      Auf der peruanischen Seite ging es für uns 90 Minuten mit einem Kayak zu den Uros Floating Islands. Die schwimmenden Inseln werden von den Einwohnern selber gebaut. Dafür werden Teile des Festlandes abgeschnitten und miteinander verbunden.

      Die Inseln benötigen auch eine Art Anker, da man ansonsten „am nächsten Tag in Bolivien aufwacht“, wie sie selber sagen.

      Anschließend ging es noch mit einem Speedboat weiter auf die indigenen Insel Taquile. Dort leben mehr als 3.000 Indigene ihr traditionelles Leben.      Read more

      Islas Flottantes Uros &Amantani/Taquille

      Les iles flottantes d’Uros en face de la ville de Puno sont habitées par plus de 300 familles. Elles vivent littérallement sur le lac Titicaca en profitant de la flotaison des roseaux. Ces familles s’étaient réfugiées pour fuir les colons espagnols et la tradition perdure.
      Les iles Amantani et Taquile sont elles toujours habitées en vivant en autonomie grâce à leur agriculture en terrasse sous un beau soleil sans stress et sans modernité (pas d’eau chaude et pas d’internet).      Read more

      Islas de los Uros

      Wir haben uns für eine 2-tägige Tour auf dem Titicacasee entschieden, um verschiedene Abenteuer zu erleben. Los geht's mit dem Kayak von Puno zu den schwimmenden Schilfinseln Uros. Schon nach kurzer Zeit ist uns klar, dass das genau die richtige Entscheidung war, denn statt mit dem Schnellboot direkt nach Uros zu fahren, genießen wir umgeben von Schilf und Vögeln die Ruhe der Natur.

      In Uros angekommen legen wir an einer der Schilfinseln an. Jetzt wirds zwar touristisch, aber auch sehr informativ. Die Einwohner dieser kleinen Insel sind inzwischen auf Tourismus spezialisiert, sind doch die Besucher hier inzwischen nahezu deren einzige Einnahmequelle. Wir erfahren, dass die Inseln von Flüchtlingen aus den bolivianischen Minen noch vor der Inkazeit gegründet wurden. Da sie wegen anderer Kriegsvölker auf den Bergen rund ums heutige Puno nicht an Land gehen konnten, begannen sie ein Leben auf dem See. Heute gibt es ungefähr 130 Schilfinseln mit etwa 2.500 Einwohnern. Das teure Leben in der Stadt ist für die meisten Einwohner hier keine Alternative zum primitiven aber günstigen Leben auf den Inseln.

      Nach diesem Stopp schippern wir noch einige Zeit mit dem Kayak umher und erkunden die Gegend weiter. Die Bauwerke der Einheimischen sind wirklich interessant. Schließlich legen wir an einer der Inseln an und dann geht es mit dem Boot weiter, denn unser Titicacasee-Erlebnis ist noch nicht zu Ende.      Read more

      De See isch knapp 16x(!!!!) grösser wie de Bodesee und isch de höchschtglegeni schiffbari See vode Welt. Uf 3810 Meter üM isch d'Luft mängisch immerno chli dünn für ois.
      Me weiss, dass die Bewohner fascht nume no für de Tourismus läbed und de zahlende Chunde ihri Kultur zeiged. Me isch immer chli gspalte, ob das etz e gueti Sach isch oder nöd. Tatsach isch jedoch, dass sie sich öppis händ müesse ifalle lah, zum überläbe. Drum mached au mir bi dem touristische Uusfluug mit.
      Aber es isch würkli interessant z'gseh, wie die Insle uufbaut sind und wie die Bewohner hüt no deet läbed (au wenn nume für Tourischte).

      Nachher isches wiiter gange uf Taquile, e superschöni Insle ufem Titicacasee. Für mich en rächte Dämpfer, will ich fascht nöd han chönne laufe. De Puls isch jewiils uf über 140 und bim Laufe isch mers regelässig schwarz vor Auge worde. Nöd di beschti Voruussetzig für oise Inka Trail.

      Lake Titicaca, Peru

      We had two stops on Lake Titicaca. The first was the city of Puno, which was a surprisingly big city with plenty of historical streets and good restaurants. It is said to be the gateway to Lake Titicaca. In the afternoon, we took a boat trip to the floating islands. These are man-made islands in the middle of the lake. The indigenous people make the islands by weaving reeds. The owners demonstrated how the islands were made and showed us where they lived. Although it was freezing on the island, it is unsafe for the families to have fires for cooking or keeping warm. They also have to change the flooring by adding dry reeds, two to three times a month!

      The next day we crossed to the Bolivian side of the lake, to a town called Copacabana. Here, we took another boat trip out to the sun island, which was named by the Inca people. We did a short hike on the island and visited some of the Inca sites before returning to turn. That evening, we crossed the lake by ferry to reach La Paz in Bolivia.      Read more

      Noch auf der peruanischen Seite besuchen wir den Titikakasee. Der höchstgelegene, befahrbare See auf der ganzen Welt, wir befinden uns auf 3800m über N.N.
      Unser erster Stopp führt uns zu den schwimmenden Inseln aus Schilf. Hier leben die Aymaras (ein anderes Volk neben den Quechuas hier in Peru), die auch ihre eigene Sprache sprechen.
      Die Inseln bewegen sich mit den Wellen mit, die Häuser sind ebenfalls aus Schilf gebaut und ihre Fortbewegungsmittel natürlich auch. Die bekannten Schilfboote vom Titicaca See (falls ihr an der Geschichte der Boote interessiert seid, googelt doch mal nach Thor Heyerdahl oder Kontiki und lasst euch überraschen. Es gibt auch einen schönen Film zu der Geschichte, Kontiki)

      Auch wir setzten mit einem dieser selbstgebauten Schilfschiffe auf eine andere kleine, schwimmende Schilfinsel über. Dabei trafen wir den wohl süßesten Peruaner auf unserer Reise.      Read more

      Lago Titicaca e Islas de los Uros 🛖🛶

      Nadie se podía esperar lo que nos esperaba a continuación. Vamos al pequeño embarcadero en el que nos recoge Gladis, nuestra anfitriona, para llevarnos en barca a nuestra casita 🛶

      Gladis nos hace un tour en barca por las Islas Flotantes de los Uros y nos deja MUY sorprendidos. Se trata de un conjunto de 120 superficies artificiales habitables construidas de Totora, una planta acuática que crece en la superficie del lago Titicaca. Los habitantes de la comunidad la tejen y ponen capas de ramas tendidas una encima de otra para construir la superficie de cada isla 🛖

      En el tour aprendemos sobre la comunidad (su subsistencia se basa en la caza, la pesca, la venta de tejidos y la organización de tours de algunas horas por las islas) y también somos conscientes del territorio que ocupan, observando las diferentes islas y sus edificaciones flotantes, como las iglesias o las escuelas.

      Al llegar a nuestra isla, nos damos cuenta de que nuestra casita está en la propia isla de los anfitriones (Isaac y Gladis). Allí hay varias casas de Totora en las que viven varias familias y nosotros vamos a dormir en la misma isla flotante 😃

      Llegamos justo al atardecer y vemos el sol ponerse entre las montañas 🌄😍 Abrimos unas cervezas cusqueñas y brindamos por la vida mientras cenamos con vistas al lago Titicaca y Puno de noche. Los colores del cielo y del agua son preciosos 🏝️🌃

      Mientras cenamos tranquilamente nos damos cuenta de que no tenemos Soles suficientes para pagarle a Isaac la estancia de esta noche y por supuesto no tenemos dónde ir a sacar dinero. Estamos aislados en la Isla hasta mañana 🥲

      Por suerte, conseguimos llegar a un acuerdo con él y nos hará trabajar unos días tejiendo Totora para cumplir con nuestra penitencia por vagos y maleantes. Mucho comprar souvenirs en Puno pero eso de pagar a nuestros maravillosos anfitriones... Buena imagen estamos dando de los turistas españoles 😂      Read more

      Cusco & Machu Picchu.

      We hopped back aboard the Bolivia Hop bus from Copacabana and chuffed off onto Peru. A very eventful bus trip that incorporated a crash, some Dr Kappa emergency care and some food poisoning dilemmas we reached Cusco. Here we met our new group for the next few days where we would embark on our hike in the Peruvian mountains. The first few days before the hike were spent with most of our team down with food poisoning but still somehow soldiering on. Luckily enough we were all feeling marginally better the first day of the hike. We began by trekking a small way up hill to our first camp site for the night. It was chilly but we were thankful for some very good sleeping bags.
      Day two we were aroused early (5am) and we marched directly upwards for about 6 hours. High altitude, post food poisoning and high inclines made the hike upwards difficult but with the anticipation of the top we carried on. We reached the summit of our hike at about 12:30pm. At 4,800m above sea level the view was amazing. The snow capped mountains and lagoons made it well worth the effort! After this we all knew it was all downhill from there! The views on the way down were amazing as well. We strolled along a clear stream surrounded by lush flora. The Brits of our group complained a lot and were fed up with our ‘Australian positivity.’ After many laughs and hoots we made it to our campsite and collapsed in a tired heap in our tents. 19km, 28,000 steps, 155 floors climbed combined with altitude made this the hardest day of the trek but what an effort.
      Our last day of the trek was a breeze. We woke up at a dreamy 7am and continued our descent through some Inca ruins and back along the stream.
      We hopped on the bus at about 12 and continued on to our lunch spot where we ate like kings for our final meal as a big group of 15.
      On we bussed to Ollyantambo and onto a train to take us to Aguas Calientes. The gateway to the mighty Machu Picchu (old mountain).
      Machu Picchu today (Saturday). I learnt two things: the Incans were incredibly intelligent and strong, and humans are not that great now days.
      An awesome sight to see and amazing views all around! Sadly, so many tourists!! After a great last day with our group exploring these ruins it’s time to head back to Cusco for the night.

      Homestay and kayaking

      Time to get to work!
      Woke up fairly early, around 6/6:30 to help mama in the kitchen before breakfast... breakfast was so tasty, fried bread with jam and egg... think I put on weight just from that!
      Next task was to take the sheep and the llama down to the field... we were given some cool hats to wear as the sun was very strong! I looked after the llama, he was called Carlos 🤣 he was a greedy Carlos!
      Once the animals were secure we had to sort through dehydrated potatoes to get rid of all the soil, leaves and straw... dehydrated potatoes are a key part of the diet in peru as they are abundant and Peruvians do not waste any food!
      Our jobs were pretty easy and chill in comparison to some of the gang who had to hand plough fields 😬
      I opted to go kayaking in the lake with Isaac, Delin, Essy, Harvey and Zack... was a lot of fun, Isaac and I shared a kayak, he is quite risk averse, so was constant 'Anna, you're going to capsize us!' And when Harvey and Zack suggested a race his reaction was 'Don't encourage her!!!' 😂      Read more
