      Erster Tag in Rom ohne Plan

      Der Plan ist, einfach ohne Plan in Rom rumzustreunen. Denn jeder von uns war ja schon in Rom und hat alle must-see Lokations schon gesehen und den Eintritt brav gezahlt. Heute also mal nur rumlaufen, Espresso trinken und Atmosphäre aufsaugen. Das hat gut hingehauen, denn das einzige, was gereizt hätte, das archäologische Museum in der Villa Massimo, war am Rosenmontag, wie wohl immer montags?, geschlossen. Hätte man ahnen können… Von da aus also erstmal in den Villa Borghese - Park spazieren gehen. Und dann langsam und zu Fuß zurück durch die Stadt, bis wir wieder am Campo di fiori angekommen sind. Und unterwegs lauern links und rechts dann doch die Sehenswürdigkeiten, an denen man auch dann nicht vorübergehen kann, wenn man sie schon mal gesehen hat: die Spanische Treppe, der Parlamentsplatz, Piazza San Pietro mit der schönen Kirche dazu. Verflixt, heute wollten wir doch eigentlich nix machen, was an Sightseeing erinnert. Freu mich jedenfalls erstmal auf eine ganz einfache Pizza heute Abend.Read more

      4. TAG Rom

      Heute wirds herbstlich. Zwar Sonne und teilweise blauer Himmel, aber es weht ein kalter böiger Wind. Eine gute Ausrede um öfter mal in eins der unzähligen Caffee's und kleinen Restaurantes zu gehen. Der erste Stopp war aber ein Gemüsemarkt. Trotz des Windes ließen wir uns von einem netten Inder zu frisch gepressten O- und Granatapfelsaft überreden. Vorher wurden wir sehr gerne Opfer zweier geschäftstüchtiger Marktleuten, die uns allerlei lokalen Käse und Salami kredenzten. Gott sei Dank ist unsere Transportkapazität aufgrund des Rucksackes der am Münchner Bahnsteig zurückgelassen wurde, begrenzt. Der Weg führt uns weiter vorbei an geschichtsträchtigen Bauten, in die kulinarische Gegenwart: zu ein Bauernmarkt mit lokalen Produkten. Ohne Cappuccino und Frühstück ein fataler Plan. Nachdem wir uns durch die ersten Stände mit Rollbraten Panini, Fucacca und Dolce durchgefressen haben, war Olivenöl Verkostung angesagt. Dank 2x5 Liter war Julias Lenkerkörbchen randvoll und der Weg zu unserem Domizil unumgänglich. Dort wurde natürlich gleich das eben erstandene
      probiert. Weißwein stand ja noch im Kühlschrank und so hätte der Vormittag schön enden können. Meine gnadenlose Frau drängt aber schon wieder weiter.
      Die geplante Cappuccino Fahrt zum gestern Abend entdecken alten Gasspeicher, was wir als Graffiti Area hielten, war nur eine lange Radtour mit vielen Umwegen. Zurück on der Innenstadt wurde erst mal Ausschau nach einem Rucksack gehalten. Der äußerst beeindruckende Brunnen Fontana di Trevi, welcher so mitten in der Stadt, umgeben vom strahlend weißen Marmor eher einem Wasserfall gleicht, war eine Belohnung. Die vielen kleinen Kirchen verlocken immer wieder einen Blick ins Innere zu werfen und sich auf zu wärmen. Zum Abschluss wird der Rucksack gleich auf Größe und Tauglichkeit getestet. Heute wird daheim gekocht - hoff ich. Ich versteck vorsichtshalber den Wein, langsam krieg ich Hunger.      Read more

      Giro Roma Notturna 🌙⛲🌃

      Yo tampoco me reconozco con tanto tour pero dados mis limitados conocimientos en historia y mi incompetencia para recordar fechas y datos históricos, he considerado que era la mejor opción para exprimir al máximo mi visita a Roma 🤓

      Desde Rómulo y Remo, pasando por Julio César y el emperador Augusto, descubrimos la historia desde la fundación de Roma hasta la época del Imperio Romano 🏛️

      Esta vez se me queda totalmente la telenovela barroca entre Bernini y Borromini 😆 Los tours nocturnos me encantan por los colores de las calles, las fuentes y los monumentos ⛲

      La Fontana de Trevi está preciosa y también el Panteón y la embajada de España. La PRIMERA embajada que hubo en el mundo es ésta de España en Roma 🤯 sorry not sorry 💅🏼

      Después del tour, pruebo, por fin, los Supplì vegetarianos 😊 en un restaurante que nos recomienda nuestro guía y mamma mia lo buonissimos que están 🤤🧆      Read more

      Roma day 4, the VatiCan'T

      Last night I bought a last minute ticket to go see the Vatican this morning. The bicycle ride there is the exact same amount of time as an Uber would be, so I'm off on bike! Even though it's a warmer day and I'm forced to wear jeans and a T-shirt because apparently showing shoulders or knees is sinful or disrespectful.
      The bike ride there is so much fun. It's halfway UPHILL which sucks at first but I'm in good spirits and it's not too warm yet. Once I reach the top of the hill, it's winding downhill streets with a view of the city and I am so happy. Then I hit the hot mess that is St. Peters square and theres masses of people that *could* or *could not be* in a line. I eventually find my location where I'm supposed to show my emailed confirmation thru "Just booked" in exchange for a ticket in.
      It's a disaster. I am right *on time* when the ticket does request me to be at least 15 minutes early. Apparently, I come to find out that is because the website overbooks and then admits people by a first come first serve basis. I did not first come soooo, they refunded my ticket and suggested I find a local to get me in. 🫠😅
      I'm too hungry for that so I go to sit down at a nearby cafe and have my first panini, a meatball panini with fresh basil leaves and oozing out mozzarella! With a Hugo... my now, signature cocktail for Rome. It's Gin, prosecco, elderflower syrup, mint and soda water. It's so light and refreshing and reminds me of a mojito but not quite.
      This begins my Vatican't day of being fully dressed for the house of God that's just me sweating in Roman streets. I had a great day though, I drank and I shopped. I didn't just shop though, I made friends with every shop attendant I came across. I asked all about them and what it was like working there, we exchanged English words for Italian words and I would thank them for their unique presence as a vintage shop, a metaphysical shop or artisan shop. I had a hoot.
      But all that day drinking and walking was leading to a crash and I was too far into the city. I had been wanting to catch a movie here so... this was my window! I found a showing of Madame DuBarry (featuring Johnny Depp). It was still in Italian but I figured, why not! That's basically how I'm navigating life rn. And I'm so glad I did! I'm sure I missed a couple jokes or small comments because of the language "barrier" but the movie was fantastic! I almost cried at one point. Maybe that just speaks to how good the film was though 🤷❤️
      On my slow walk back home at sunset time, I happened into Castle D'Angelo, a sight I had wanted to see at some point so this seemed perfect and I got into line for a ticket. Another excellent impromptu choice. Even though the clouds rolled in and blocked my chance of an amazing sunset view, it was such a great experience to walk the halls of a true castle! I could feel the history of the place and swooned. There were truly wonderful Frescos that filled half and lovely rod iron details everywhere. Also, the view at the top wasn't anything less than spectacular and I made sure to sit and enjoy it awhile.
      I went to Mr Cloods in Trastevere for dinner, a suggestion from a friend. On the way there passed by live music after live music. Is tucked down a tiny scary dark alleyway but definitely did not disappoint. I ordered lasagna with wine and a side of charred raddaccio and it was probably the best Roman meal I've had so far.       Ein bisschen hier ein bisschen da

      Nachdem der Kaffe wirkte, ging es für uns weiter Richtung Campo di fiori. Ein großer Markplatz an dem auch wirklich Markt war. Eine Mischung aus Touri- und einheimischen Markt.

      Zwischen jede Menge Obst und Gemüse gab es immer wieder Souvenir Stände. Bei dem Obst konnten wir nicht nein sagen und haben uns einen Becher Mango und Erbeere gegönnt. Es hat grandios geschmeckt! Hier im Süden sind die Früchte einfach nochmal leckerer!🥭🍓

      Nachdem wir auf dem Markt alles gesehen hatten und für uns etwas geshoppt hatten ging es dann weiter zur Caracalla Therme. Naja - das was davon noch übrig geblieben ist. Viele alte kaputte Steine eben🤷🏽‍♀️

      Die Caracalla Therme war früher ein riesiger Bade-Tempel. Mit mehreren Swimming-Pools und Schwitzkammern ähnelt es stark einer uns bekannten Therme. - sehr interessant wie ich finde, dass die alten Römer schon die Vorteile von Saunieren etc. kannten!💆🏽‍♀️

      Auf dem Rückweg ging es über den Zirkus Maximus zurück. Hier sind wir Mitten in eine Polizeit Vollsperrung geraten. Da die Polizia sehr frech nur meine „I don’t speak English“ verriet uns Google schließlich, dass der Papst am Kolloseum zum Friedensgebet geladen hatte. 🙏🏽
      Da wir genau an der Einfahrtsschleuse der „wichtigen“ Autos waren, entschlossen wir uns, uns mal wieder hinzusetzten und Menschen zu beobachten. 👀
      Wir hatten auf jeden Fall unseren Spaß - es war wie immer sehr lustig!

      Irgendwann ging es dann aber doch weiter - Diesesmal mit dem E-Scooter! Wir hatten beide keine Lust mehr zu laufen 🥴
      Ruckzuck waren wir dann bei der Santa Sabina.
      Eine mal etwas ganz ganz andere Kirche! Ausnahmsweise mal etwas schlichter und „ruhiger“. Ohne viel Prunk oder sowas. - viel schöner wie wir finden.🫶🏽

      Nach einer kleinen Runden über den Aventin ging es dann nochmal was essen und dann schlussendlich nach Hause. Hier haben wir kleine Baby-Kakteen gesehen, die anscheinend neu gepflanzt wurden! 😍 ich wollte noch fast einen mitnehmen, sie sahen so alleine dort aus 🥹

      Rome Sweet Rome

      We stayed at Armarndo's Airbnb stay 🏠 and it was PERFECT! He completely undersold this place which was in a great location, around the corner from Piazza Navona and Piazza Fiori! Armando was so helpful and I would recommend this accomodation to anyone on a city break to Rome.

      On our first day in Rome we hopped straight to it and visited Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain and Piazza Del Popolo. We also made it to the Spanish Steps to find that they were closed, no thanks to Bvlgari!!😣

      We later found out that a few of the famous Rome landmarks and attractions have recently been closed off due to luxury fashion designers funding a restoration or clean up of the site in order to promote their fashion brand. Tods shoe designer recently cleaned the Colosseum which cost them 25 million Euros 💵.

      We booked onto a tour of the Roman Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum. Although it was good to have a guided tour we did feel that our time in the colosseum was a bit rushed and Steve would have liked to have taken more photos.

      On that note, Steve's photo count is at 1,824! We're going to have fun selecting the ones to put into this year's holiday photo book... (which has become a yearly tradition now 😊). Who's turn is it this year Steve??? 😉

      We also visited the Vatican Museums and THANKFULLY hopped, skipped and jumped right past the 2 hour long queue to get in! "neh neh 😆" couldn't help but feel smug that we booked online in advance. Later in the afternoon we climbed to the top of St Peter's cupola (dome) for great views across the city.

      It's got to the point that I don't know what day of the week it is any more, I just count the number of nights I have in a city and be mindful that we have a train or a plane to catch! 😍 #earlyretirement      Read more

      A reggeli után - ami persze gyárilag csak édesség lett volna és nem voltak annyira flexibilisek a kávézóban h cseréljenek így vettem egy szendvicset h legalább cukrot ne egyek - elindultunk a Colosseum fele. Nagyon jók nez ki meg mindig, bár kisebb akadalypalya mire az ember megküzd a sok arussal és tura szervezővel. De hála a Roma pass-nak a km-es sort simán kikerültuk és pikk pakk bejutottunk. Ezt kovetoen Palatino és Fórum vegigturazasa, majd onnan Piazza Venezia az emlékművel, ahol egy kisebb tuntetesbe is belefutottunk. De nagyon békések voltak, csak álltak és dumcsiztak és lepedoket tettek ki feliratokkal. Utána elindultunk a Campo di Fiori iranyaba, de meg útba ejtettunk néhány kisebb templomot is. Jó volt már megérkezni a térre.Read more

      While this was an interesting looking place, it’s obviously not what we expected. I’m thinking that Bryan thought that this would have been something like Smorgasburg back home in New York City. Taking place in Brooklyn, Smorgasburg is a collection of food vendors all in one place selling a wide variety of meals, drinks and desserts. I really wish that this place was like that.Read more
