    Parco Archeologico di Selinunte

    Einer der grössten archäologischen Stätten in Europa, heisst es. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selinunt
    Sicher nicht die Einzige. Ca. 400 BC. Eine 2500 Jahre alte Wehranlage. Really impressiv.
    Die alten, erhaltenen griechischen und römischen Städte in Sizilien gibt es wie Sand am Meer. Die Schönheit dieser Stadt ist die Landschaft darum.
    Sehr schön finde ich den Blick auf die Akropolis von weitem.
    Das Becken in welches Thomas Wasser schüttet war wahrscheinlich das Waschbecken. Es steht an einer der Zugänge zur Akropolis.
    Auf einem Bild sieht man Wagenspuren. Die Räder waren damals aus Holz mit Eisen beschlagen auf der Seite. Damals, hatten die Strassen im ganzen römische Reich die gleiche Breite und die Abstände zwischen zwei Rädern war überall geich. Damit die wagen im ganzen Reich zirkulieren können.
    Das nenn ich mal eine sinnvolle EU Anordnung! Ich glaube nicht, dass die Zugschienen alle die gleiche Breite haben in der EU.....
    Das Symbol ist Teil eines erhaltenen Mosaik und stellt die phönizischenGöttin Tanit dar. Es soll ein Caducues (ein römischer Herald) die Sonne, eine Krone und ein Rinderkopf darstellen????
    Also mich erinnert es an das Frauenzeichen.    Lue lisää

    Sandparking - automatische Waschanlage

    Erst habe das Ding im Wasser bestaunt und dachte dass muss die sizilianische Version der automatischen Autowaschanlage sein.
    Dann sah ich den Traktor und dachte; Typisch, die Sizilianer brauche den leeren Strand als Parking.
    Erst als ich die Zwei Vehikel in einem Bild betrachtet habe wurde mir klar was sie sind und welche Funktion sie erfüllen.

    Tre fontane - Sandsurfen mit dem Auto

    Als ich das Erste Mal über die Sanddüne auf der Strasse gefahren bin, bin och fast stecken geblieben. Die weiteren Male habe ich dann Dünensurfen mit dem Auto gelernt. Wirklich cool. Mit einem bisschen Übung kann man das Auto zum schlittern bringen!
    Allerdings glaube ich nicht, dass die Bewohner der Strasse in welche sich die Düne hinstreckt, da noch reinfahren können. Keine Platz um vorher zu beschleunigen und die Sanddüne ist sehr hoch. Sizilianische Verhältnisse halt:-)    Lue lisää

    Tre Fontane

    Angekommen im Haus meines Bekannten. Ein wunderbarer Garten! ich fotografiere ihn wenn es nicht mehr windet.
    Freitag/Samstag/Sonntag es gestürmt wie verrückt. Die leeren Mülltonnen wurden im Garten herumgeschleudert. Eine Sturmböe hat einen grossen Tisch aus Eisen erfasst und 5 Meter weiter getragen.
    Fenster und dicke Holzläden mussten gesichert werden sowie alles was nicht niet- und nagelfest ist.
    Was bleibt zu tun? Essen, schlafen, lesen, netflixen und einen kurzen Strandspaziergang wagen. Nicht das schlimmste Leben:-)    Lue lisää

    Palermo

    Ich finde der Abfall ist weniger geworden, die Gastfreundschaft gleich toll und das sizilianische Licht so wunderbar wie ehe und je😍.
    Das Foto mir der Kreuzung: Die Ampel setzte auf grün, alle starteten die Strasse zu überqueren. Gleichzeitig winkte eine Verkehrspolizistin die Autos welche rot hatten durch, also zu uns welche überquerten?? So entstand eine Situation wo ALLE Verkehrsteilnehmer wie angewurzelt stehen blieben... lol. Woran die Verkehrspolizistin wohl gerade gedacht hatte?
    Die berittene Polizei, sehr adrett! Ich denke die sind ein Marketing Gag. Oder kann ich mir vorstellen wie die berittene Polizei Verbrecher in schnellen Autos jagt? Aber vielleicht per Pede oder Velo fahrende Verbrecher?    Lue lisää

    Friday - it's the weekend!

    It's Friday and it's the weekend here so Kamal, Umna's husband, came out with us.
    We went to old Cairo and the markets.
    Very colorful markets with spices, fabrics, jewelry and more. Men praising their goods, loud music, all very busy. People enjoy their off day with a stroll through the old town and an outing into restaurants.

    Clothing-wise there is everything from whole covered women (burka) and man in their traditional galabeya to western clothing in jeans and t-shirts for both men and women.
    Also not all women cover their hair.

    Besides old Cairo we visited, a Derwish tempel (Sufi religion, a branch of the Islam) and two mosques. I love the outlay, the artwork, the lightening in the mosques. Stunning. The energy is very good, soothing. I find that in places where there have been prayers for many centuries the energy usually is very soothing and peaceful.

    I'm very fortunate because Kamal is a famous Egyptian director of photography and documentary films. You will notice the pictures are very good. Credit goes to Kamal!

    I bought a amethyst and had it made into a ring. The amethyst was six dollars, the silver and the making 45 dollars. I love the ring.    Lue lisää

    Cairo - 21'000'000 humans beings!

    Cairo is the second largest urban agglomeration in Africa (behind Lagos). The largest in the Arab world and the Middle East.
    The he sixth-largest in the world.. 21.3 Million inhabitant. WOW.

    When Umna picked me up at the airport I asked how long the commute would be. She said two hours. I thought she joked. She did not!

    Umna lives with her husband. The second of her daughters just got married and moved out. Children live with their parents until they marry, no matter the age or gender.

    When a man and a woman marry the who pays what is set.
    The parents of the bride pays for the engagement party, the parents of the groom pay for the wedding.
    If the bride to be does not have a engagement party, the cost for the wedding are split.
    The apartment/house is paid by the parents of the groom. Furniture, electrical appliances and everything else one needs down to the teaspoon are split.
    In Cairo, everything has with a wire (electrical appliances) is usually provided by the parents of the groom. In the countryside its the parents of the bride:-).

    In 1998 a genius business man with visions sold sand in the desert to interested parties. He decided to build homes in the desert. It was the first big gated community built in the desert. The plans existed only on paper, it was a dream, hence the name.
    It was a crazy idea back then. Umna and her family moved in in 2005. Coming and going they drove through the desert.
    It's very cold here. Although it's 10-15 degree, it feels like below zero. A cold which possesses your whole body down to the very last cell.

    I had a long day, so going to bed early.

    When again is the flight?

    I've been to Egypt and Cairo in 2006 and the experience was not at all pleasant. Telling this Umna, a cousin of my friend Nadja I met in Switzerland, she commanded that she must correct  this experience and invited me to come see her.
    We also had one of these immediate connections.

    I've been wanting to learn Arabic since I was 20 years old.

    1. Attempt in 1982 in Jerusalem. At the time the best University to learn Arabic. Could not go - my father who had to fund me did not think of this Idea as the brilliant Idea I thought it was.

    2. Attempt 2005 in Damascus. Had everything ready. VISA, school, Family stay - then the situation became difficult in Syria. Did let it go.

    3. Attempt will be October 2022

    So I'm going to see my new friend Umna and her family. Immerse in local culture and make plans for October.

    Who knows me, knows that on all my travels several mishaps happen - mostly me being clumsy, unaware, forgetful... Missing flights, showing up with ID instead of passport at the airport, loosing important stuff like passport, ending up in Hospital and more of it.

    I am also very bad at orientation - a friend of mine always wonders how I can travel the world with such a bad sense of orientation, even google maps can't help me... yeah, but I get to talk to a lot of people because asking direction and obviously also get into a lot of adventures because their direction is approximately or just wrong to save face.

    This time it almost happened before I even left. I thought of my travel date Wednesday the 13.1.2022. Knowing me I took a good look at my ticket... what???
    The 13. is on Thursday? Why???

    Pffff.

    I'm very excited to go. Also, it has been 6 month I came back from my last travel. Torture for my soul and spirit.

    Die letzten Tage

    Was ich verpassen und was nicht.

    Meine Rückkehr nach Hause ist nah, 4 Tage sind übrig. Ein Moment zum Nachdenken, was ich vermissen werde und was nicht.

    Vermissen: Das Meer und das Schwimmen darin, jeden Tag frischen Fisch und Kokosnusswasser, Stand Up Paddling, das warme Wetter, Bachata tanzen, Cocktails, Sonnenuntergänge, Moto Concho, Adam der Hund meiner Nachbarn und eine wirklich, wirklich (!!) günstige Schneiderin.

    Nicht vermissen: Die Luftfeuchtigkeit, den ständigen Lärm, die ständige laute Musik, die dominikanische Klinik, die Moskitos und das ständige Nachrufen von Männern.

    Aber ich freue mich sehr auf meine Familie und Freunde, eine Kultur, in der ich mich gut zurechtfinde und mein Zuhause und meinen Balkon!!!

    Besonders dankbar bin ich meiner wunderbaren, geliebten Tochter Federica, die sich um meine Post und Adminung kümmert, wenn ich für längere Zeit abwesend bin. Ich wüsste nicht, wie ich es sonst machen sollte!    Lue lisää

    Last days....

    What I’ll miss and what not!

    My return home is close, 4 days are left. A moment to reflect what I’ll miss and what not.

    Miss: Sea and the swimming in it, fresh fish and coconut water every day, stand up paddling, the warm weather, bachata dancing, cocktails, sunsets, moto concho, Adam my next door neighbor dog and a really, really inexpensive tailor.

    Miss not: Humidity, constant noise, constant loud music, Dominican clinic, mosquitos, constant verbal abuse by men.

    More things to miss then not to miss.

    But I’m looking very much forward to my family and friends, a culture I can easily navigate and my home and balcony!!

    I’m especially thankful to my precious, beloved daughter Federica who takes care of my mail and admin when I’m absent for long period of times. Would not know how to do otherwise!    Lue lisää

    Corrupted relationships

    On my travels, I encounter various forms of poverty. I could write books.

    How poverty begins to develop in the smallest, most insignificant detail and ends in a spiral of social, health and educational poverty. Like for example here in the Dominican Republic. No free access to clean drinking water or money for school uniforms. Usually, social advancement is denied for generations. This is not a "poor" country, by the way. It has everything, it is "only" politically, economically, and socially corrupted.

    But that is not what I am concerned with today. I have been concerned for many years with how tourism in "poor" countries corrupt the relationship between "poor" and "rich".
    However, I only encounter it in tourist centers, not where there is hardly any tourism, such as in rural areas. And not with people who themselves "have enough." If they do not feel a subjective experienced lack.

    I speak here of Central America. In Africa I experience it again differently.

    I take as an example my former housekeeper Jilcia here in Las Terrenas. She was recommended to me by my former Spanish teacher here, a trustworthy person.

    She is smart, funny, helpful, and friendly. We always have lunch together. We have good conversations. I trust her. She does my shopping for me. I pay her above market price because I pass on to her what my health insurance pays for the first two weeks after leaving the hospital.

    I apparently pay her so well that she can finally save the money for a security deposit to move into a real cement house. She previously lived in a wood and corrugated iron shack. She keeps thanking me, too.

    I can already tell that she knows exactly how to deal with me to build trust.
    She has good people skills. She has experience with tourists.

    I think I ignore it because she is one of the few social contacts I still have after Claudia left.

    I ask her to bring me the receipts. She does from the supermarket. She says the small merchants don't issue them. Good. I can imagine.

    Until she doesn't buy for me anymore, because I notice that she always takes small amounts for herself. The first time I notice it is when I go to buy fish myself. Instead of paying 250 pesos for a pound of tuna, I pay 180. I also get a receipt.

    I am not surprised, but still disappointed. I understand her, the temptation is great. Still, it affects our relationship, I don't trust her anymore. The relationship cools down. She gives less effort with cleaning; we don't eat together anymore.

    When I talk to her about it and we have a discussion, she says at the end that I have enough money. Because of these small amounts. It is true, but it’s not the issue. It’s the trust. This is something she doesn’t understand.

    This is exactly what I experience again and again in tourist centers. The expectation of poorer people to the "rich" tourists giving money, without services in return.
    That you can cheat them and there is nothing wrong with it.

    This expectation always stands between "poor" and "rich", makes a carefree, friendly relationship impossible.    Lue lisää

    Korrumpierte soziale Beziehungen

    Auf meinen Reisen begegne ich verschiedenen Formen von Armut. Ich glaube ich könnte Bücher schreiben.

    Wie sich Armut im aller kleinsten, im unbedeutenden Detail zu entwickeln beginnt und in einer Folgespirale in sozialer-, gesundheitlicher- und Bildungsarmut endet. Wie hier in der Dominikanischen Republik. Zum Beispiel kein gratis Zugang zu sauberem Trinkwasser oder Geld für die Schuluniform. Der soziale Aufstieg bleibt in der Regel auf Generationen hin verwehrt. Dies ist notabene keine „armes“ Land. Es hat alles, es ist „nur“ politisch, ökonomisch und gesellschaftlich korrumpiert.

    Aber darum geht es mir heute nicht. Mich beschäftigt seit vielen Jahren wie Tourismus in „armen“ Ländern die Beziehungen korrumpiert zwischen „arm“ und „reich“.
    Es begegnet mir allerdings nur in Touristenzentren, nicht wo es kaum Tourismus gibt wie zum Beispiel in ländlichen Regionen. Und nicht mit Menschen
    welche selbst „genug haben.“ Wenn sie keinen subjektiven erlebten Mangel empfinden.

    Ich spreche hier von Zentralamerika. In Afrika erlebe ich es nochmal anders.

    Ich nehme als Beispiel meine ehemalige Haushälterin Jilcia hier in Las Terrenas. Sie wurde mir von meinem ehemaligen Spanischlehrer hier empfohlen. Eine absolut vertrauenswürdige Person.

    Sie ist klug, witzig, hilfsbereit und freundlich. Wir essen immer zusammen am Mittag. Wir haben gute Gespräche. Ich vertraue ihr. Sie kauft für mich ein. Ich bezahle sie über dem Marktpreis, weil ich ihr das weitergebe, was meine Krankenkasse bezahlt für die ersten zwei Wochen nach Spitalaustritt.

    Ich bezahle sie offensichtlich so gut, dass sie endlich das Geld für eine Kaution sparen kann, um in ein richtiges Zementhaus zu ziehen. Sie wohnte vorher in einer Holz- und Wellblech Baracke. Sie bedankt sich auch immer wieder.

    Ich merke schon, dass sie genau weiss mit mir umzugehen, um Vertrauen zu schaffen.
    Sie hat gute Menschenkenntnisse. Sie hat Erfahrung mit Touristen.

    Ich glaube ich ignoriere es, weil sie einer der wenigen sozialen Kontakte ist, welche ich noch habe nach dem Claudia gegangen ist.

    Ich bitte sie mir die Quittungen zu bringen. Das tut sie aus dem Supermarkt. Sie sagt die kleinen Händler stellen keine aus. Gut, kann ich mir vorstellen.

    Bis sie nicht mehr für mich einkauft, weil ich merke, dass sie immer kleine Beträge für sich abzwackt. Als erstes merke ich es als ich mal selbst Fisch kaufen gehe. Statt 250 Pesos für das Pfund Thunfisch bezahle ich 180. Ich bekomme auch eine Quittung.

    Ich bin nicht überrascht, aber trotzdem enttäuscht. Ich verstehe sie, die Versuchung ist gross. Trotzdem beeinträchtigt es unsere Beziehung, ich vertraue ihr nicht mehr. Die Beziehung kühlt an. Sie gibt sich keine Mühe mehr beim putzen, wir essen nicht mehr zusammen.

    Als ich sie darauf anspreche und wir eine Diskussion haben meint sie am Schluss, ich habe doch genug Geld. Wegen diesen kleinen Beträgen. Das stimmt wohl ist aber nicht der Punkt. Vertrauen ist der Punkt. Was sie wiederum nicht versteht.

    Das ist genau was ich in Touristenzentren immer wieder erleben. Die Erwartung von ärmeren Menschen an die „reichen“ Touristen, dass sie Geld abgeben, auch ohne Gegenleistung. Dass man sie betrügen kann und das doch nichts Schlimmes dabei ist. Hier, in Cuba, Mexico, Guatemala, etc.

    Diese Erwartungshaltung steht immer zwischen „arm“ und „reich“, macht eine unbeschwerte und vertrauensvolle Beziehung unmöglich. Schade.    Lue lisää

    Rain

    It rains and rains and rains. Not always and all the time but just tropical. Sometimes heavy, sometimes light and then again not.

    When it rains, life practically stands still. This morning the cleaning lady called and said she couldn't come - it was raining, she would get wet. But right now it's not raining.....?

    Yesterday the bachata lesson did not take place- the teacher said he was getting wet on the motoconcho. As he wroteit wasn’t raining ….?

    There is great fear of getting wet and catching a cold.... and yes: umbrellas are sold here...?

    I started StandUp Paddling a week ago - unfortunately only two times. I don't go because I have to take care of my lungs - there is a wind.
    Otherwise, surely that's no reason not to go?    Lue lisää

    Regen - das Leben steht still

    Es regnet und regnet und regnet. Nicht immer und die ganze eit sondern halt tropisch. Mal heftig, mal leicht und dann wieder nicht.

    Wenn es regnet steht das Leben praktisch still. Heute früh hat die Putzfrau angerufen sie könne nicht kommen - es regne, sie werde nass. Also jetzt gerade regnet es nicht.....?

    Gestern fiel die Bachata Stunde - der Lehrer meinte er werde nass auf dem Motoconcho. Als er schrieb regnet es gerade nicht....

    Es besteht grosse Angst nass zu werden und sich zu erkälten.... und ja: Regenschirme werden hier verkauft...?

    Ich habe vor einer Woche mit StandUp Paddling begonnen - leider nur zwei mal. Ich gehe nicht weil ich auf meine Lunge aufpassen muss - es geht ein Wind.
    Ansonsten ist das doch kein Grund nicht zu gehen?    Lue lisää

    Curfew

    When I arrived here in mid-March, there was a curfew. The cases decreased, the curfew was lifted. Since about 14 days the cases are increasing, curfew again. What does a curfew look like here? Dominican!

    From 15.00: no alcohol served in restaurants but stores are allowed to sell. What do the resourceful guests do? They bring the rum to the bar and pour it into the cocktail.

    From 17.00: no swimming in the sea. The police go along the beaches and get the people out of the water :-). Why? Because the Dominicans stand around in the sea on weekends in large groups, close to each other, chatting, laughing, singing- and drinking.

    Between 21.00 and 23.00: Curfew. Because it takes two hours to go home?

    Curfews are climatic and cultural!

    Doesn't matter, life takes place outside here anyway!    Lue lisää

    Ausgangssperre

    Als ich Mitte März hier ankam war Ausgangssperre. Die Fälle sanken, die Sperre wurde aufgehoben. Seit ca. 14 Tage steigen die Fälle, erneute Ausgangsperre. Wie sieht eine Ausgangssperre hier aus? Dominikanisch!

    Ab 15.00: kein Alkoholausschank in Restaurants aber die Geschäfte dürfen verkaufen. Was tun die findigen Gäste? Bringen den Rum in die Kneipe und schütten Ihn in den Cocktail.

    Ab 17.00: Badeverbot im Meer. Die Polizei geht an den Stränden entlang und holt die Leute aus dem Wasser:-). Wieso? Weil die DominikanerInnen am Wochenende in grossen Gruppen, nahe beieinander im Meer rumstehen, quatschen, lachen, singen- und trinken.

    Zwischen 21.00 bis 23.00: Ausgangssperre. Weil man doch zwei Stunden braucht um nach Hause zu gehen?

    Ausgangssperren sind klimatisch und kulturell bedingt!

    Macht alles nix, das Leben findet hier sowieso draussen statt!    Lue lisää

    Data Privacy in the Dominican Republic

    Privacy in the Dominican Republic
    Privacy? Never heard of it. What is that?
    A galactic nightmare for me. I am always so concerned about data protection, do what is possible as a user. It's already an abomination for me to have to communicate via WhatsApp. People don't use other platforms.

    But to get my x-rays, lab results and CT's via WhatsApp???
    I was utterly flabbergasted!
    Never mind, I can't get upset about it anymore.

    Today I went to the clinic for a checkup. I was waiting. In front of me a doctor was talking to his patient about the results of her gastroscopy... Pffff

    The interesting thing is that doctors also communicate with their patients via WhatsApp. In the hospital, after the hospital. The doctors are also after discharge in contact with patients.
    I can ask my doctor a quick question, tell her something. She asks how I'm doing. I find it quite efficient!

    I imagine that admissions and emergencies are reduced this way.

    The whole hospital stay was traumatic. I am now recovering on the beach.

    Data privacy a la Dominicain

    Datenschutz? Was ist das? So kommt es mir in der Klinik vor.

    Ein galaktischer Alptraum für mich. Ich bin immer so sehr auf Datenschutz bedacht, mache was möglich ist als User. Es ist mir schon ein Greuel über WhatsApp kommunizieren zu müssen. Das geht hier nicht anders. Leute benützen keine anderen Plattformen.

    Aber meine Röntgenbilder, Laborresultate und CT’s per WhatsApp zu bekommen???
    Auf Englisch gibt es diesen schönen Ausdruck; Flabbergasted, was so viel heisst wie entgeistert, entsetzt. I was utterly flabbergasted!
    Ach egal, darüber kann ich mich nicht mehr aufregen.

    Heute war ich in der Klinik zur Kontrolle. Ich wartete. Vor mir unterhielt sich ein Arzt mit seiner Patientin über den Befund Ihrer Magenspiegelung… Pffff

    Das Interessante ist, das die Ärzte mit Ihren Patienten auch über WhatsApp kommunizieren. Im Krankenhaus, nach dem Krankenhaus. Die Ärzte sind auch nach Austritt Ansprechperson für die Patienten.
    Ich kann bei meiner Ärztin kurz was nachfragen, was mitteilen. Sie fragt, wie es mir geht. Ich finde es ziemlich effizient!

    Ich stelle mir vor, dass so Einweisungen und Notfälle reduziert werden.

    Der ganze Klinikaufenthalt war traumatisch. Ich erhole mich jetzt am Strand.

    Bloody business of placing accesses

    We have managed to create an average of one new access per day.
    I claim either they can't put in IV's or the material is bad or both.
    The nurse front claims in unison that I move too much. Smear!

    The IV that Mary Tudor the Bloody put in my Oscar-worthy star vein in the left arm slipped out on the third day. Mary Tudor the Bloody was on duty. Yes please, poke me several times and feel free to dig around in my veins with a needle the size of a ballpoint pen refill.
    Finally it works, only for said needle to slip out again after two minutes and a bloodbath takes its course. Mary Tudor the Bloody was already gone. Call.

    Ehhh, yes call with a phone. Didn't I mention there was no emergency button in the room?

    At least it's a push button phone and not one with a rotary dial. I imagine it easier during an incipient stabbing pain in the heart area, gasping for air and in panic mode to tap buttons instead of turning the dial. Yes dear generation Z, there was such a thing!!!

    I hope there is someone on station right now.

    I'm reaching a Grey. Hurray!!! We find a thin, short, almost invisible vein in my left forearm. The Grey makes quick work of it and I already have a plaster on it.

    We are at four accesses in days. By the time I leave, the accesses had to be changed three more times.

    But my blood is nice and fresh and red. I am fascinated every time to see this my lifeblood. I like the drama of it, hence the photos.

    Blutige Geschäft Zugänge zu legen

    Wir haben es geschafft im Schnitt pro Tag einen neuen Zugang zu legen.
    Ich behaupte entweder die können keine Zugänge legen oder das Material ist schlecht oder Beides.
    Die Krankenschwesterfront behauptet unisono ich bewege mich Zuviel. Verleumdung!

    Der Zugang welcher Mary Tudor die Blutige noch auf der Notfallstation in meine oscarverdächtige Star Vene im linken Arm gelegt hat ist am dritten Tag rausgerutscht. Mary Tudor die Blutige hatte gerade Dienst. Ja bitte, stechen Sie mich mehrere Male und wühlen Sie gerne mit der Nadel im Umfang einer Kugelschreibermine in meinen Venen herum. Habe ja weder Schmerzen noch was tun.

    Endlich funktioniert es, nur damit besagte Nadel nach zwei Minuten wieder rausrutscht und ein Blutbad seinen Lauf nimmt. Mary Tudor die Blutige war schon weg. Anrufen.

    Öhhh, ja anrufen mit einem Telefon. Habe ich nicht schon erwähnt, dass es keinen Notfallknopf im Zimmer gibt?

    Immerhin ein Tastentelefon und keines mit Drehscheibe. Ich stelle es mir einfacher vor während einem beginnenden stechenden Schmerz in der Herzgegend, luftschnappend und im Panikkrisenmodus auf Tasten zu tippen, anstatt die Drehscheine zu drehen. Ja liebe Generation Z, sowas gab es!!

    Ich hoffe es ist gerade jemand auf Station.

    Ich erreiche eine Grey. Hurray!! Wir finden eine dünne, kurze, fast unsichtbare Vene in meinem rechten Unterarm. Die Grey macht schnellen Prozess und schon habe ich ein Plaster drauf.

    Wir sind bei vier Zugängen in Tagen. Bis zu meinem Austritt mussten die Zugänge noch dreimal gewechselt werden.

    Aber mein Blut ist schön frisch und rot, ich bin jedes Mal fasziniert dieses mein Lebenselixier zu sehen. Ich mag das Dramatische daran, deshalb auch die Fotos.
    Apropos; Man schaue sich im Video an wie ein Snoopy das Blut aufwischt. Ungeheuer effizient!!!!    Lue lisää

    Fighting for oxygen tank

    In my first room, you remember from episode 1, the air conditioning was running at full blast. Was very indicated with a suspected pneumonia.
    Turns out you couldn't turn it off. The wonders of technology in the Dominican Republic.
    I asked Snoopy if they could move me to a room with adjustable air conditioning. That was on Sunday.

    The same day I am moved to another room. This one also has air conditioning. It is broken but running on the lowest setting.... Technological progress?

    BUT! The room has no connection for the oxygen I desperately need. My saturation is below 90%. I ask Snoopy about it. "Yeah right away"

    At this point I have to make a cultural insertion. I experience two kinds of people here in terms of helpfulness, service orientation and work ethic.
    Woman needs/wants something from them. Nothing crazy like an emergency button in room (there isn’t one) or a PiPi and PuPu vessel. No. Let's say AIR. Good old fashioned air. Some get a mimic tantrum like little kids who don't get a toy and immediately break out in screams and squeeze out googly tears. Let's call them SNOOPY."
    Because you can't do that in your role as a nurse, your facial expressions change in a split second. I-am-the-most-overburdened-of-all-nurses-and-carry-the-entire-burden-of-this-world-on-my-shoulders.

    The other kind are the ones we want in department stores, restaurants, and definitely hospitals. Attentive, charming, comforting, listening, helpful and always looking for a solution. Let's call them GREY.

    I ask different snoopies about oxygen practically every hour. It seems only Snoopies are on the shift.. There are several creative ideas like "The tech just left for lunch". (That was Mary Tudor the Bloody) "There are no filled oxygen tanks right now". "I'm assisting in the OR right now, just had to get something" AHA! "I'm needed in the ICU".

    I can barely sleep that night. The after-hours nurse, a Grey, measures oxygen saturation every hour. Medical values have gotten worse on the third day as well. My body, my immune system was sent in search of the bacteria for three days with more or less targeted antibiotics. Unfortunately, to no avail.

    The next morning, Mary Tudor the Bloody was back on duty. The most efficient Snoopy of all. I ask twice more. _____________________________________________________________

    The next time she comes in she wants to take my values and attach solutions.
    Me: "No."
    She "But..."
    Me: "No!"
    Her: "But I have to do this now".
    Me: "NO!!!"
    Her: "YES!!!"
    Me: " Until I have a filled oxygen tank NOTHING is gonna happen"
    Mary the Bloody rolls her eyes, makes an angry face and stomps off like angry rhino.

    After a while she comes back, it is now 11.00, with a technician and oxygen tank. I can only marvel and wonder where both the tank and the technician emerged from. UFO?Hell? Outerspace?
    Everything is hooked up, oxygen is turned on____________, no bubbles, no oxygen available. It is empty........

    Carted away, new one comes up. Finally. What salvation what relief. I wallow in fresh oxygen.

    I'm used to heavy breathing, Breathing so poorly for almost 24 hours takes me to my physical, emotional and mental limits very quickly.

    The snoopies in this hospital are clearly the majority. Things like water or a chair for the guest should probably materialize on their own. They make a face like I asked them to wash my feet.
    It may be required of four chattering and rumor spreading snoopies to WORK something for a change or not?

    The only thing that always and always comes on time is the food. I have a "Chef" who comes by three times a day and asks me what I to eat. It always comes on time and it is delicious. Too bad I am not hungry or have an appetite. He is a SUPER GREY.

    Kampf um gefüllten Sauerstofftank

    In meinem ersten Zimmer, ihr erinnert euch aus Episode 1, lief die Klimaanlage auf vollen Touren. War sehr angezeigt bei einer vermuteten Lungenentzündung.
    Stellte sich heraus, dass man sie nicht abstellen konnte. Die Wunder der Technik in der Dominikanischen Republik.
    Ob man mich in Zimmer mit einer regulierbaren Klimaanlage verlegen könnte? Frage ich Snoopy? Das war am Sonntag.

    Gleichentags werde ich in ein anderes Zimmer verlegt. Diese hat auch eine Klimaanlage. Sie ist zwar defekt aber im Sinne auf der tiefsten Stufe laufend. Okeeee

    ABER! Das Zimmer hat keinen Anschluss für den Sauerstoff, den ich dringend brauche. Meine Sättigung liegt unter 90%. Ich frage Snoopy danach. «Ja gleich»

    An dieser Stelle muss ich einen kulturellen Einschub machen. Ich erlebe bezüglich Hilfsbereitschaft, Dienstleistungsorientierung und Arbeitsmoral zwei Sorten Menschen hier.
    Frau braucht/möchte etwas von Ihnen. Nichts verrücktes wie z.B. ein Notfall Knopf im Zimmer oder PiPi und PuPu Gefässe. Nein. Sagen wir mal: LUFT! Die einen bekommen einen mimischen Wutanfall wie kleine Kinder, welche ein Spielzeug nicht bekommen und gleich in Geschrei ausbrechen sowie Kullertränen hervordrücken. Nennen wir sie «Snoopy»
    Weil das in Ihrer Rolle als Krankenschwester nicht geht verwandelt sich die Mimik von hier auf jetzt. Ich-bin-die-überlasteste-aller-vereinigten-Krankenschwestern-und-trage-die-ganze-Last-dieser-Welt-auf -meinen-Schultern.

    Die andere Sorte sie diejenigen wie wir sie uns in Kaufhäusern, Restaurants und ganz bestimmt in Krankenhäuser wünschen. Zugewandt, charmant, tröstend, zuhörend, hilfsbereit und immer um eine Lösung bemüht. Nennen wir sie Grey.

    Ich frage verschiedene Snoopies praktisch jede Stunde nach dem Sauerstoff. Es gibt verschiedene kreative Ideen «Der Techniker ist gerade zum Essen gegangen». (Das war Mary Tudor die Blutige) «Es gibt gerade keine gefüllten Sauerstoffflaschen». «Ich bin gerade im OP am assistieren, musste nur was holen» AHA! «Ich werde auf der Intensivstation gebraucht»

    Ich kann kaum schlafen in dieser Nacht. Die Nachschwester, eine Grey, misst jede Stunde die Sauerstoffsättigung. Befunde sind am dritten Tag auch schlechter geworden. Mein Körper, mein Immunsystem war drei Tage lang unter Artilleriefeuer mit mehr oder weniger zielgenauen Antibiotika. Auf die Suche nach den Bösen Bakterien. Leider erfolglos.

    Am nächsten Morgen hat Mary Tudor die Blutige wieder Dienst. Der effizienteste Snoopy von allen. Ich frage noch zweimal. _____________________________________________________________

    Als sie das nächste Mal reinkommt will Sie mir Werte nehmen und Lösungen anhängen.
    Ich: «Nein».
    Sie »Aber…»
    Ich: «Nein!»
    Sie: «Aber ich muss das jetzt tun»
    Ich: «NEIN!!!»
    Sie: «DOCH!!»
    Ich: « Bevor ich hier keine gefüllte Sauerstoffflasche habe machen Sie gar NICHTS.»
    Mary die Blutige rollt die Augen, macht ein wütendes Gesicht und stampft wie wütendes Nashorn davon.

    Nach einer Weile kommt sie wieder, es ist inzwischen 11.00, mit Techniker und Sauerstoffflasche. Alles wird angehängt, Sauerstoff wird aufgedreht____________, kein Sauerstoff vorhanden. Sie ist leer.

    Weggekarrt, neue gebracht, endlich. Welche Erlösung welche Erleichterung. Ich suhle mich in frischem Sauerstoff.

    Ich bin an schweres Atmen gewöhnt, So schlecht atmen für beinahe 24 Stunden führt mich ganz schnell an meine körperlichen, emotionalen und geistigen Grenzen.

    Die Snoopies in diesem Krankenhaus sind eindeutig in der Überzahl. Dinge wie Wasser oder einen Stuhl für den Gast sollte sich wahrscheinlich von allein materialisieren. Sie machen ein Gesicht als hätten ich sie gefragt mir meine Füsse zu waschen.
    Es kann von vier schwatzenden und Gerüchte verbreitenden Snoopies mal verlangt werden, was zu ARBEITEN – oderrrrrrr?

    Das Einzige was immer und immer pünktlich kommt ist das Essen. Ich habe einen «Chef» welcher drei Mal am Tag vorbei kommt und mich fragt was ich essen möchte. Es kommt immer pünktlich und es ist lecker. Schade habe ich weder Hunger noch Appetit. Er ist eine SUPER GREY.

    Fight for PIPI and PUPU container

    Those who know me will immediately swear under oath to the statement "Claudia can prevail" without contradiction.

    But what if I am in a foreign culture, only halfway able to speak the language and very ill, lying down in the hospital exhausted, demoralized and practically deprived of any self-control? Let's see. Always ask nicely first.

    Around me is the suspicion of a gastrointestinal imfection. And SURELY a bacterial one which immediately requires the general miracle drug. No, not the same antibiotic as the one for the suspected pneumonia. OTHER! NEW! There is a legitimate question if the doctors are not involved per dose percentage.

    Still in the ER, my attending physician instructs me NOW to produce PIPI and PUPU and leave it to these ominous lab people.
    I am sure others can produce NOW. I can't do it by order and decree.
    Do I want to? After all, this is something highly personal. What if there is a PIPI and PUPU fetishist among the lab people? Would be the perfect place to work! God knows what he does with it??? That is highly embarrassing.

    Well, Mary Tudor the Bloody is being commissioned to create a suitable container for it.

    This is the line that shows on the monitor in a hospital wether the connected living being is still with us or not.
    This is the motivation level of Mary Tudor the Bloody to organize said vessels. Just to clarify, no one told her to do MAGIC.

    Next day, Monday, in the room, I ask the nurse on the morning shift about it.
    Same day, I ask the evening shift nurse about it.

    Tuesday, same thing. Meanwhile, I wonder. Are the containers made of silver and flogged by hospital staff in the vessels-for-PIPI-and-PUPU market? Did they run out? Has there been a gastroenteritis tsunami in Las Terrenas?

    Next day Wednesday. The doctor asks, you know. How now ? Without....you know. A nurse is called and assigned to... The visit ends, the container does not manifest.

    Since I did not need these containers necessarily I did not ask particularly energetically for it. Very kindly twice a day.

    On Thursday the universe has mercy and a miracle happens. The PIPI-and-PUPU containers are here!!! Cheers! Happiness!! Delight!! Let’s celebrate!!🙄🙄🙄

    I'm constipated now, though.

    The next thing I'm fighting over is a mobile filled oxygen tank. This was a slightly more urgent container.
    When you're on multiple IV’s and can barely move, it's a real pain to go to war just so you can breathe properly.    Lue lisää

    Kampf um das PIPI und PUPU Behältnis

    Wer mich kennt wird die Aussage «Claudia kann sich durchsetzen» sofort und ohne Widerspruch unter Eid beschwören.

    Aber was, wenn ich einer fremden Kultur bin, der Sprache nur halbwegs mächtig und sehr krank im Krankenhaus erschöpft, demoralisiert und praktisch jeglicher Selbstkontrolle beraubt darnieder liege? Mal sehen. Immer mal erst freundlich fragen.

    Um mich schwirrt noch der Verdacht einer Magen-Darmerkrankung. Und SICHER eine bakterielle welche sofort das generelle Wundermittel erfordert. Nein, nicht das Gleiche Antibiotika wie dasjenige für die vermutete Lungenentzündung. ANDERE! NEUE! Es stellt sich die legitime Frage ob die Ärzte nicht pro Dosis prozentual beteiligt sind.

    Noch auf der Notfallstation beauftragt mich meine behandelnde Ärztin JETZT gleich mal PIPI und PUPU zu produzieren und diesen ominösen Labormenschen zu überlassen.
    Ich bin sicher andere können NOW produzieren. Ich kann das nicht auf Befehl und per erlassenes Dekret hin.
    Will ich das? Schliesslich ist das etwas höchst persönliches. Was wenn sich unter den Labormenschen ein PIPI und PUPU Fetischist tummelt? Wäre der perfekte Arbeitsort! Weiss Gott was der damit anstellt??? Das ist doch hochnotpeinlich.

    Gut, Mary Tudor die Blutige wird beauftragt ein geeignetes Behältnis dafür herbei zu schaffen.

    Die Linie, welche in einem Krankenhaus auf dem Monitor anzeigt ob das angeschlossene Lebewesen noch unter uns weilt oder eben nicht mehr.
    Das ist der Motivationsgrad von Mary Tudor der Blutigen besagte Gefässe herbei zu schaffen. Nur um das zu klären, niemand hat gesagt sie solle es herbei ZAUBERN.

    Nächster Tag, Montag, auf dem Zimmer, frage ich die Krankenschwester der Morgenschicht danach.
    Gleichentags frage ich die Krankenschwester der Abendschicht danach.

    Dienstag das Gleiche. Unterdessen frage ich mich. Sind die Behältnisse aus Silber und werden vom Krankenhaus Personal im Gefässe-für-PIPI-und-PUPU- Markt verscherbelt? Sind sie ausgegangen? Gab es einen Magendarm erkrankungs-tsunami in Las Terrenas?

    Nächster Tag Mittwoch. Die Ärztin fragt nach, ihr wisst schon. Wie denn jetzt ? Ohne….ihr wisst schon. Eine Krankenschwester wird zitiert und beauftragt. Die Visite endet, das Behältnis manifestiert sich nicht.

    Da ich diese Behältnisse nicht unbedingt brauchte habe ich nicht besonders energisch danach gefragt. Sehr freundlich zweimal am Tag.

    Am Donnerstag erbarmt sich das Universum und ein Wunder geschieht. Die PIPI-und-PUPU Gefässe sind da!!! Jubel! Heiterkeit!

    Ich bin jetzt aber verstopft.

    Das nächste um was ich kämpfe ist ein mobiler gefüllter Sauerstofftank. Das war ein etwas dringlicheres Behältnis.
    Wenn Frau an Schläuchen hängt und sich kaum bewegen kann, ist es echt mühsam in den Krieg zu ziehen nur damit man gescheit atmen kann.    Lue lisää
