    Weiterfahrt nach Streaky Bay

    Nach den letzten Tagen in Port Lincoln hatten wir genug von hier und waren froh heute die Weiterreise anzutreten. Nachdem wir den Campingplatz hinter uns gelassen haben ging Laura noch in den Waschsalon und ich kümmerte mich um das Problem mit unserer Gasflasche. Das Ende vom Lied war, dass das neue Ventil für unsere aktuelle Flasche genau so viel wie eine neue Flasche gekostet hätte. Daher haben wir die alte Flasche entsorgt und eine Neue gekauft. Als das erledigt war ging es noch zum Einkaufen und zum Tanken bevor wir dann losfahren konnten. Erster Stop war der Winter Hill Aussichtspunkt, von dem man einen schönen Ausblick über Port Lincoln und das Umland hatte. Danach ging es noch zum Coffin Bay Nationalpark, allerdings fiel der Stop hier kurz aus, da es mal wieder regnete. Also ging es weiter an der Südküste lang bis wir als nächstes in Venus Bay ankamen. Davor mussten wir nochmal kurz einen Nothalt einlegen, da es durch den Regen und den starken Wind den Scheibenwischer verbogen hatte. Also gerade biegen und weiter geht's. In Venus Bay haben wir erstmal Platz für querende Emus gemacht bevor wir dann am Strand einen Schwarm Pelikane aus nächster Nähe beobachten konnten. Anschließend ging es nochmal ein Stück weiter bis Streaky Bay wo wir heute übernachten. Dort wurde noch gekocht und im Sonnenuntergang am Strand zu Abend gegessen bevor es jetzt ins Bett geht.Baca lagi

    Elliston& Perlubie Beach, Australia

    Am 04.04.2018 ging es nach einem herrlichen Start in den Tag vom "Greenly Beach" aus weiter zum "Locks Well Beach", an dem wir nur kurz verweilten. Unser nächster Halt war "Elliston", hier gab es einen schönen Aussichtspunkt über die Küste, wonach wir schnell ein ruhiges Plätzchen für den Tag und die Nacht gefunden hatten. Wir nahmen ein Bad im Meer, hatten eine herrliche, natürlich kalte, Dusche und absolute Ruhe, da in diesem Städtchen so wirklich gar nichts los war.
    Ganz entspannt starteten wir in den Morgen des 05.04.2018 und fuhren dann weiter zur "Venus Bay", wo wir einen tollen "Coastal Walk" unternehmen konnten. Nachdem wir uns die Beine ein wenig vertreten hatten, konnte das nächste Ziel "Streaky Bay" angesteuert werden. Hier hatte es uns allerdings nicht gefallen und auch ein Schlafplatz ließ sich hier nicht finden. Daher blieb uns nichts anderes übrig, als weiterzufahren und etwas geeigneteres zu suchen, was wir schließlich am "Perlubie Beach" fanden. Direkt bis ans Meer konnten wir mit unserem Balu fahren, hier ließ es sich aushalten - herrlicher Sandstrand lud zum Baden ein und am nächsten Morgen, dem 06.04.2018, durfte Yoga und Morgensport am Strand nicht fehlen.     Nullarbor - Streaky Bay (Jour 18)

    Ce matin, nous avons la chance d'admirer le soleil se lever face aux falaises du 'Nullarbor' - depuis le confort de notre lit. Un privilège.

    Nous quittons les lieux en début de matinée, et nous arrêtons 2-3 fois pour apprécier quelques points de vues et couper le trajet prévu (de 6h).

    Nous profitons de faire une halte à 'Cactus Beach' avant de déjeuner, puis passons la 'douane d'inspection de marchandise' à Ceduna.
    Nous ne savions pas non plus qu'il y en avait une ! Résultat des courses, ils nous jettent nos fruits et légumes (dont un fruit de la passion !. ..) pour éviter tout risque de contamination (en particulier du 'fruitfly').

    Nous faisons une dernière halte à 'Smoky bay', un petit village de pêcheur, en espérant pouvoir manger des huîtres. En effet, toute la région de 'l'Eyre Peninsula' que nous allons faire les prochains jour est réputée pour ces huîtres et autres fruits de mer.
    Par contre, il est déjà 18h30... Donc clairement plus l'heure d'acheter des fruits de mer.
    Par chance, nous tombons sur un vendeur d'huîtres fraîche (fermé depuis 16h, mais encore sur place avec un ami) qui nous vend, ouvre et prépare sur un joli plateau une magnifique douzaine d'huître - pour à peine 16$ (12 CHF)!

    Nous rejoignons notre campement pour la nuit, sur la très jolie 'Perlubie Beach'. Le spot est magnifique mais pas très "2 roues motrices friendly". Nous restons coincé au moins 5 fois dans le sable (sans exagéré) - heureusement tout le monde est super gentil et nous aide à pousser. Comme le dit si bien un des campeurs "ça fait partie du voyage"!
    Quelques embourbades plus tard donc, nous voilà enfin face à la mer, huîtres et vin sur la table, prêt pour le coucher de soleil.

    Perlubie Beach

    Only a little further north to Perlubie Beach. Having seen this spot on many You Tube videos we were really looking forward to camping on the beach again. The drive on to the beach was very firm and the sand itself not soft but rather gritty. We didn't even bother to drop the tyre pressure at all. Still school holidays here and the beach was busy but certainly not chockers. Possibly 50 or so camps along but it is a very long beach. We found a nice spot and setup to watch the tide roll in. Except it didn't. Apparently because of how the moon phase was the daytime tide was only really small while the night high tide was large. Went for a walk out into the sparkling clear water and then a hike up the beach. It's a beautiful spot. Typical of these beaches though, when the tide goes out, it goes way out. A long walk out for a swim.
    Unhitched the car from the van and moved it back after advice from others that it may be a close thing for the night tide. Glad we did. A spectaculr sunset finished off a great day at this magical spot.    Baca lagi

    Streaky Bay

    Further north along the stunning Eyre Peninsular west coast. On the way we passed Murphy's Haystacks which are basically some rocks in a paddock 🤷‍♂️. And they wanted $2 to walk through a gate to see them. A photo from the road sufficed. A bit further north we stopped at Streaky Bay RV Park. Another basic facilities park that is run by the local community. As a coincidenvce we watched an episode of Back Roads that visited Streaky Bay and heard about the very active community that runs the hotel and the local GP surgery. When the tuna fishing boats dissapeared the town was almost destroyed but have reinvented themselves as a holiday destination. We explored the area by walking along the foreshore and through the town in spite of the ever present wind.Baca lagi

    Streaky Bay, Eyre Peninsula

    Our time on the Eyre Peninsula coincided with a cold front and strong winds pulling through. While it wasn’t the snorkelling paradise that we had hoped for, we were gifted beautiful blue skies and had a great time visiting the sights in and around Streaky Bay.

    First stop were the Whistling Rocks and Blowholes, at the end of a 360m boardwalk through the sand dunes on the Cape Bauer Loop. Next, we wandered through (and over) Murphys Haystacks, impressively large 1500-million-year-old granite rock formations (Inselberg) located on an inland farm.

    Then off to see the Australian mainland’s only permanent colony of sea lions at the Point Labatt Conservation Park. The sea lions sunning on the rocks put on a great show for us, moving in and out of the water and rolling around on the rocks.

    We relaxed while watching the surfers at the beautiful, rocky Granites beach and then headed back to Streaky Bay to eat ice cream and wander down the long jetty for a swim.    Baca lagi

    Streaky Bay

    Arrived at Streaky Bay via Smoky Bay where we picked up a dozen freshly shucked oysters for $17. Staying at Foreshore Carsvan Pk which is really nice and right on the Bay.Went for a drive to Cape Bauer- nice coastline. Another couple of drives Pt Labatt where you see a Sea Lion colony and Murphy's Haystacks. Also did the Westall Way loop drive which has some nice bays. Tried to book swimming with sea lions and dolphins out of Baird Bay but fully booked a week in advance so no go. Went to the Streaky Bay Cup and whilst we didn't win overall still had a really good day. The best horse I backed won the race then dumped the rider jumped the outside fence and headed over the hills towards town.Baca lagi

    A summer day

    When the sun is hitting it's a warm drive reminding us keep our eyes up for water, and today that search was not as easy, but a "visitor" look around a caravan park eventually helped us out.
    Enyoing this beautiful summer day we climbed more sand dunes chasing lakes and ocean. A cliff by the end of an unsealed road with not a single breeze made the stop for tonight, allowing us to comfortably semi-shower before the evening wind brought in the high tide and slowed down our cooking because the stove is dying and need extra help in the wind.Baca lagi

    Streaky Bay

    Nach einer ruhigen Nacht auf einem netten Übernachtungsplatz neben der Straße, die nicht wirklich befahren war und einem netten längeren Plausch mit einem australischen Paar, sind wir noch zu den Dünen und zu einem Salzsee. Danach ging es nach Streaky Bay wo wir auf einem Campingplatz einen schönen Platz ergattert haben. Auf der Türe zu den Duschen und Toiletten wird darauf hingewiesen, dass man doch gefälligst auf Schlangen aufpassen soll. So ist das halt in Australien. Nach dem Zeltbau sind wir in die "City" und zum Jetty spaziert. Es ist hier etwas windig, aber ungemein warm. Je nach Witterung werden wir einige Tage bleiben.Baca lagi
