      Visite d'aQysta

      May 2, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

      22. Bus 23. Patan Durbar Square

      June 11, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ 🌧 28 °C

      22. Transfer from Pokhara to Kathmandu

We were up at 0545 , ready to catch our taxi to the bus station for 0630.
We managed to grab a quick coffee before getting on our luxury vip bus at 0730.🚌 😀.
For some reason, the bus was running a little late and some of the passengers got very angry with the driver- which was quite amusing.
The seats were much more comfortable and the air-conditioning was working well !
The bus journey took 9.5 hours to get to Kathmandu, and the first half of the journey was so bumpy . We stopped off for lunch at a hotel on the side of the road.
Eventually we arrived in Kathmandu and were almost unable to leave the bus station as so many people were trying to sell things to us . The taxi driver was being really cheeky with his prices too .
Once that was all sorted , we checked into our hotel and had to swap rooms three time due to them giving us the incorrect room and no aircon .
Luckily, we managed to get ourselves a room with working aircon and a lovely balcony .
After a short while , we went to one of our few trusted restaurants "mitho" for a bite to eat . We had a relatively early night after this .

      23. Patan durbar Square.
Today we headed to Patan durbar Square, situated in the city centre of lalitpur in Nepal. This is the second of three durbar squares we have visited in the Kathmandu valley. All of the durbar squares are listed as world heritage sites .
One of the main attractions is the Palace where the Malla King's once resided.
The Square boasts the amazing newar architecture, with 136 courtyards and 55 major temples . There was also a really informative museum, which went into detail about the gods worshipped and what they symbolised.
Unfortunately , alot of the architecture was damaged during the 2015 earthquake and is still under repair .
After exploring the durbar Square, we stopped off for coffee at this little place down an alley , it really didn't look anything special but the coffee was the best we have had in Nepal. We then carried on walking to look at an actual supermarket , first proper supermarket we have seen . There were whole aisles dedicated to spices , mum you would have loved this !
Once freshened up at the hotel , we went out for some food and watched a film before going to bed.

      Patan Durbar Square

      November 11, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

      Patan

      September 9, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Some street photos from our street (between Patan gate and Dharwha House) in Patan. Many buildings and structures were damaged in the 2015 earthquake. Some are being rebuilt, others are propped up with beams (!). There are many interesting laneways with ancient archways that open into internal (sometimes crumbling) shared courtyards.Read more

      Gesegnet von der living goddess

      August 26, 2017 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

      Kathmandu Valley - Patan

      November 1, 2019 in Nepal ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Along with Kathmandu and Bhaktapur, Patan (aka Lalitpur) was one of the three medieval city states that originally occupied the Kathmandu Valley. Patan has a long Buddhist history; most of its main buildings were erected in the 16th to 18th centuries by the Mallas and are located in the Durbar Square.

There are many temples and monuments in the square and the Royal Palace occupies its eastern side; it is one of the architectural highlights of Nepal. The Royal Palace comprises:

      - the Mul Chowk, with its small, gilded Bidyapith Temple in the centre of the courtyard,
      - the smaller Sundari Chowk, with its carved and sunken Tusha Hiti water tank in its centre and the larger Bhandarkhal water tank outside, and
      - the northern Chowk with the Patan Museum housed around it; entry is via a beautiful golden gate.

We enjoyed walks both south and north of the Durbar Square courtesy of the Lonely Planet guide book, taking in many interesting sites, including the Golden Temple (Kwa Bahal).

      Patan, Nepal

      August 30, 2019 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

One of the oldest cities in Nepal, located just across the river from Kathmandu. The first three are at the golden temple, followed by a typical street scene, a Buddha statue and another temple with a statue of an old king sitting on top.Read more

      Tour of Patan

      September 12, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Tour of Patan's courtyards with Prakash Dharwha. We visited The Kumari (9 year old living goddess) and her mother at their home. We visited the original Dharwha family home with its many buildings and courtyards - unfortunately some of these homes are badly damaged and in need of repair - others have been locked and the owners now live overseas or in larger more modern homes elsewhere in Kathmandu. We saw many small stupas and temples along the way - some just a few rocks taken from significant monuments so that those who cannot reach Swayambunath (for example) daily, can maintain connection to and pray to that place. Each of these stupas are 3D representations of mandalas (viewed from above) and act like public compasses - nagas always face north, meditation Buddha (hands in lap, face west), hand open and ground touching Buddha face east and south respectively. I found this to be the most interesting piece of information learned from Prakash. We also passed through doorways to courtyards that were plastered with nails, each one placed when a deceased exited the family home for the final time. Some very ancient.Read more

      Dag 26 Nepal

      September 24, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

      October 6, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C
