      East Side Gallery

      13. november 2023, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Next, I hopped off at the East Side Gallery. A 1316m continous section of Berlin Wall on the Spree banks, now an open air art gallery with the murals painted directly onto the Wall, which I walked with a cuppa break needed from the cold 🥶

A few of my favourites, including famous socialist 💋 designed to show onlookers that 'Our relationship is closer than that between capitalist countries. It is not about who profits; it's based on humanity, love, and peace.'

Dishonest like the rest of the talk about brotherhood, with the Eastern bloc held together by force - and everybody knew it.

      Festival dag 1

      1. marts, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

      Berlin — Friedrichshain

      26. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 75 °F

The East Side Gallery had the exhibit I was looking for. Their multimedia presentation inside gives you a timeline of events from 1945 to 1989. They use interviews with East German guards and escapees — some successful and some who failed and were imprisoned. News reels bring you through the years with speeches from Kennedy, Reagan, Gorbachev, and Kohl. They present you with a barrage of video from the days leading up to the wall coming down, and then three glorious rooms devoted to the November day when the people flooded the Brandenburg Gate. Then you take a walk along a stretch of wall they have preserved which has been transformed by artists into a series of murals. It sits right along the Spree river that cuts through the city and it has a park-like setting. It was packed with people. Clearly one of Berlin’s biggest attractions. I think Berlin should be a celebration, and not just a memorial, and this place captures that feeling.Læs mere

      Berlin

      14. november 2023, Tyskland ⋅ 🌬 12 °C

      Checking out the wall:

Visited the Berlin Wall Memorial site and the east side gallery, while being able to walk through both sides of the city and seeing the rugged beauty of the city.

Fun fact of the day: Berlin construction workers seem to listen to a lot of 'Men at Work' songsLæs mere

      East Side Gallery

      14. december 2022, Tyskland ⋅ ☀️ 27 °F

A single piece of art is a beautiful reflection of the inner expression of an artist. But when a group of artists come together around a common cause it’s amazing how radically different reflections can create a beautiful mirage of imagination. Today we visited the East Side Gallery, which did just that.

This mile long stretch of the Berlin Wall was designated a couple days after the fall as a public art space for artists. In 1990, a group of 120 artists from 21 countries got together to paint beautiful expressions of their view of the world.

When we arrived, our initial reaction was that the paintings looked way to good to be there from 1990. After some quick research, our suspicions were confirmed. The wall had been redone in 2009 where the original wall was patched and the art work was repainted.

This change was immediately clear to Anthony who had been to this wall shortly after its opening in 1990. Each art piece was still beautiful and expressive but it wasn’t the original. In fact, only one artwork was still original. No one stopped to take pictures of this piece. The artwork wasn’t bright and colorful but instead was full of chips and cracks. Yet this was the piece that was unaltered and full of artists original reflection.

99% of people walk by thinking these are the original. They don’t think twice about the email addresses and websites stenciled in the bottom. They don’t see the small messages about the polar ice caps melting or election fraud added during the renovation. History doesn’t last forever. While it may be around to be seen in books or online, the physical attributes of great moments slip away day after day. Listening to Anthony pointing out the differences between the original gallery and this recreation goes to show a harsh truth: History slowly changes and the original reminders of our past slowly fade. Experience history while you can before it’s too late to notice the original vs the “renovation”.

      Berlin Wall

      2. april 2023, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 6 °C

I love the street art that is sprawled all over the city of Berlin, even the street art that clearly hasn't been commissioned by the local councils still attracted my eyes. There was an enormous apartment wall near where we stayed that was painted pale orange and then a beautiful painting of a brown bear hugging a child over that back drop - I loved looking at it each day we started our walking adventures through Berlin.

Day 3 in Berlin we walked to the last part of the Berlin Wall left standing, on the eastern side of the wall there is amazing street art, created by artists from all over the world. We took our time absorbing and interpreting the message that each artist had created. Most of this artwork was painted in 1990, the year after the wall came down. They stand as a memorial to the reunification of Germany and to a broader moment of globally significant political change.

      Potsdam - Sanssouci palace

      10. juni 2023, Tyskland ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

In the morning, we had breakfast and went to nearby city Potsdam, where a beautiful summer palace of King of Prussia, Frederick the Great is located. The famous Sanssouci palace. It had a unique exuberant Rococo style. Especially memorable was the Grotto hall, which was all covered in stunning shells and fossils. King Frederick was an interesting character, a lover of art and books, he also loved dogs. So he was buried next to his many dogs, and people bring potatoes to his graves, because he was the one who brought potatoes from South America to Europe! And in the evening we went to Tangoloft - a beautiful tango Nuevo place!Læs mere

      Dia 4:Berlin

      10. juli 2023, Tyskland ⋅ 🌬 27 °C

Primero entraron dani y Mario y luego fuimos a entrar yoyo y yo.
