      off to the museum

      we were trying to find the municipal museum as it has a good archeology section, but we were having a hard time finding it. we ended up back in the plaza maria auxiliadoe where we had walked down last night. no worries there was a nice Spanish guitarist playing so we just sat and listened and ate more cookies. eventually we did find the museum in the Palacio de mondragon- it was a moorish palace at one time, today it is the municipal museum.there are 3 architectural styles: mudejar style patio, the castilian style patio, portico and wood beams, works done in the 17th century and then the entrance patio also from the 17th century and remodeled in 18th this was the one with the red arches. . there was a lot of written info on the prehistoric and caves in the area....there are a lot of caves. some nice recreations or dioramas and a few artifacts. the patio courtyard is a part of the building from the moorish times.Leia mais

      lower walls

      it is windy after the concert so we head back to the car to get our sweaters. we want to go back to the west side of ronda where we were last night at the Puente del viente or windy gate to catch the sunset from tbe next gate which was arco del Cristo. we take the lower arab bridge on the east side and walk the lower walls. we end up on a steep set of stairs going up close.to iglesia del esliatus santo- the holy spirit church. it is of brown ashlar masonary built on top of an old mosque in gothic renaissance style. we pass iglesia ma auxilliadora.- shrine of Mary Helper of Christians, the beautiful large white and yellow church built on the highest point in Ronda. now we find another set of steep stairs these ones going down to calla del prado nuevo which will turn into ctra de los molinos. this is the road that connects o the path going to the puente del viento gate and then down to the arco del cristo.Leia mais

      dinner at el campillo

      we walk up the same path we did the night before, but this time in dusk. we get to the top and el campillo is the restaurant right there so we sit down and eat. we had passed 3 English ladies asking where the gates were on our way up. As we are finishing our meals they will come back up and will have a drink at this same restaurant. they are keen travelers so good conversation with them. I had the biggest leg of baby goat, it was good but enormous and colin had the Iberia sirloin pork also very good. my water in the beautiful blue bottle cost the same as Colin's beer! this restaurant is on the plaza maria auxiladaria and has a lovely sunset view. after dinner on our way back to the car we will pass an old mineratre- minarete de san sebastian which was converted to the belfry of san sebastian church. tbe church is no longer there but the mineratte still stands. we found our way to the puerta de filipe v gate and over the upper bridge-puenta virgo through the padre jesus neighborhood which is now very quiet and back to the car.Leia mais

      Ronda Stellplatz

      Wir fahren auf einen richtigen städtischen Stellplatz, weil uns das Wasser ausgegangen ist und wir keine andere Möglichkeit zum auffüllen finden. Da wir hier auch Wäsche waschen und duschen können, bleiben wir einfach direkt über Nacht und erledigen das einmal. Alles ist hier nagelneu auf dem Platz, somit sauber und freundlich.
      Freuen uns auf Ronda!
      Haben uns schlussendlich entschieden, einfach zwei Nächte zu bleiben. Ein Reisender hat uns auch wieder entdeckt, was uns öfter mal passiert und irgendwie lustig ist.
      Die Nächte waren ruhig und es war mal schön, einfach Tisch, Stühle und Legras Korb draußen stehen lassen zu können. Ja, wir entdecken zwischendurch die Annehmlichkeiten von offiziellen Stellplätzen..      Leia mais

      15ter Stopp Ronda

      Moin Leute,

      heute sind wir weiter nach Ronda. Der EDDI schnurrt wieder wie ein Kätzchen. Musste er auch. Die Strecke nach Ronda ging durch unzählige Kreisel und danach wie durch die Serpentinen bis auf über 1100 Meter über Normal Null hoch. Auf dem Stellplatz angekommen bekamen wir am Automaten an der Schranke ein Ticket obwohl der Stellplatz schon restlos voll war (das wussten wir aber erst als wir auf dem Platz standen) . Auch nach uns fuhr noch ein Wagen drauf. Nun kurvten und guckten wir ahnungslos um uns rum. Um den Stellplatz wieder verlassen zu können, hätten wir den vollen Tagespreis am Automaten zahlen müssen. Aber das Paar welches nach uns noch auf den Platz fuhr, hatte wohl schlechte Laune und forderte uns auf Platz zu machen damit sie durch die Schranke raus kommen. In dem Moment kam ein Mitcamper auf mich zu und sagte, dass er jetzt einen Platz frei mache, da er weiter fährt... Na, das nenne ich doch mal Schicksal 😀
      Nun bleiben wir 2 Nächte. Heute chillen und morgen wieder Stadtbesichtigung. Wettervorhersage: Sonne und 17 Grad. Das wird toll!

      Rund um Ronda herum

      habe ich mittlerweile schon einige sehr interessante Ziele besucht. Am heutigen Sonntag kommt ein weiteres hinzu. Setinel de la Bodegas. Die weißen Häuser schmiegen sich in und über die Felsen des Tals, welches das Flüsschen Guadalporcún in den Stein gegraben hat. Am Sonntag ist hier natürlich besonders viel los. Alle Restaurants sind bestens besucht, kein Wunder bei sommerlichen Temperaturen von 25 Grad. Zuvor habe ich die arabischen Bäder in Ronda besucht, sehr beeindruckend. Auch die Rückfahrt führt noch einmal nach Ronda. Hier darf im Tal vor der Brücke die Drohne noch einmal aufsteigen und hoffentlich beeindruckende Bilder machen.Leia mais

      Wie geht's weiter? Hinterland wir kommen

      Wohin geht es als nächstes?
      Diese Frage ist gar nicht so leicht zu beantworten.

      Unser angepeiltes Ziel, die Küstenlinie bei Gibraltar wurde es nicht.
      Die nächsten Tage sind in Andalusien große Bauernproteste angekündigt.
      Einige Hauptrouten zur und an der Küste waren schon als gesperrt gemeldet.

      Wir fahren ins Hinterland💁🏼‍♂️
      Kurz hinter Sevilla haben wir bei El Viso de Alcor einen kostenfreien Stellplatz ergattert. Hier überlegten wir erstmal wie es weiter geht.

      Plan steht fest.
      Wir fordern unser Glück heraus und fahren noch einmal an die Küste
      (vielleicht 😜).
      Proteste schrecken uns nicht.

      Zuerst stoppen wir allerdings in Ronda.
      Eine wirklich sehenswerte Stadt mit vielen Attraktionen die bestaunt werden sollten.

      Die Wettervorhersage macht uns hier allerdings einen Strich durch die Rechnung.
      Es soll wie verrückt regnen 🌧️
      Für die ganze Region ist das Nass vom Himmel bitter nötig.
      Hier wird ausreichender Regen schon seit Jahren vermisst.
      Auf unserem Weg hierher haben wir ausgetrocknete Bachläufe und Seen gesehen.

      Wir machen leider nur einen kurzen Stadtrundgang, der sich trotzdem gelohnt hat.

      Jetzt sitzen wir in unserer Emma und hören den Regen auf Emmas Dach klopfen.      Leia mais

      ronda walk padre jesus neighbourhod

      after finding parking over to the old town....one wrong turn took us up quite a vertical road that just ended. we walked through the padre jesus neighborhood named for the church in the area -iglesia de nuestro padre jesus. there was also a fountain out front called the fuente de lis ocha canos- fountain of the 8 pipes.Leia mais

      sunset and birds

      you can walk north of the Alameda del Tajo along the edge there is a nice promenade but we wanted to go over the bridge and go down a bit. it was a good bird watching spot at this time of the day and we saw a pair of some sort of kestral like bird with pinkish shoulders and dark wing tips. they kept landing on the cliff face and it looked like they were going into the cliff. nesting site perhaps? the booted eagle does inhabit cliffs but it seems too small to be that?? eagle is 45-50cm . kestral is 22 in which is 55cm so maybe it was the booted eagle! I have now read in rough guides that there is a bird called the lesser kestral that inhabits the cliff face...so I think this is what we saw. we walked to another lookout -Mirador de Ronda- where there was an accordian player playing everything from tangos to the macarena to in the mood... just a bit beyond here is where we watched the sunset. a flock of swifts became active as the sun was going down, lots of swallows and a flock of red billed choughs....they make the most unusual sounds. a flock of them are known to roost in the gorge. see here for what they are and sound like. in the crow family. https://ebird.org/species/rebcho1

      eve stroll ronda

      walked to the old town . the drive in was gradual and around the north side of ronda. walking down the main st - ave Malaja- it goes right into the shopping street- Carrera Espinel- . at the end you are at the bull ring- Bullring of the Royal Cavalry of Ronda-. the art of bull fighting was founded here in Ronda and they worship the first matador who developed rules around the sport -
      Pedro Romera. Ronda was freed from the moors on 1485 by isabel and Ferdinand. Philip II (grandson) decreed the sport of bull fighting in 1572. he did this to keep the royal calvary in shape. this bull ring was constructed in the 18th century and is made entirely of stone. we then walked to the Alameda del Tajo (almada is mall and del tajo is pit) thuis is a 19th century park laid out in geometric patterns, hedges and some amazing trees. at the west end of this park you come to the cliff.....and what a cliff. this looks over the Rock called the El Tajo de ronda. tbe mountains around here are of limestone and are part of the Baetic Cordillera that starts in Morocco and extends to southern spain. the town of ronda itself sits on top of a sloping plateau called the depression of Ronda. The Guadalevín river carves it's way through Jurassic limestone ( yes there are sea fossils in these rocks) at the bottom the power from the river use to power some flour mills until a land slide in 1917 took most of the mills out.
