    Day 488: Geiranger Fjord

    June 17, 2018 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Out early and lots of driving again, heading south-west this time. Lots of epic scenery around as we entered fjord country - tall rugged mountains with snow, deep valleys, lakes, serene fjords, tumbling waterfalls and roaring rapids too.

We were in and out of the car for much of the day but had a great time checking everything out. Early evening we made camp in the town of Geiranger which is one of the typical cruise ship destinations within Norway, even giant ones like the Queen Mary 2 have been in here. No cabins available at either campsite so we just used the tent.

The fjord here is a world heritage site (jointly with another fjord 100km that we'll visit in a few days), so we did a bunch of filming as well.

    Geirangerfjorden vaateplatvorm 2

    July 15, 2016 in Norway ⋅

    July 27, 2014 in Norway ⋅

Read more

    May 16, 2016 in Norway ⋅

Since we had taken our time driving to Geiranger in the morning and had stopped here and there to take pictures or enjoy nice views, we were quite late at our actual destination. According to the ferry timetables I had researched before, we didn't have much time to spend in town, so we went up the hills out of town to look for Flydalsjuvet. We (I) wanted to find the famous spot to take pictures above the canyon, but we didn't make it in time. Instead we came accross this great installation called Fjordsetet. As you can see, we had a great view from there over Geiranger, and you can also see Ornesvingen and Ornesvegen on the far right. :)

Again, thanks to the off-season we had the place alomst to ourselves and no problems with parking.
