    Selfmade Upgrade für Swetlana

    Heute haben wir kurzfristig entschieden, ein kleines Upgrade für Swetlana zu bauen. Ruckzuck waren die Rücksitze ausgebaut und eine Skizze für eine eine neue Unterkonstruktion für die Schlafmatratze entworfen. Dies ermöglicht mehr Stauraum unter dem Bett. Gleichzeitig wird ein, aus der Seitentür herausziehbarer Tisch, in die Unterkonstruktion eingebaut. Es ist sooo cool ein Auto umzubauen!!!

    Selfmade upgrade for Swetlana

    Today we decided to create an update for 'Swetlana'. We took out the backseats of our van quite fast. We made a little sketch for building a new sebstructure for the sleeping area as well. In this way we can get much more storing space. We also have the plan to build a retractable table within the substructure. It's sooo cool to rebuild a car!!!    Read more

    Tschüss Gastfamilie, Hallo Abenteuer :)

    Am 10. September hieß es Abschied nehmen nach einer sehr schönen Zeit bei unserer Gastfamilie aus Auckland. Die nächste Woche gehörte Swetlana, Hubert und uns. Unsere erste Nacht im neuen Van verbrachten wir am Lake Waikere (südlich von Auckland), anschließend ging es nach Port Jackson. Nachdem Swetlana die letzten 23 km Schotterpiste ohne Leitplanke überstanden hatte, verbrachten wir 2 wunderschöne Nächte auf einem Campingplatz direkt am Meer. Um diese Jahreszeit ist kaum einer dort anzutreffen also hatten wir fast den gesamten Platz für uns. Wir bestritten den Muriwai-Walk entlang der Küste und schauten in den Sonnenuntergang. Das geplante Lagerfeuer fiel aber leider aufgrund eines heftigen Regengusses ins Wasser.

    Goodbye host family, hello adventure :)

    On the 10th of September we had to say Goodbye to our lovely host family. We have to say THANK YOU for the great time we had with you guys! The next week was up to Swetlana, Hubert and us. We spent our first night at Lake Waikere (south of Auckland). After that we drove to the beautiful Port Jackson. Swetlana had to manage 23km of gravel road without any crash barriers till we reached the campground. We spent two nights nearly alone at this beautiful place with an amazing view of the ocean. We did the Muriwai-Walk along the coast line and watched the sunset. Unfortunately, we couldn´t make the planned campfire cause it was raining.    Read more

    Day 58

    Lake Aniwhenua wir kommen

    September 14, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

    Nach drei wirklich klasse Tagen machten wir uns entlang der Küste wieder auf den Weg nach Coromandel. Swetlana und Hubert überstanden auch die zweite Tour über die 'Gravel Road' ohne Probleme. Auf dem Weg an die Ostküste zu einem kleinen Zwischenstopp in Kuaotunu machten wir Halt am Maungataururu Lookout und genossen einen tollen Blick in Richtung Coromandel und unserem Ziel Kuaotunu. Da war es leider zu windig und das Wetter war auch nicht toll. Somit ging es entlang der Küste, durch viele kleine Städte und Dörfer runter nach Te Puna. Es war bereits Abend geworden und wir haben somit leider nur die Lichter von Tauranga und Umgebung sehen können. Über Nacht blieben wir auf einem relativ großen Campingplatz (das haben wir am Abend gar nicht bemerkt) bevor wir dann letztendlich die letzte Etappe zum Lake Aniwhenua in Angriff genommen haben. Einem kleinen Stausee, in mitten eines Waldes. Somit blieb nur noch eins: Hängematte aufspannen und die nächsten zwei Nächte genießen!

    Lake Aniwhenua, here we come

    After three really great days at Port Jackson we went again along the coast on the way to Coromandel. Swetlana and Hubert also survived the second tour over gravel road without problems. On the way to the east coast to a small stopover in Kuaotunu we stopped at the Maungataururu lookout and enjoyed a great view towards Coromandel and our destination Kuaotunu. As we arrived in Kuaotunu it was too windy and the weather was not great either. So we continued our trip and went along the coast, through many small towns and villages down to Te Puna. It was already evening and we could only see the lights of Tauranga and the surrounding area. Overnight we stayed on a relatively large campsite (we did not even notice it in the evening) before we finally tackled the last stage to Lake Aniwhenua. A small lake, in the middle of a forest. As soon as we arrived there was only one thing left: hanging up the hammock and enjoy the next two nights!    Read more

    FREIbad, Spa und heiße Duschen

    Nach zwei Nächten am Lake Aniwhenua machten wir einen Zwischenstopp in Kawerau. Hier soll es ein kostenloses öffentliches Schwimmbad geben. Der Maurie Kjar Memorial Swimming Pool ist kostenlos und frei zugänglich für alle und bietet neben einem 25m Schwimmerbecken, vielen kleinen Becken für Kinder und einem Spa-Bereich eine langersehnte heiße Dusche für uns. Nach ein paar Bahnen im Schwimmerbecken entspannten wir im Spa-Pool bei schönen 38 Grad Wassertemperatur. Herrlich! Nach einer langen Dusche ging es dann weiter zum nächsten Campground in Omahuru.

    FREE swimming pool, spa area and hot showers

    After two nights at Lake Aniwhenua we made a stopover in Kawerau. There is a free public swimming pool. The Maurie Kjar Memorial Swimming Pool is free of charge and freely accessible to all. It offers a long-sighted hot shower for us as well as a 25m float pool, many small pools for children and a spa area. After a few laps in the swimming pool we relaxed in the spa pool at beautiful 38 degrees water temperature. Gorgeous! After we took a long shower we went to the next campground in Omahuru.     Mitten im Nirgendwo

    September 16, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

    Frisch geduscht ging es für eine vorerst letzte Nacht in Richtung Omahuru zu einem freien Campingplatz. Außer uns war keiner da und es war herrlich. Der Campingplatz war eine große Wiese mit Toilette, Tischen & Bänken und Feuerstellen inmitten des Te Urewera - Nationalparks (Urwald). Nach einem schönen und ruhigen Nachmittag wurde es langsam Nachts und wir verkrochen uns im Auto, da es nachts immer noch ziemlich kalt wird. Wir spielten Karten und lasen aus einem Buch, bis wir plötzlich aufschraken. Um unser Auto herum machten sich auf einmal komische dumpfe Geräusche breit und das Auto fing leicht an zu vibrieren, da von draußen Schritte zu hören waren. Sofort sagte keiner von uns mehr ein Wort und wir schalteten unsere Lichter aus. Unter Herzklopfen versuchten wir in der Dunkelheit zu erspähen was um unser Auto herum vor sich ging und nach kurzer Zeit hatten wir eine Antwort: PFERDE!!! Man war das ein Schreck! Am nächsten Morgen standen 10 Pferde gegenüber des Campingplatzes, welches erneut ganz nah zu uns herüberkamen. Das eigentlich gruselige dieser Nacht war jedoch, dass nachts 2 mal ein Jeep mit Flutlicht gefahren kam und alle Ecken ausleuchtete, als wenn sie nach iwas auf der Suche waren, wonach wissen wir leider bis heute noch nicht.
    Nach dieser erlebnisreichen Nacht ging es für uns am nächsten Tag weiter nach Opotiki zu unseren neuen Gastfamilie, die wir über HelpX gefunden haben.

    In the middle of nowhere

    Freshly showered we went for a initially last night to a free campground in Omahuru. No one was there, except us. The campsite was a large meadow with a toilet, tables, benches and fire places situated in the middle of the Te Uriwera national park. After a nice and quiet afternoon we decided to go into the car cause the nights outside are still very cold. We played a card game and read from a book till we suddenly got scared. We heared strange noises around us and the car starts to vibrate as there were steps to be heared from the outside. Immediately none of us spoke a word and we turned off all our lights. With our hearts beating we tried to figure out whats happening around the car and soon we got an answer: HORSES!!! That was a little bit creepy! In the next morning we saw about 10 horses standing on the other side of the campground which again came over very close to us. By the way the creepiest thing at this night were the two Jeeps with floodlight which came two times that night and lightend up all corners if they were searching for something. Unfortunately we still dont know for what they were searching.
    After this exciting night we drove to Opotiki the next day. There we met our new host family we found about HelpX.    Read more

    Direkt vor der Haustür

    Heute Abend waren wir zum Geburtstag eingeladen. Es gab lustige Leute, lecker Essen und tolle Gespräche am kleinen, aber feinen Lagerfeuer. Nachdem wir wieder nach Hause gefahren sind, kam ich auf die Idee einfach mal die Kamera rauszuholen und den Sternenhimmel bzw. die Milchstraße festzuhalten. Direkt vor unserer Haustür konnte wir so viele Sterne sehen wie lange nicht. Selbst die Milchstraße war sehr deutlich zu erkennen. Der erste Versuch eines Panoramas der Milchstraße verlief dann doch recht gut.

    Right in front of the house

    Tonight we were invited to the birthday party. There were funny people, delicious food and great conversation at a small, but fine camp fire. After we drove back home, I came up with the idea of simply getting the camera out and capturing the starry sky and the milky way. Right in front of our front door we could see so many stars. It has been a long time since we saw this many stars before. Even the milky way was very clear. The first attempt at a panorama of the milky way went quite well.    Read more

    Heute waren wir beim Zahnarzt weil sich der Zahnteufel bei Felix breit gemacht hatte. Kostenpunkt: 350 NZ-Dollar :D Hoffentlich ist die Versicherung gnädig mit uns.

    Was bisher geschah..

    September 30, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

    Lange ist es her, dass wir etwas von uns hören lassen haben. Deshalb keine Zeit verlieren und ein wenig zurück gehen.

    Angekommen bei der unglaublich tollen und lieben Gastfamilie lebten wir uns nach und nach ein. Die Gastmutter ist liebevoll und hilfsbereit. Auch ihre beiden erwachsenen Söhne sind lustige Kompanen. Bei gemeinsamen Spieleabenden, Abendmahlzeiten, täglichen Gesprächen und kleineren Aufgaben rund um das Haus, fiel es uns nicht schwer, alle ins Herz zu schließen. Sie haben das Haus vor gut 4 Jahren gekauft und renovieren es jetzt nach und nach. Dabei wollen und können wir ihnen tatkräftig unter die Arme greifen. Besser kann der Start im sonnigen Örtchen Opotiki in der Region Bay of Blenty nicht sein.

    What has been happening..

    We know that you guys were waiting for a long time to get a new post from us so here it is. Therefore we have to go back in time a little bit.

    After we arrived at our lovely host family in Opotiki we settled in step by step. Our host mum is always so lovey and helpful to us. Her two adult sons are funny mates as well. After having a few conversations and board games in the evening, it was not hard for us to take them all to our hearts and so we had a really good start in the sunny Opotiki situated in the Bay of Plenty. The family bought a old (but gold) house 4 years ago and are renovating it now step by step and we really want to help them. In the moment we are helping them to build a new bathroom and kitchen.

    Auf geht's in die Kiwi-Orchards

    Da unsere Gastfamilie bei OPAC in der Kiwiverpackung arbeitet, vermittelten sie uns einen Job in selbiger Firma. Nach dem Ausfüllen von zwei kleinen Dokumenten konnten wir uns heute auf den Weg zur Einleitung und Drogentest machen. Nach gut 3h (davon ca. 2h warten auf Drogentest) hatten wir den Job für die nächsten Wochen bis Weihnachten sicher und waren sehr erleichtert, dass alles ohne große Probleme funktioniert hat.

    Kiwi-orchards here we go

    Our host family is working in the packhouse of OPAC, a kiwi selling company. Thats why they got us into the company as well. After we filled out a small document we had our induction and drug test today. After 3 hours ( 1hour induction and 2 hours just waiting for the drug test) everything was done and our job for the next weeks till christmas was save. We are so happy that everything went fine without bigger issues.
