Winelands

Heute geht es nach Stellenbosch und Franschhoek. Die Winelands gehören zu den beliebtesten Regionen im ganzen Land. Der Weinanbau wird dort schon seit dem 17. Jahrhundert betrieben und es gibt etwa 800 Weingüter. Als erstes ging es zum Waterfort Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. Nach einem kurzen Rundgang fuhren wir aufgrund des noch frühen Vormittags, ohne Weinprobe weiter ins Babylonstoren Wine Estade. In diesem Weingut werden neben Wein auch noch Obst und Gemüse angebaut. Im gemütlichen Gartenrestaurant ließen wir uns einen leckeren Salat mit einem Büffelburger schmecken.Read more

stayed at pia‘s flat in stellenbosch and celebrated PIAS BIRTHDAY 🎉🥳
the birthday girl wished for a day in nature so we went on a lovely hike in the mountains 🏔️🥰and added ANOTHER wine tasting to our plans;)
spend our last day together back in the bush, which was such a full circle moment. We booked a guided horse safari near Stellenbosch and it was so so lovely 🥰
cooked our beloved BUSH DINNER (pup, spinach, chackalacka and veggie schnitzel) for our last evening together🥰😋
the tears were flowing but we were so incredibly happy and grateful for the time we got to spend together… this was an adventure that no one can take away from us ☺️🫶🏻Read more

Stellenbosch is an absolutely lovely town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It lies surrounded by the Stellenbosch Mountains in the Jonkershoek River Valley and is famous for Wine.

Surrounded by wine estate, the town is abuzz with hotels, wine shops, cafés, restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and museums. Many buildings are in Cape Dutch architecture and everything looks wonderful and clean. The people are very friendly and helpful and the food is delicious!

We stayed in an apartment in mits of the town.

Mer sind also ehn ganze Tag uf ehn Wiitour. Sind vo eim Wiiguet zum andere gfahre worde und händ überall verschiednigi Wiisorte chönne probiere. Es hed au immer no chli Häppli gäh und natürlich Infos öberd Wii und Gschicht vo de Wiigüeter.

Wo mer zrug cho sind hämmer de zerst im Hostel chli Billiard gspielt und sind denn ih es chlises härzigs Restaurant go ässe.Read more

Driving through South Africa

We had a 4.30 start to get packed up, have breakfast and say our final farewell to Chui and our driver Often, who has been amazing on the whole trip. A hired big bus and a short while later we had crossed the boarder into South Africa. We have loved our time in Namibia and would like to return one day to explore it more in a 4x4 by ourselves. We then took all day, until 6pm, to reach Stellenbosch, in the south of the country about 1 hour away from Cape Town. Not ideal when Lou spent the whole time feeling nauseous from our first illness in nearly 18 months of travel. On the up side we managed to see some of the DH World Champs on tv when we got there, something that's not shown on tv at home! James enjoyed a meal out at one of the many bars in town with sone of the crew.Read more

Lyndsay McDonnell So sorry that Louisa has not been well and hope that it is only a mild dose and she will soon feel much better, (I am sure you have plenty of medical supplies to hand to help). Although the truck looks uncomfortable for long journeys I expect you were sorry to say goodbye to it and the driver. Have fun, love xxxx

Das Wetter war eher grau angesagt und wir haben die Zeit genutzt den Blog à jour zu bringen und wir konnten unsere hübsche kleine Wohnung auf einem Weingut geniessen. Bei doch recht nettem Wetter haben wir dann noch das Grundstück erkundet. Das absolute Highlight: Wir konnten einen ganz kurzen Blick auf einen sehr seltenen Gast erhaschen: ein Caracal schlich durch das hohe Gras und hat natürlich sofort das Weite gesucht bei unserem Anblick. Auch wenn der Moment sehr kurz war, war diese unerwartete Begegnung toll! Für ein Foto hat es leider bei Weitem nicht gereicht.Read more

We had planned on going on a wine tour for the day with the group but decided against it since Lou had been sick the previous day so spent the day around this beautiful town. There are so many bars, restaurants and coffee shops so had to sample some of them. We got invited into a coffee shop's roasting room to see how they roast their beans daily. The town has 12,000 students at a university there and is quite lively. The houses, shops and cafes give it a lovely European feel but are much cheaper than any where in Europe. Once our group were back we had a transfer to Cape Town for our official last night of our 75 night tour. The majority of us went out and had a really nice meal in a local restaurant before staying in a hostel directly in the shadow of Table Mountain.Read more

Walking around Stellenbosch

Today I had my appointment to pick up my student card! So I used the way from the dorms to the office to take some shots of Victoria Street, a beautiful alley close to campus. Most university buildings have a very elegant, colonial-style facades and you can find this type of architecture all across Stellenbosch. The whole town has a very special flair. An incredibly striking picture were the naked trees standing just next to palms giving you an unsual sensation of being in the middle of a "tropical winter".

After picking my student ID I met my "matie buddy" Barend. A matie buddy is a local student that has volunteered to advice and orient exchange students during their time in Stellenbosch. We meet Viviane, a Brazilian girl from Sao Paulo, and Gladys, who studies in Monterrey, México. Our Matie buddy Barend was born in an Afrikaans family from Port Elizabeth but he lived in Peru for several years and speaks perfect Spanish. So maybe there's no surprise that he got matched as a matie buddy for the Latin American crew! 💃🇧🇷🇵🇪🇲🇽🇬🇹

Barend took us to one of his favorite restaurants and Franzi, a german Theology student, and Teddy a food science student from Johannesburg, joined us for lunch. Afterwards we go for a walk at Stellenbosch botanical garden, which as very quiet and peaceful place to just walk and take a deep breath. And it was also a great spot for a photosession with some shots by Teddy! 📸Read more

Vorbei mit der Ruhe ...

Nachdem wir heute erstmals die von Google berechnete Zeit eingehalten haben, kamen wir gegen 12 Uhr in der Universitätsstadt Stellenbosch mitten in den Winelands an. Je näher wir Kapstadt kamen, desto mehr Verkehr herrschte und umso voller, lauter und heißer wurden die Städte und Straßen. Hier sind 35 Grad und mindestens 90 Prozent Luftfeuchtigkeit!🤪😅

Unser Life&Leisure Guesthouse liegt nur wenige Minuten von der Innenstadt entfernt. Wie haben ein gaues Stockwerk für uns, mit drei Schlafzimmer und zwei Bädern sehr großzügig. Für uns allerdings befremdlich sind die vielen vergitterten Fenster. Sogar bevor man unser Stockwerk betritt, gibt es ein großes Meetallgitter. Da unsere Zimmer noch nicht fertig waren, stellten wir unser Gepäck ab und machten uns direkt auf in die Innenstadt.
Nach über einer Woche abseits von Städten und Menschenansammlungen war das wie ein Schock. Wir fühlten uns bei dem Gewusel erst mal gar nicht wirklich wohl. 😎

In der Innenstadt war kurioserweise alles dunkel und wir dachten erst, die Läden wären mittags zu. Erst als wir in der Mall dann plötzlich einen in der Drehtür feststecken sahen, wurde uns klar, dass der Strom weg war. 😉 Auf Nachfragen wurde uns dann gesagt, dass der Strom um 14.30 Uhr wieder da wär. Warum das schon klar war, hat uns dann völlig irritiert. Deshalb haben wir mal gegoogelt. 😁https://www.kapstadtmagazin.de/stromausfall
Scheint hier wohl öfters vorzukommen. 😀

Uns nahm das aber die Entscheidung ab und wir kehrten erstmal zurück ins Guesthouse. 😁

Heute Abend waren wir zum Abschluss nochmal lecker essen. Lustigerweise in einem Restaurant mit einer steirischen Chefin, die seit 1982 hier lebt. Ihren Dialekt hab ich aber sofort richtig identifiziert. 😊🤣

So, und morgen geht es dann tatsächlich schon wieder nach Hause. Mit mindestens 5 kg Übergepäck , allerdings nicht im Koffer🤰🏻, 😊😂😂 Tausenden von Fotos und vielen schönen Erinnerungen und Momenten! 😋😜Read more
