen ist, war ich den restlichen Tag Fahrer :)
      Vorgestern hatten wir einen freien Tag und sind nach Perth gefahren um uns neue Autoreifen und andere Sachen für den Westküstentrip zu holen. Nächsten Sonntag ist die Mango-Saison zu Ende und wir fahren endlich los.
      Ich bin extrem froh darüber, weil es mich mit dem 'Mango-Rash', dem Ausschlag vom Mangosaft trotz länger Ärmel doch voll erwischt hat. Am Anfang waren es nur ein paar juckende Stellen am Arm, was fast Jeder hat, aber mittlerweile hat es sich bei mir über den ganzen Körper ausgebreitet und ist angeschwollen. Nachdem Cremes und Allergietabletten nicht geholfen haben und heute morgen mein Gesicht auch rot war und mein Auge geschwollen, bin ich statt zur Arbeit zum Arzt gegangen. Die Campingplatz Besitzerin hier hat sich super süß um mich gekümmert und für mich den Termin vereinbart.
      Hab Cortison Creme bekommen und die Ärztin meine ich soll nicht mehr arbeiten gehen. Aber mindestens eine Woche werde ich schon noch irgendwie durchhalten😊      Read more

      Perth&Delfintour

      Hier in Perth machen wir immer noch meistens nichts besonders spannendes. Wir wohnen in einem sehr süßen kleinen Hostel, in dem wir uns wie zuhause fühlen weil die meisten Leute hier schon länger da sind und wir uns mit allen angefreundet haben. Der Hostelbesitzer kümmert sich total nett um uns und hat uns z.b. sehr günstig zu viert in einem Doppelzimmer mit Matratzen auf dem Boden schlafen lassen, weil wir sonst umziehen hätten müssen weil es ausgebucht war.
      Ich hab mir ein paar Friseurvideos angeschaut und dem halben Hostel die Haare geschnitten. Sonst suchen wir nach Jobs und abends sitzen wir meistens auf der Terrasse und malen, trinken oder schauen Filme.
      Gestern hab ich mit Jette eine Delfintour gemacht. Mit dem Boot hat man dabei Delfingruppen gesucht und dann konnte man ins Wasser zum schnorcheln. Die waren teilweise auch so nah, dass man sie berühren hätte können. 😊      Read more

      Bushwalk & co

      Bobtail Lizards überqueren gerne Straßen mit dem warmen roten Sand. Zur Warnung strecken sie ohne Ton die blau-schwarze Zunge entgegen. Nachts werde ich vom Froschkonzert in den Schlaf begleitet. Habe bei der Fütterung der schwarzen Kakadus hautnah zugesehen. Die Weibchen haben schwarze Augen,die Männchen rote.Read more

      Up fairly early with a walk to the roadhouse to use the loo and buy a fresh loaf of bread from the monastery. It was really yum.
      After brekky, we did a walk around some of the farm land and along the Moore River. Not much water in the river.
      Headed to Moora just up the road. Booked in at the local caravan park, to make sure we could charge up fully and load up with water.
      Had a good walk around the town. Some good murals painted on several buildings. Some war memorials around town as well.
      Again, not much water in the river - a far cry from 20 years ago when Fabs was up here with Apex, helping the locals combat and recover from the floods.
      There is a very nice pool next to the caravan park, but unfortunately closed, so once again I could not get some laps in.
      The CP is small but good amenities and clean. Very friendly caretaker who somehow knew my name!

      Left Carnamah camp and parked up to try and locate more wildflowers in the village. Overnight rain dampened the dust and cooled the air. The campground was really good by the way. After a wander around we found nothing new so headed south 120km to Moora. We had 120km of wheat fields! We have no idea what we will find in these small towns except that they are a surprise for us.

      Moora is the WA wheatbelt's largest service town. It's a clean but small town well looked after. We are staying at the very small council campground looked after by Shirley the caretaker. It is also very tidy and friendly. We made good use of the free washing machines.

      We spent the afternoon checking out the town then a larger walk to Candy's Bush reserve. This is a large area with a lot of different native orchids. They hide well as we saw none! There are also Carnabys Black cockatoos which are endangered. Didn't see any of those either. So a 6km walk was good for the thirst at least. Ironically 3 black cockatoos flew past as we returned to the campground.

      The weather is now calm and warm but once we get to Perth at the end of the week we are in for a shock with forecasted rain and cool temperatures.      Read more

      Moora again

      Today feels like our last day on our tourist part of our holiday as tomorrow we arrive in Perth where we get back to rekindling old friendships. It's been over 6 years since we left and so much has changed in the city and the lives of the people we left behind.

      A quiet start with light rain early then the town heated up to a humid and windy 25 degrees. A walk down the river track to town then a book read back at the van. After lunch a circuit around the outlying villages in the ute ended up well over 100km of travel. We must check the scale of our maps! Ended with a small walk in a local reserve which is set up just for tourists to be harassed by bushflies.

      We tried the local pub for an evening meal. Very large helpings so a walk back to the caravan was welcome. The country pubs are always good to see the locals. A few farmers in jeans and airtex type attire shows we are in the country.

      Bushfly facts:
      They are suckers, not biters
      They want your saliva, sweat etc, not blood.
      They are officially not a pest as they don't spread diseases or adversely affect livestock. ( I beg to differ. They are a right nuisance!)
      They are not repelled by insect repellent (much to my disappointment)
      They are useful as they can pollinate plants. Wow... I found something positive about them.      Read more
