The flight on SW was uneventful, but when we arrives in Los Cabos and took a shuttle to the car rental place the fun started. We booked the car on website booking.com from Hertz. The sales clerk would not give me a car for the price I booked. He quoted three times more expensive.
I told him goodbye and we took Uber to the resort.
On the way to our resort we had to detour to pick up driver’s sister. Because of that the cost of the ride was almost twice the original price.
Oh, well. The conversation was good.

After we checked in, we took a local shuttle to the restaurant. The dinner was delicious.

Heute heißt es den Tag in Cabo San Lucas verbringen bis wir heute Abend auf das Schiff dürfen. 12 Uhr müssen wir das Hotel räumen und dann werden wir unser Gepäck zur Basis fahren lassen und die restliche Zeit in Cabo San Lucas diversen Kneipen verbringen 😂 ziemliche Party Town zumindest haben wir das bis heute Morgen um 5 Uhr gehört 🙈En savoir plus

Strand und Party in Cabo San Lucas

Wir erwachen in unserem Luxuszelt zu Vogelgezwitscher und zum ersten Mal hören wir auch leichte Regengeräusche. Nach kurzer Zeit ist das Wetter aber wie immer, nämlich strahlend blauer Himmel und Sonnenschein.

Wir machen uns auf den Weg ins 1 Fahrstunde entfernte Städchen Cabo San Lucas, das anscheinend ein geschäftiger Hotspot in der Region sein soll. Und tatsächlich erwartet uns der geschäftigste Traumstrand den wir uns vorstellen können. Tausende Amerikaner geniessen hier All-Inclusive Spring Break, donnernde Bässe dröhnen aus den Strandbars und die Einheimischen wittern an jeder Ecke ein Geschäft.

Für uns geht es mit einem kleinen Boot raus zu Land's End, einer Felsformation am südlichsten Teil von Baja California wo sich der Pazifik und Sea of Cortez treffen. Hier bestaunen wir den berühmten Felsbogen El Arco und weitere Felsen, denen die Einheimischen allerlei Mythen zuschreiben. Dann werden wir fernab vom Partytreiben an einem Strand abgesetzt und erkunden mit der gemieteten Schnorchelausrüstung die umliegenden Felsriffe, wo es sich Pellikane und Seelöwen gemütlich gemacht haben. Wir entdecken unterschiedlichste Fische vom Flötenfisch bis Pufferfisch und staunen nicht schlecht, als wenige Meter vor uns ein Seelöwe ins Wasser springt.

Zurück in Todos Santos schlendern wir mit dem Sonnenuntergang noch durch die Strassen und beginnen zu verstehen, wieso es das Label Pueblo Magico, magisches Dorf, verdient. Wir bereiten im Hostel wieder Fajitas als Abendessen zu und lassen den Tag mit anderen Hostelgästen und einer Partie Schach ausklingen.En savoir plus

Day 15: Cabo San Lucas, Old School Tri-X

Back in the mid-seventies I attended Massachusetts College of Art, in Boston as a photography major. These pictures I took in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo had more of an “old school” feel for me. Brought back some pleasant memories for me.

I remember spending most of the day with my old Canon Rangefinder, 28mm wide angle lens, with 6 to 8 rolls of 35mm Tri-X film in my pockets - walking around the likes of Kenmore & Copley Square, as well as, treacherous journeys into the feared Combat Zone of Boston.

After a day of shooting, I would head back to school develop the rolls of film in the negative lab. While the film hung to; dry I went and had a sandwich at the shop across the street. Then the rest of the night was in the darkroom with a 6-pack or two of beer in the print washer while several of us spent countless hours printing up the shots of the day - to be presented in class the next morning. There were many nights we slept on the darkroom floor because we missed the train home and had an early class in the morning anyway.

I believe sometimes color distracts from the story - It’s good to go “ole’ school” once in a while. Please enjoy these images Black & White images of our day in Cabo San Lucas Mexico.

Thirty years ago we vacationed here with friends. We were five months pregnant with our son, Ian. As the only one not drinking and able to drive a stick shift we explored the area all the way up to La Paz. It was a beautiful sleepy area then. We arrived in Cabo about an hour and a half early.
Cabo is a tender port.
I am happy to report that we had the most rocking and rolling last night to date.
We went to the World Cafe for breakfast and/or coffee.
Our tour was to meet in the Star Theatre by 10 AM so we headed there at about 9:30. By 10:10 AM we were headed to the tenders.
We had an amazing tour called "Whale Watching in the Sea of Cortez". Although we did not technically make it to the sea of Cortez, we saw a ton of whale activity. The younger whales have just recently been born. They are practicing breaching. We saw mothers breach followed by the baby breaching. They were also slapping their fins against the water. It was hard to get good photos because the seas were a bit rough which I thoroughly enjoyed. Our boat was a larger boat and wanted to keep its distance from the whales so as to not frighten them. I will post more pictures after I have a chance to process the photos that we took on our cameras. In the meantime, I will post one that I took with my phone.
After the whale watching, Bob and I walked around the marina and headed to one of our favorite restaurants in Cabo, The Office. We soon had a margarita in hand, feet in the sand, and we're eating chips, pico de Gallo, guacamole, calamari, and coconut shrimp.
After lunch, we caught a water taxi back to the other side of the marina. We bought a couple of hats before heading to the ship's tender for the ride back to the ship.
It was a perfect day in Cabo.
Now for dinner at the Chef's Table.
Chef's table tonight featured Asian Panorama with Peking Duck. It was good but we preferred the Xiang menu.En savoir plus

Das Wahrzeichen vom Cabo San Lucas ist der 62 Meter hohe Felsen El Arco am südlichen Ende der Halbinsel Baja California.

Die Baja California ist bekannt für frühere Rallymeisterschaften. Der VW Käfer feierte hier als umgebaute Offroad-version größere Erfolge.

Während der El Arco bei Ebbe durch einen Strandspaziergang von der nahegelegenen Playa del Amor ( Strand der Liebenden) erreichbar ist, versinkt der ihn umgebende Sandstrand bei Flut im Pazifik.

Es war unglaublich trocken und heiß, die Vegetation sehr kark.

Wir fanden in Mexiko einen wunderschönen Strand, der Sand schön sauber, nur wenig Menschen weil meterhohe Wellen. Wir fanden viele frisch geschlüpfte Meeresschildkröten die vor Hitze fast ausgetrocknet waren. Alex hat sie vorsichtig Richtung Meer getragen. Wir drücken den kleinen fest die Daumen! Unsere Recherchen ergaben, dass es sich wahrscheinlich um Unechte Karettschildkröte handelt. Diese unterscheiden sich von Echten Karettschildkröten dadurch, dass sie fünf Paar Hornschilde besitzen, keine vier. Die Unechte Karettschildkröte ist eine Vertreterin der Meeresschildkröten und stellt wahrscheinlich die bekannteste und die häufigste dieser Gruppe dar. Die meisten Erkenntnisse über Meeresschildkröten im Allgemeinen stammen aus Forschungsarbeiten über diese Art.

Am Hafen schliefen auch wieder ein paar Seelöwen, man riecht sie immer schon von Weitem 🤭 später sahen wir auch wie sie auf den Wellen der Boote ritten.En savoir plus

Los Cabos – Ein kurzer Stopp im amerikanischen Paradies

Um die Flugkosten so gering wie möglich zu halten, war unser Aufenthalt in Los Angeles nicht mehr als ein logistischer Zwischenstopp. Gerade genug Zeit, um ein Auto zu mieten, schnell etwas zu essen und noch um 23:00 Uhr einen Waschsalon aufzusuchen – und am nächsten Morgen ging’s um 7 Uhr wieder weiter zum Flughafen.

Mit Mexiko als nächstem Ziel stehen insgesamt drei Stopps auf dem Plan. Unser erstes Ziel: die Südpitze der Baja-California-Halbinsel. Los Cabos – ein echtes Urlaubsparadies, allerdings hauptsächlich für Amerikaner. Also fühlt es sich fast so an, als hätten wir die USA gar nicht wirklich verlassen. Anderer Ort, gleiche Leute.

Bei angenehmen Temperaturen haben wir eine kleine Bootstour entlang der Küste gemacht und ein wenig Sonne getankt. Der berühmte El Arco de Cabo San Lucas, eine Felsformation, markiert den Punkt, an dem der Pazifik auf das Meer von Cortez trifft. Ganz in der Nähe liegen der Lovers Beach und der Divorce Beach – zwei Strände mit fragwürdigen Namen und schöner Kulisse. Sogar Waale konnten wir vom Strand aus sehen.

Ein paar entspannte Stunden am Pool, Lunch mit Billard und ein paar Drinks waren dann auch zeitlich noch drinnen. Ein kurzer, aber schöner Stopp – und morgen geht’s weiter ins Herz Mexikos, um nach langer Zeit, alte Bekannt wiederzutreffen.En savoir plus
