      Nusa Lombongan/Penida

      After Lombok, we were deciding between going to Komodo islands or going to the Nusa islands near Bali. The 4 day Komodo island boat tour looked really nice, but it's really expensive, and we'd also have to pay for transport back to mainland bali to catch our next flight to Vietnam. So we decided to go to Nusa Lombongan for 3 nights and then Nusa Penida for another 3 nights.

      Nusa Lombongan is the smaller of the two, which was nice as it means that driving anywhere is quick. There's loads of cool spots to explore on the island and a really good variety of food options in a small area. Prices are a bit higher than mainland Bali but still relatively cheap. We went on a snorkelling tour a few days ago which was amazing, easily the best snorkeling I've ever done (although I've not done much). Saw thousands of fish and really colourful coral in crystal clear blue water. We moved spots a couple of times and ended up at Manta Point, where you can free dive and swim with the Manta Rays. We saw three or four and they were absolutely massive, way bigger than I expected. They have a wingspan of up to 7 metres which is crazy, they are like dinosaurs. I was swimming down underwater and swimming alongside them. Very majestic animals and completely harmless. Was a really good experience and makes me want to do more snorkeling and try diving!

      We also went to a temple within a huge cave in a mountain where we watched the ceremony and were then blessed by the priest which involved drinking holy water and having rice put on our head. We were the only westerners who were blessed!

      We spent the rest of our time exploring the island on our scooter, loads of amazing beaches and limestone cliffs. Some really nice sunsets too! We were staying in a very sociable hostel so was nice meeting some new people (including a 62 year old american solo travelling woman who quit her job from microsoft to travel). I can only upload 10 photos now which isn't enough to show everything but have uploaded some of the best!

      Indoensia is my favourite country so far, amazing nature from beaches to mountains, great weather (although sometimes too hot), cheap and tasty food. Only part I wasn't a fan of was the very frequent mosque chanting/signing, which is blasted on big speakers at various points of the day for 30 minutes or more at time. However this was only an issue on Lombok since that is a predominantly Muslim island, whereas Bali and surroudning islands are predominantly Hindi.

      Bye Bye Bali 🇮🇩

      So schnell geht das…morgen früh endet schon meine Zeit auf Bali. 🇮🇩
      Wie schon die erste Woche hier, war auch die zweite Woche total genial.

      Zudem habe ich nach 2 Jahren Pauken endlich den ersten Teil meines Studiums zum Ernährungsberater erfolgreich abgeschlossen! 🥥🍇🥑🥒
      —
      Zurück zu Bali.
      Von Sanur ging es für mich mit der Fähre rüber auf die kleinere Nachbarinsel Nusa Penida.
      Dieses Mal sogar ohne Seekrank zu werden!😍😃
      Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass ich das Mal sagen werde, aber die Straßen und der Verkehr auf Nusa Penida haben Bali nochmal getoppt.😃
      Ansonsten ist es dort relativ ruhig und auch mein Hotel lag mitten im Dschungel. 🐒
      Allerdings in nächster Nähe zu zwei schönen Stränden (Crystal Beach und Pandan Beach) mit einzigartigen sowie bunten Sonnenuntergängen am Abend. 🌅
      Mein Highlight auf Nusa Penida war definitiv die Einladung zum Abendessen bei einer balinesischen Familie!
      Zu sehen in welchen Häusern die Menschen hier leben und unter welchen Umständen, hat mich geerdet!
      Und ich habe schnell gemerkt, Zusammenhalt wird hier anders als in unseren westlichen “Jeder-kämpft-für-sich-Gesellschaften”, groß geschrieben.
      So darf es gerne überall sein!😊
      Morgen früh geht mein Flieger nach Phuket (Thailand🇹🇭) und am 06.02. treffe ich dann auch schon Ali, um gemeinsam Asien unsicher zu machen!

      Transportmittel-Quartett

      Heute war es wieder etwas abenteuerlicher, denn wir erkundeten die Insel Nusa Penida, die größte der drei Nusa-Inseln, die zu Bali gehören, aber trotzdem deutlich weniger ausgebaut und „wilder“ als Nusa Lembongan. Da die Straßen hier doch etwas holpriger sind fuhren wir hier mit Taxis zu unseren Spots.
      Unser erstes Ziel war Angel’s Billabong, ein natürlicher Infinity-Pool, welcher durch das Schlagen der Wellen gegen die Felsen entstanden ist. Da die Wellen hier auch mal gefährlich werden können, gibt es Guides, die vor großen Wellen warnen: mit einem Pfeifen wird signalisiert, dass man sich von den Klippen entfernen soll (das hatten wir heute auch ein paar mal 😅).
      Nicht weit entfernt befindet sich die Broken Bay – die gebrochene Bucht. Hier steht ein natürlicher Torbogen. Der perfekte Ort um ein kleines Fotoshooting zu starten (ich habe mich dabei nicht so nah an die Klippen getraut 🙈).
      Als nächstes fuhren wir zum bekanntesten Aussichtspunkt der Insel. Die steilen Klippen von Kelingking erstrecken sich ins Meer und erinnern in ihrer Form an einen Tyrannosaurus, deswegen tragen sie auch den Spitznamen T-Rex-Klippen. Dazu braucht man aber doch etwas Fantasie (von oben erkennt man den T-Rex doch etwas mehr, also wen es interessiert: googlet es 😁).
      Nach einem Mittagessen und einem Snickers-Eis fuhren wir weiter zur Temeling Beach. Vom Parkplatz bis zum Strandabschnitt trennten uns drei Kilometer und gaaaanz viele Stufen. Die drei Kilometer fuhren wir mit Mopeds (das gehört einfach zu Bali!). Mein Fahrer Madein hat die steinige, schmale und holprige Straße sehr gut gemeistert… es hat wirklich Spaß gemacht. Die Treppen musste ich dann doch alleine bewältigen 😂 unten angekommen konnten wir das Rauschen des Meeres und die Wellen beobachten. Ich liebe einfach das Meer… das werde ich denke ich am meisten vermissen! Danach ging es wieder die Treppen hoch, mit den Moped zum Parkplatz, von dort aus mit dem Taxi zum Hafen, mit dem Schnellboot wieder zurück nach Nusa Lembongan und mit dem Angkot zum Hotel… man merkt hier den Zusammenhang zur Überschrift des heutigen Tages 😉
      Das Highlight des Tages fehlt aber noch: wir haben 🐬 Delfine 🐬gesehen! Und das zweimal! Es war so magisch wie sie schwammen und umherhüpften… der Anblick zauberte jedem ein Lächeln ins Gesicht.       Day 22

      Nusa Penida (24.-25.3.)

      March 25 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

      Am 24.3. fuhren wir mit Sanjas Familie zu siebt nach Nusa Penida, einer kleinen Insel im Osten Balis. Dort besuchen wir zuerst einen Tempel, der sich in einer Höhle befindet und erst über eine Treppe und dann durch einen winzigen Felsspalt zugänglich ist. Wir durchlaufen fünf Gebetsstationen in feucht-warmem Höhlenklima, bevor wir an der anderen Seite des Berges wieder ans Tageslicht kriechen.
      Nach einem schnellen Mittagessen mit prachtvoller Aussicht auf das Meer und Algenfarmen nabeln Sanja und ich uns für ein paar Stunden ab und besuchen einen Strand. Aber was für einen Strand! Wirklich wie er im Buche steht. Er hatte alles: versteckt zwischen hohen Klippen, weicher, heller Sand, atemberaubendes Panorama drumherum, erreichbar nur über einen äußerst steilen Kletterpfad und dadurch nicht überlaufen, Schatten spendende Bäume, türkisblaues Wasser. Schade war nur, dass wir nicht so viel Zeit hatten. Denn bevor es zappenduster ist, sollte man den 30-minütigen Aufstieg geschafft haben, oder man kraxelt im Dunkeln den Hang hoch, was sehr gefährlich ist.
      Danach treffen wir Sanjas Familie in einem anderen Tempel wieder, wo wir nach einem letzten Gebet auch die Nacht verbringen werden. Es ist Vollmondnacht und da ist es sowieso Brauch, nachts in den Tempel zu gehen. Ich hatte mir das alles ein bisschen romantischer vorgestellt; alle schlafen unter einem großen Dach, auf dem Boden, es wird fleißig geschnarcht und geplappert und auch das Licht wird nicht ausgeschaltet. Mit Rückenschmerzen, aber erstaunlich ausgeruht wache ich am nächsten Morgen auf und gemeinsam nehmen wir die erste (und letzte) Fähre zurück nach Bali.      Read more

      Day: 14 Nusa Penida

      So today began with myself on the toilet. That funny feeling from the night before had sadly not disappeared over night. Nonetheless we were up and out for breakfast at another eco cafe before check out at 10am. Sam had a seaweed smoothie bowl 🤢 and I had a berries one - seems this was not the best decision for my stomach! The cafe was cool, doing lots of work with recycling on the island and also neutering/medical care for strays.

      Back at the villa things took a turn for the worst and I was dragged back to the loo. We checked out and had to retreat to the beach for my stomach to settle before the day could continue! As a loo was no longer within reach, Sam bought a coffee at the cafe next to us so I could use theirs. An hour later I was good to go and we headed to Mushroom Bay. The roads on Nusa Lebongan are certainly not flat and this 10 minute journey was enough to send my stomach back into haywire.

      We found another cafe were I lay down and Sam brought another coffee 😅🚽 Another hour later I muscled up the energy to continue on and we headed across the bridge to Nusa Cennigan - The blue lagoon. It truly was a very blue lagoon!

      It was then time to head back as we had a arranged a private boat transfer to Nusa Penida through the guys from the hotel as the price was the equivalent of £2.50 more expensive than the public boat - or so they told us. Wondering what kind of boat we were rocking up to we were pleasantly surprised that it seemed to be in good nick - despite no signs of a life jacket anywhere! The journey was only 10 minutes and went surprisingly smoothly.

      Once on Penida we hired our moped (the best one yet with ALL working parts) and headed for our hotel. We ate lunch down at the restaurant - I had the most amazing pumpkin soup and Sam had banana shoot soup, all made with homegrown produce. We then headed to Sekartaji Cliff point to watch the sunset and have a fly of the drone.

      As the afternoon had gone so well I assumed my stomach was through the worst of it, however that sadly did not prove to be true. The evening was spent back on the 🚽 and room service was the only option for dinner - not that I ate much as plain food in Indonesia is hard to come by!      Read more

      Hello les amis 👋🏼,
      Bali et son eau pourrie nous ont eus !
      Bienvenue à Nusa avec une tourista ( mettons le glamour de côté s'il vous plaît ).
      Nous avons eu une journée pour aller voir l'endroit le plus touristique et Instagrammable (Kelingking Beach). Nos corps suintant de sueur montrent l'effort que nous avons fait pour ESCALADER Bunga Mekar. Mais la récompense en valait la chandelle . Et une bière à Crystal Bay pour un couché de soleils légèrement nuageux.
      Et puis la maladie nous a rattrapés et nous avons été cloués au lit pour le reste des jours sur cette île paradisiaque.      Read more

      Nusa Penida

      WHERE DO I START? Today was 1000% a fairytale!
      As we said goodbye to Ubud, we started our next adventure with a VIP private boat & land tour of Nusa Penida (an island roughly 1hr away from Bali).
      We got picked up at 7am from our Ubud resort and drove south to Mertasari Port. This is where we jumped on our private speed boat and headed for Nusa Penida.
      Whilst the boat trip wasn’t the smoothest to sit still, we still enjoyed a few lovely cakes and drinks on our way. Very quickly we arrived at Mantra Bay, there were a few other boats around with groups of people snorkelling, however no one had spotted any mantras just yet. Our captain suggested going further up around the island with hopefully better luck to spot a mantra away from the larger companies with groups. As we moved along the island, we quickly learnt why all the mantras were hiding away… dolphins! A little lost dolphin was doing flips, jumping and showing off which scared away all the mantras. We quickly jumped in the water, and started snorkelling, no sight of the dolphin again.. however we saw multiple sea turtles and thousands of fish! The water here is beyond crystal clear, absolutely breathtaking.
      A few hours of snorkelling later, we arrived at Nusa Penida Island and had some lunch on our way to see KelingKing Cliff! My photos cannot do it justice of just how picture perfect this cliff looked! Our day had the opportunity to turn very south whilst we were here. As we were having our photos taken, I popped my bumbag on the ground for a second out of the picture… very quickly a monkey came swooping past picking it up… bye bye to all our money, cards, passports, Id’s… everything important and essential is inside that bag and now a monkey has it. Luckily there were lots of people around, a few local tour guides knew exactly how to get it back, and before we could process exactly what we have just lost, we had a local passing the bag back to us… phew! That could have been very bad.
      Our next stop was Crystal Bay beach - a black sand beach on the island! Whilst this was very busy, the water was so cooling and exactly what we needed. We had a quick dip and headed back to the boat. One last snorkel off the boat was essential before we made our way back to the main land.
      Wow! Bali does not disappoint! We swam with millions and millions of fish, diving down beneath the surface, you could swim through schools and they weren’t bothered by us humans. The biggest turtle, I have ever seen came up to say hello, I got to watch him come up to the surface of the water and come back down, diving down to swim along side him felt so surreal, to see gods creation up close and personal, seeing every wrinkle in his neck, ever spec on his shell! Perfect way to end our day! I am absolutely kicking myself that I forgot to bring my GoPro to Bali, however like Amos said.. if I were to have brought it.. we probably wouldn’t have had as much luck seeing the amount of fish and turtles we did.
      A quick boat trip back to the main land, we drove down to our next destination, south of Bali - Uluwatu. Enjoyed a late dinner at a Greek restaurant, and went in for the night.
      An amazing day I will not forget. Nusa Penida, you bet we will be back for more! Goodbye, until next time :)      Read more

      What a loverlllyyy little island 🥰
      An extremely tricky walk /fall down and rock climb back up from the famous klingking 🏝️
      Snorkelling where we saw dolphins, 4 manta rays (unbelievably lucky to see) and a turtle !! 🐢 Definitely should have purchased a GoPro as I have no photo evidence🥲🥲
      Finished the island with a 4am get up for a sunrise drive to Attu beach 🥰

      Es ist nicht immer alles schön.

      Wenn man so lange verreist, weit von daheim und den eigenen Gewohnheiten entfernt ist und sich jeden Tag neu organisieren muss, ist es nicht immer nur schön. Das traut man sich kaum zu sagen, weil man so privilegiert ist, all das zu erleben, aber es ist die Wahrheit.

      Vorletzte Nacht haben wir in einer Unterkunft verbracht, die, weshalb auch immer, von anderen mit 9.5/10 Sternen bewertet wurde. Dieses Zimmer hat unsere Komfortzone so herausgefordert, dass wir auf Handtüchern geschlafen und uns mit unseren Regenjacken zugedeckt haben. Der gestrige Tag hat also schon nicht so toll gestartet. Als wir mit der Fähre auf die Insel Nusa Penida übersetzten, fing es an in Strömen zu regnen und hört seitdem kaum auf. Das schlechte Wetter ist extrem kräftezehrend. Am Hafen von Nusa Penida angekommen, wurden wir von einer Masse an Taxifahrern quasi attackiert, angefasst und bedrängt, mit ihnen zu fahren und nicht mit einem der hundert Kollegen. Total überwältigend auf eine ganz unschöne Art und Weise. Die Insel zeigte sich von Anfang an total zugemüllt, was die Ankunft nicht wirklich besser gemacht hat.
      Wir haben dann extrem hungrig ein leider extrem schlechtes Mittagessen gegessen. Überall auf der Insel sind Straßenhunde, die gleichermaßen gefährlich und krank wirken. Als der Koch im Restaurant sie jedoch vertrieben hat, indem er sie mit einem Holzstock fest geschlagen hat, sind wir 15.00 Uhr zurück ins Hotel und direkt ins Bett.
      Als wir das Bett wieder verließen, um die Wäsche abzugeben, ging der von uns zwei Stunden zuvor gemietete Roller nicht mehr an und die Wäscherei hatte zu.
