      27. Bali, Canggu

      October 14, 2023 in Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

      Seminyak, Bali

      August 28, 2022 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

We arrived in Bali following a delayed flight from Cambodia to Kuala Lumpar then on to Bali. Wanting to relax for the first few days we booked into a nice beachfront hotel (finally checking in early hours at 4am) with a swimming pool and to be honest that’s all we did for the first few days - relaxed in the sun. It was really nice to slow down a little after a busy couple of months travelling. Unable to surf we hired out bodyboards and took to the waves Bali is known for, albeit a lesser known surf spot. Great fun although we definitely got battered by some pretty big waves.

Bali is also known for its amazing sunsets but unfortunately we haven't been too lucky with mostly cloud cover. At night the many bars lining the beach front pull out hundreds of bean bags, tables and lights such that the atmosphere completely changes as people flock here for dinner and drinks. We enjoyed pizza and cocktails on the beach whilst listening to live music.

      Exploring Legian

      April 9, 2023 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

We spent the day exploring the backstreets of Legian, getting a massage at Ketut’s Spa and spent the evening watching a spectacular sunset over the ocean from the Itchy Bum Bar. We had dinner at Made’s Warung drinking Arak attacks and watching a Legong dance.Read more

      Travel day to Kuta

      September 11, 2023 in Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

The last day of travel. We left the hotel at 8am and took a bus for 5 hours to Kuta, the tourist/party district of Bali. We did stop half way at what was apparently Balis best temple, but it was pretty underwhelming in all honesty. Glad to have split up the long bus ride though. We arrived at Kuta at around 3pm, had a late lunch, and then hit the pool. We then all met up for final dinner and farewells as me and half the group are finishing up the tour. Kuta is a terrible place, would not recommend. Also pictured: the best ice cream! Addicted.Read more

      Bali Bombing

      March 15 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

While I hate the drunken scene in Kuta, the Bali Bombings were an abomination.
The Islamic Fundamentalists wanted to destroy Western Decadence but they weren't from Bali and also had no respect for the Balinese. Many Balinese were killed too.
Thankfully they have been stopped from doing it again.

      6. Surf lesson 4

      July 19, 2023 in Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

      Surf lesson 4

Early start today , we were up at 0515 to get to the beach for 05:45 , it was painful as probably had about 4 hours sleep -especially with all the club music blasting out all night .
It was still dark when we were on the beach and started surfing when the sun was rising , which was really cool .
The green waves were massive so could only stay in the white water which was quite shallow . I just needed to concentrate on perfecting standing up the goofy way and maintaining my balance. It was really frustrating as I automatically wanted to stand up on my right foot first , but I got there eventually. I just kept reminding myself that James has been surfing on and off since he was 14 so naturally I wouldn't be at his level .
Afterwards we headed back to our hotel and started to discuss where to move onto next . The couple next door -called keirnan and Elena overheard us and came to give us some advice .
We ended up chatting with them for ages and decided to go out for lunch together. Keirnan and Elena live in Brighton , Keirnan does WWE wrestling (!!!) and Elena was a nurse in a recovery ward . Like us , they have both quit their jobs to come travelling. It was so nice talking to Elena as a fellow nurse, as she too had to work permanent nights for years to save up for this trip .
We actually spent about 12 hours just chatting to Keirnan and Elena and ended up going out for dinner together too before they caught their flight to the Phillipines .
It was such a shame we had met them on the day they were leaving.
We tried to have an early night before another early start tomorrow 😴.

      Potato Head Beach Club

      June 23, 2017 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Being one of the most prestigious and well known beach clubs in Bali the demand was high. In order to get a bed you had to arrived 30 minutes before opening time which was 9.30am. Having had slow traffic on the way me and Pernilla were worried that arriving with 10 minutes to go before it opened at 10am we wouldn't get a bed. However, being the first one in the queue for it to open we successful got one of the few remaining beds. The beach club was absolutely stunning, having an infinity pool containing a bar right in the centre looking over the ocean.

Being extremely expensive, we began the day with a iced coffee and lay on the beds to enjoy the sun seeing as our one was in the best sun spot for that time of day. At midday we had a snack of nachos to keep us going. They were delicious and devoured quickly.

The rest of our time was spent in and out of the pool and on the sun beds, napping and reading and generally having a relaxing day. Spent the rest of the day in and out of the pool, lying on the sun beds. I almost felt as though it was a holiday within a holiday. Having had quite average weather for my first week we were so lucky having clear blue skies the whole day.

Before sunset we shared a meal of fish and chips as well as a chicken bacon sandwich, both going down a treat. The sunset was beautiful despite being a bit cloudy. However it was clear it was the spot to be for sunset with an influx of people coming to eat and use the pool at that time.

Very content we decided it was our time to leave and went back to the hostel for a shower before heading out and having a drink with Liberty, Fleur and Anna.

Ulun Danu Bratan und Affenwald, Bali

      December 4, 2018 in Indonesia ⋅ 🌫 28 °C

      Astagina Resort & Spa, Seminyak

      December 7, 2018 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

      Schen wars😍

      Atempt at shopping

      July 6, 2019 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Traffic can be a little wonky, honking all the time. Their honking is meant to be polite to let people know you’re coming around the corner. And the scooters are extremely brave!!!

So we started off our day with another great breakfast, Picked up some yogurt along the way. I ended up eating a black charcoal yogurt and it was actually good! We tried to do some shopping but no luck finding the store we wanted.

We did run into a couple from Australia, from the day before, that helped us find the bank.... How funny they mentioned they were thinking about us and if we were ok. The Australians here super nice!
