Wir verlassen Bangkok mit dem Taxi und dem öffentlichen Minibus und bezahlen für die 70 km bis Ayutthaya nur 8€. Unglaublich günstig.
In unserer Vorstellung sahen wir ein dörfliches Ayutthaya, aber die alte Hauptstadt ist auch eine quirlige Metropole. Ähnlich wie in Bangkok fließt der Individualverkehr über 5 Fahrspuren. Dagegen ist unser Baan Thai House eine gemütliche Oase mit einen wunderschönen Garten. Wir genießen die Annehmlichkeiten mit Pool und Massage und lassen einfach nur die Seele baumeln. Zum Abend gibt’s dann wie im Dschungel eine nette Unterhaltung von den Geckos 🦎, aber auch die Moskitos 🦟 sind unterwegs. Da hilft nur die chemische Keule.Read more

Ayutthaya, alte Hauptstadt von Siam

Ayutthaya war für mehrere Jahrhunderte die Hauptstadt von Siam, bis es im 18. Jahrhundert von den Burmesen zerstört wurde. Der König von Siam verlegte die Hauptstadt daraufhin 80km flussabwärts nach Bangkok. Übrig geblieben ist eine Vielzahl buddhistischer Tempelruinen, mal mehr mal weniger gut erhalten. Die meisten sind auch heute noch in Gebrauch und gelten als religiöser Ort. Mit dem Tuk-Tuk kann man bequem von Tempel zu Tempel fahren. Das ganze hat mich etwas an Angkor Wat erinnert, allerdings ist Ayutthaya auch heute noch bewohnt und die Tempel liegen verteilt in der Stadt.Read more

Ayutthaya : à la découverte des temples

Aujourd'hui, après un grand café glacé thaï et un sandwich mangue/bacon en guise de déjeuner (oui oui !), nous partons louer un super scooter Honda 125cc pour la journée, car il s'agit tout de même de l'ancienne capitale du royaume (289 hectares).

La ville, fondée en 1350 et maintenant inscrite au Patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, fut attaquée et rasée en 1767 par l’armée birmane, qui en chassa ses habitants. Ses ruines constituent aujourd’hui un vaste site archéologique caractérisé par ses prangs (tours reliquaires) et ses monastères bouddhistes aux proportions gigantesques, qui donnent une idée de la dimension passée de la ville, le tout construit sur un réseau de canaux au centre de 3 fleuves.

Près du grand bouddha couché, nous avons pu apercevoir notre premier varan que vous retrouverez dans les photos (plus connu sous le nom de Dragon de Komodo). Les thaï le surnomme : la bête qui mange les poulets, le petit frère du crocodile ou bien dragon noir. Cet animal a mauvaise réputation et un mauvais garçon s'appelle aussi varan. Un peu comme l'on traiterait quelqu'un de vipère en France… Décidément, les reptiles ont mauvaise presse même chez les bouddhistes !Read more

Classic Cameo Ayutthaya

Home for the night, a pretty basic hotel but after all the driving that is all we really need.

Basically as soon as we checked in we put on our swimmers and went for a swim, sorry forgot to take photo's we were to busy chatting with our fellow travellers.

We also had dinner in the Hotel and now ready to watch some Netflix as we have another early day tomorrow.

Lotus ponds and Khmer chedis

Before we left our dream resort in Phitsanulok, I just had to photograph the beautiful lotus flowers and water lilies in the morning sun.

The journey to Ayutthaya was almost four hours long, but we had slept so well and both felt totally refreshed. The highway views were also refreshing, especially on the rice plains, which were an ever-changing kaleidoscope of rice fields in various stages of cultivation and rural activity.

It was cooler and less humid in Ayutthaya than two weeks earlier, so we decided to forego the prospect of extremely reasonable massages and visit the historical park, which we have visited several times before, instead. The light was perfect and the climate too. I think our pictures speak for themselves .

In the second phase of the park, near the elephant kraal, Willi discovered several amazing birds: first an elusive kingfisher, then a colourful Indian roller, followed by a couple of hoopoes in breeding modus and finally a crane,which we have never seen before. Elated, we returned to Baan Thai for two (!) gin and tonics and dinner.Read more
