Tag25 Burgo Ranero Mansillas las Mulas

      26 de mayo de 2022, España ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Heute ging es nach Mansillas de las Mulas. Der Weg führte größtenteils an der Straße entlang.
Was natürlich eher eintönig ist .

Buenas a todas. Adios y buenas noches.Leer más

      Etappe 17 - Villarente

      1 de octubre de 2022, España ⋅ ⛅ 4 °C

Super geschlafen, gut ausgeruht gegen 8.00 Uhr gestartet.

Bercianos del Real Camino to Mansilla de

      23 de abril, España ⋅ ☀️ 39 °F

      296 miles done. 204 to go. 59%!

Coming near the end of the Meseta and the farmland as far as you can see. I’m excited to get past León and enter the last 200 miles of the journey. Especially looking forward to having my second and last rest day in Leon to do laundry and relax my legs a bit.

It was chilly today and I feel like I can’t get warm enough. Still, wearing sandals at the end of the daily walk feels amazing, so I added socks to my sandals. Not just socks, but toe socks. So yeah. Judge me. You’d have done the same. On the Camino, all sense of fashion or what is right or proper is out the window. I saw a couple at breakfast who were wearing “long johns,” but not the kind that you wear skiing. They were very thin and black, like thicker pantyhose, and they were wearing them over their white underwear, at breakfast. Pretty much entirely see-through, with his tighty-whities and her granny-panties all bunched up underneath the black hosiery. So, we all wear what we have, what may or may not be semi-clean (I really really need to find a laundry tomorrow), and we just roll with it.

Joined a table of pilgrims tonight and traded lots of stories and reasons why we are on the Camino. The consensus was really “why not?” and “finding myself.” Same.

León tomorrow and rest day there the next. Needed!

      Booming

      14 de abril, España ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

I am sitting here in utter disbelief at the RUCKUS being caused by, and I'm not generalising here as it's a fact, men between 50 and 65. This albergue has three upstairs rooms but it's a loft style roof, meaning the walls don't go up all the way, there's a gap and we all share airspace.

I have the bunk withdrawal process down to an absolute minimum in terms of time and decibels. I come to the communal area (and if there is none, outside) and do my dressing and deodorising and repacking and zipping there. It's surprising how much variation there is in the rush hour albergue by albergue, some you don't hear anyone move until 7, others are earlier.

I was downstairs by 5.30, joined by another decent human being at 5.45 and then from 6 I actually don't think I could have made more noise than these BEASTS are making upstairs if I tried. One of them dropped his stick, clattering down the bunk ladder as it fell, twice. I'd have killed myself after the first time so that completely blew my mind.

I'm waiting until my phone gets to 70% (because naturally they hogged the two chargers per room upstairs) then I will walk around giving each of them a sharp poke in the ribs, turn and glare at them at the threshold, put my nose in the air and storm off.

      By volume, an A+

      13 de abril, España ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

First time I've gotten an entire bottle of wine included, that's for sure. Taste wise, pretty decent too. €14 and I'm happy and ready for bed.

Edited to add: in preparation for bed I've realised I've lost my battery pack, most likely in Hontanas when I charged it after the USB lid walk. This actually is frustrating given it's new and useful and I should be more organised than this but it's also Just A Thing and I'm not going to lose sleep over it. It is one of the miracles of travelling alone that I get to decide exactly how much weight to give everything. One quick GRRRRR and we move on.Leer más

      Day 22

      14 de septiembre de 2022, España ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

Well.. today I set off intending to be better prepared for the rain than I was yesterday.. I literally didn’t sleep ( nothing to do with having THE most uncomfortable bed ever ) trying to decide what would be the best thing to wear… we’re talking waterproof or not, not some glamorous going out outfit 🙄😬
Anyway, after being caught short and ending up soaked before I’d managed to even get my coat on yesterday, I set off wearing everything, hoping I wouldn’t end up sweating (lovely 😳😬 ) underneath before the rain set in….
It was a very poor breakfast, so I left it and decided to get going.. fortunately it was way colder than yesterday and I ended up perfectly dressed 👍🏼👍🏼
Again, it was more of a head down and just get there day today, so not too many pictures as my phone was buried under my layers..
On my arrival, I checked out where I was staying, before going back to the pension for a coffee and some toast ( my new found appetite was calling 😳 )
Whilst eating I meet Eave ( from Denmark ) as you do!!! and was subsequently joined by Rocky.. he’s given me the trail name Hummingbird.. he’s done all of the major American trails, has so many stories, lived an extraordinary life and someone I’m proud to now consider a friend.. I’ve told him I’ll get a hummingbird charm that will always be a reminder of my Camino 🥰
The rain and thunder were constant this afternoon and so showered and washing done I started reading and sleeping.. I’m such a lightweight 😬
I had been intending to catch with Rocky, Doc and Bianca for a few Rhummy??!? games, but didn’t want to get soaked to do so..
No beer today ( it was definitely a coffee day ) I set off 25 minutes early for dinner thinking I’d have one whilst waiting…. I just wanted an excuse to be there early enough to make sure I got a table 😂
Whilst I didn’t catch up with “ the crew “ I did end up eating with a couple I’d stayed at the same places as a few times earlier in the trip .. ended up having a fabulous evening and we were joined by older American couple who’d been touring ( on foot ) Croatia/Bosnia and somewhere else before joining the Camino in Pamplona..they were on a tight schedule as they were really close to their visas running out 🙄
So looking forward to sleeping tonight on a more comfortable bed without worrying about “what to wear” 🙄🙄
Not many pictures due to the rain..

    • Sahagún to El Burgo Ranero

      6 de octubre de 2022, España ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

It was a nice short walk today, about 18km, with light packs in beautiful weather.

Because of scarce accommodation in today’s destination town, we walked there and caught a taxi back. We arranged with the taxi driver to return us to El Burgo early tomorrow, whence we will continue forward progress.

We left our digs at Los Balcones about 8am, with very light packs since we’d be returning later. Walking conditions were near perfect with cool, dry weather, clear skies and a light breeze,

The path followed a rural road that bore almost zero traffic. It was a wide, smooth dirt track lined most of the way with shade trees, making for a very pleasant stroll.

We saw extensive corn fields along the way. A couple of high speed trains zoomed past in the distance.

We stopped for coffee at the halfway mark in the bar of an albergue in Bercianos, where we also met our English friend Steve and his wife, first met back in Alesanco.

On arrival we had omelette for lunch, strolled up to admire the San Pedro church, and then called for a taxi back to Sahagún.

      El Burgo Ranero

      16 de octubre de 2022, España ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Another day walking long straight flat stretches of the Meseta. Today we walked next to a paved road with hardly any traffic and the Camino was lined with
      trees. The kilometers keep decreasing
