    Jack Fruit Tree

    July 14, 2016 in Mexico

Yadira and a couple of their friends from Seattle pick us up at the hotel to go to the vet. Before we left for the vet I gave Yelapa a few morsels of Jamon de Serrano that I had bought for myself, she loved those and almost bit my fingers off to get them. Her appetite whetted, she went to her bowl and ate a good portion of dog food. What a relief 😊, this is the first time she ate for me. Yadira is driving, she stops to order coconuts from a stand that happens to be under this jackfruit tree. The jackfruit is not ripe yet. This is the first time I have ever seen a jackfruit tree. Everyone orders a coconut but me, which I regretted when they brought the coconuts, they smelled so good - BassamRead more

    Taqueria Lunch

    July 15, 2016 in Mexico

I took Yelapa to this street taqueria literally 2 blocks from Casa Fantasia. Oh what good tacos. Had the El Pastor, lengua, and asada. The lady makes the tortillas right there in front of you. There are benches to sit around the cart and a small one to the side. The owner brought a chair for Yelapa. I tried very tiny morsels of meat, she inhaled them. She was so happy. A few small portions of taco soaked in the meat juice, she loved. I tried to sneak in a small bean or two with the meat, she ate the meat and spit out the bean. She definitely is a meat lover - BassamRead more

The white splotches on the shirt.

    July 15, 2016 in Mexico

That's the salt residue after the sweat soaked shirt dried out. It rained early this morning and it has been beautiful since. It is so humid I get drenched in sweat within ten minutes of starting to walk - Bassam

    The Malecón

    July 12, 2016 in Mexico

Not as crowded as during the high season, but still busy. A lot of families with children and couples strolling, eating ice cream and what street vendors have to offer. This is a very short walk from Casa Fantasia. The clouds are gathering, and as you can see in the photo it is already raining in the distance over the waters of the Pacific. I felt a couple small drops on my face, refreshing... I have an umbrella in my backpack, I am set, right? - BassRead more

    Casa Fantasia Courtyard Breakfast

    July 13, 2016 in Mexico

Hipólito is the owner/manager; he tells me that last night's storm was heavier than normal. They had one storm before which was nothing like last night's. He goes for an hour walk every night and he was caught in it too.

They made breakfast for me: dos huevos, frijoles, papas, tortillas de maíz y salsa especialmente para mi 😊 It seems I am the only guest here - BassamRead more

    Beach

    July 14, 2016 in Mexico

Yelapa finally woke up at 8:00. She had gotten closer to me in the middle of the night, occasionally putting her chin in my hand. When she saw her leash she got all excited. We walked to the beach which is literally a block away. A lot of guys out there with their off leash dogs running wild. She loves the beach, and of course she poops right there in the sand, and of course I pick it up. She is such a quiet dog, and I think she has a keen sense of smell. She has to sniff every bush, every tree trunk, everything. Same behavior I noticed on the beach in Yelapa - BassamRead more

    Cenaduria Celia Restaurant

    July 14, 2016 in Mexico

This is where we go to eat authentic Mexican food. With us are the two friends from Seattle who are restaurateurs; they own a Mexican restaurant in Seattle. I order Pozole with mixed meats including pig's feet (my favorite); delicious - Bassam

    Playa Los Arcos

    July 15, 2016 in Mexico

He took me for a walk in the evening. He talks funny. Most of the time I don't get what he's saying, except when he calls me "bonita", I like that. Occasionally he will say "ven aquí" so I go to him. I am starting to like him, he is kind to me. He has been taking me to the beach many times a day to walk in the sand and on the wet edge where the waves break. I miss my beach, and the jungle that starts where the beach ends. Funny, he keeps calling the name of my beach when he wants my attention, just like the Fernandez' did when I was staying with them. I guess that will be my name, Yelapa, Yelapa they call me. That's where I first saw them, He and the two ladies with him. I still don't know what he's got planned for me, but for some reason I don't care. I have a feeling it will be good. - YelapaRead more

    Casa Fantasia

    July 18, 2016 in Mexico

We may be going out one last time with my Puerto Vallarta Familia. But he is getting busy packing. He had kept our room tidy, but now it is a little messy. I sit at the edge of the bed watching him. I still don't have any appetite, must be my nerves. For the first time today it rained gently for 20 minutes. Stopped now, which is a good thing because I may have to take him out for a walk - YelapaRead more

    Malecón - One last time

    July 18, 2016 in Mexico

He had bought some teeshirts, one size too small. We walk on the Malecón, it is still early and there are hardly any people or any dogs. Is the shop going to be open yet? When we get to the store, the lady had just opened the shutters and was starting to put the merchandise out. He tells her he needs large size, not medium. She jokes that he has been eating too many tacos. He laughs. Then she wanted to know all about me. He tells her we are leaving tomorrow, and that it will be my first ride on a plane. It is starting to really sink in. Yes, really. This is happening - YelapaRead more
