      Gordon River Cruise

      Half day cruise on the Gordon River. It was magnificent the cruise starts by going out through Hell's Gate and then back into Macquarie Harbour. We went past some fish farms and then into the Gordon River. The boat we were on had both the diesel and electric engines. Once we went into the river they switched over to the electric engine. ( A lot quieter ride)
      After a buffet lunch we went to Sarah Island and saw the ruins of the convict settlement. There is not much left but the brick fire places. Our guide on Sarah Island was an actor in the play we went to that night.
      The play was so funny and interactive. There are only 2 actors and the audience makes up the rest of the characters needed. Well worth a look.      Okumaya devam et

      Missing Friend!

      We got back to the ship shortly before it was time to leave. As we showered and changed clothes, we heard an announcement over the ship’s loudspeakers.

      Long story short: They were trying to find our friend, Michael!

      Michael is a gregarious Australian guy who sits with us at dinner. We met him several years ago on a different ship.

      This time around, however, it quickly became apparent to us that Michael’s cognition is on the decline.

      He asks the same questions several times each meal (Where will we be tomorrow? Is there a show tonight?) and hardly ever takes the diabetes medicine that he needs.

      Larry’s dad had dementia and lived with us for three years, so we’ve had experience.

      Larry changes the time on Michael’s phone and watch whenever we enter new time zones, and helps him order food at dinner. I gave him an asthma inhaler when he needed one.

      We’ve been trying to keep an eye on Michael, but at this stage he really needs a travel companion. We can only do so much.

      I gave Michael’s phone numbers to the English liasson and the security team. Stephanie was able to message him on WhatsApp, and could see that the messages were reaching his phone, but not being read.

      As we worried about our friend, we heard more stories of people being mugged here in South Africa.

      We did not sleep well last night!

      This morning, however, we were informed that Michael has been found and will return to the ship in Cape Town.

      Beyond that, we don’t know what caused him to miss the ship or how he passed his time last night.

      It’s a relief, but many questions remain!

      Snorkeling à Coral bay

      Après shark bay, direction coral bay qui se trouve sur le récif « Nigaloo reef », aussi appelé la petite barrière de corail.
      C’est un véritable paradis pour les poissons et donc pour nous aussi!
      Nous avons fait une sortie en bateau pour faire du snorkeling sur le récif et pour nager avec les raies mantas qui vivent là toute l’année.
      Malheureusement, impossible de les trouver. Elles devaient être en profondeur et ne sont pas montées en surface. Nous étions un peu déçus mais cette journée était malgré tout incroyable. Les coraux sont magnifiques et la faune très abondante ! Une 1ere plongée nous a permis de nager avec des tortues et des poissons de toutes les couleurs. Pour la 2eme plongée, nous sommes allés dans une « cleaning station » de requins. C’est un endroit où les requins viennent faire leur toilette. Ils se posent sur le sol, relèvent leur tête et ouvrent grand leur bouche. De petits poissons viennent alors nettoyer leurs dents et leurs branchies.
      Les requins étaient de belle taille mais très détendus. Une bonne façon de les observer!      Okumaya devam et

      Exmouth

      Nous poursuivons notre route en longeant la barrière de corail jusqu’à Exmouth. Ici, il y a beaucoup de plancton, ce qui rend la visibilité parfois difficile mais qui attire une faune marine incroyable telle que des requins baleines. C’est la principale raison pour laquelle nous sommes venus sur la côte Ouest d’Australie. Nous rêvons de nager avec ces énormes poissons depuis plus de 15 ans. Nous les avons déjà ratés en Thaïlande et en Honduras. Cette fois-ci, nous mettons toutes les chances de notre côté pour les voir enfin!
      Nous réservons une journée complète en bateau spécialisé. Afin de ne pas perturber les requins baleines, ils travaillent avec un petit avion qui survole la baie et leur indique où les trouver.
      Nous avons été comblés! Nous avons vu 4 requins-baleines dont un de très près. Whaouuuu quelle expérience pour nous et pour les enfants!
      Ce poisson qui est le plus gros du monde, n’est en fait ni un requin, ni une baleine. On l´appelle ainsi car il se nourrit principalement de plancton et de krill comme les baleines, et qu’il a un aileron comme les requins. En réalité, il appartient à la famille des Rhincodons et c’est le seul.
      Il se déplace très lentement car il n’a pas de prédateur (à part l’homme 😔) ce qui permet de le suivre et de bien l’observer.
      Ceux que nous avons vu mesuraient environ 4 mètres pour le plus petit et 10 mètres pour le plus grand.      Okumaya devam et

      Itinerary Change #16: No Myanmar

      It’s finally official. We won’t be going to Myanmar! Luckily, we did stop there for three days in 2017, so we’ve seen the highlights in and around Yangon and Bago.

      It was mid-morning when I heard the P/A chime. I didn’t think anything of it, however, as CD Ray usually has a morning announcement to review the daily program.

      Seconds later, I caught the tail end of a sentence that included the words “Myanmar” and “canceled.” I rushed in from the veranda to get the details of a cancelation that came as no surprise. We’ve been expecting this since there is a level 4 travel advisory against the country. The question was what would we be doing instead. It wasn’t just three days in Myanmar that were at issue. There were the three sea days to get there that needed to be worked out as well.

      Ray gave us a quick synopsis of the changes, which included switching some sea days around and adding ports of call in Port Blair, on India’s South Andaman Island; Sabang, Indonesia; Langkawi, Malaysia; and an extra day in Phuket, Thailand with an overnight stay. Three new-to-us ports; one repeat port. Kudos to Oceania for pulling together an itinerary that did not simply increase the number of days we have at sea on the upcoming segment.

      Now, to come up with plans for these new ports. The good news is that I was so sure Myanmar would be a no-go that I did not plan anything there. At least I have no plans to cancel with this go around of itinerary changes.      Okumaya devam et

      Heute morgen ging es früh zum Hafen in Port Lincoln. Wir haben eingecheckt und sind dann alle gemeinsam zum Boot gelaufen. Die Hinfahrt hat 3 Stunden gedauert und wir haben auf der Fahrt Delfine und Möven gesehen. Die Möven sind wie eine Kanone ins Wasser geflogen, um ihre Beute zu schnappen. Das sah sehr interessant aus😂
      Als wir an unserer Bucht angekommen sind, wurden wir alle in Gruppen aufgeteilt (7 Gruppen à 6 Leute). Wir waren in der dritten Gruppe und in unserer Gruppe waren zwei echt nette Leute, mit denen wir uns sehr gut verstanden haben.
      Als die Crew uns eingewiesen hat und alles vorbereitete, brüllte eine Frau auf einmal "ein Hai auf der linken Seite". Alle haben natürlich die Handys gezückt und als der Hai unter dem Boot hervorkam haben Leon und ich uns nur erschrocken angeschaut 😂 das war einfach ein sechs Meter Hai. So riesig🤯
      Umso aufgeregter waren wir als wir endlich in den Käfig durften. Zuvor haben wir Atemübungen gemacht und eine Gewichteweste umgeschnürt bekommen. Als ich in den Käfig gegangen bin, habe ich einen zweiten Anlauf gebraucht, weil ich dachte, dass ich nicht genug Sauerstoff bekomme. Aber dann hieß es ganz tief einatmen und runter gehen. Und so war es auch. Als ich unten im Käfig stand, konnte ich viel ruhiger atmen und alles war in Ordnung. Ich habe dann auf Leon gewartet und kurz darauf kam auch schon der erste weiße Hai zum Käfig geschwommen🫣
      Es war einfach nur der Wahnsinn. Haie sind so beeindruckende Tiere. Es sieht irgendwie majestätisch aus, wie sie durch das Meer gleiten. Sie sind so riesig, trotzdem sieht man sie nicht kommen. Einfach eine mega geile Erfahrung, die Leon und ich gemeinsam gemacht haben🥰
      Wir haben auch schon drüber gesprochen, ob wir nicht einen Tauchschein machen wollen. Bin sehr gespannt😊      Okumaya devam et

      Mahé am Horizont

      Es war nach 5, als in der Dämmerung Collin auf den Horizont zeigte und zu mir sagte: „Look, the lights, it‘s Mahé..“.

      Wir dümpeln, ohne zu ankern, vor der Küste Mahé‘s, waren duschen im Meer ohne Duschbad, sitzen, Collin telefoniert, seit er Empfang hat, ohne Pause, erzählen, atmen…., sind ANGEKOMMEN.

      „Ihr habt es wirklich geschafft.“, sagt Josi lachend zu mir, als ich sie anrief und sagte, „Schatzi, jetzt können wir wieder telefonieren, unsere Stimmen hören, zusammen sein, wir sehen Mahé, ich liebe dich.“ ❤️

      ..15 Uhr.. Wir werden jetzt Richtung Victoria fahren, dort gibt einen Platz zum ⚓️ für die Immigration, die Behörden werden dort an Bord kommen. Ich muss jetzt hier mal Ordnung machen, das Geschirr vom Frühstück steht auch noch in der Küche rum. Bis wir unsere EinreiseStempel in den Pässen haben, das wird hoffentlich morgen geschehen, werden wir weiterhin den Tag so leben, als wären wir noch auf unserer Reise.

      Ningaloo Glass Bottom Boat 🪸🤿🐠

      We had a a great tour today with a company called Ningaloo Glass Bottom Boat. We were picked up from the caravan park, then headed out towards the cape, along the way stopping at Mildura wreck before arriving at Tantabiddi boat ramp.

      Once there we hopped on the glass bottom boat and headed for the Tantabiddi sanctuary zone which has some amazing coral reef full of amazing sea life. On the trip out we saw many fish, octopus and sea turtle before stopping for a snorkel.

      The snorkelling itself was amazing. We were provided with all the gear and spent a good amount of time in the water checking out all the reef and fish. The water temp was perfect 👌🏻

      Once that wrapped up the bus stopped at Vlamingh Head Lighthouse on the way back before drop off back at the park.

      All in all the tour was about 4hrs and a great little introduction to the reef. Highly recommend.      Okumaya devam et

      in westaustraliä isch vu mai bis ca. mitti juli walhai, manta und buckelwal saison.
      d mantas sind das ganzä jahr da, aber i denä münet sinds eifach bsunders viel und diä anderä zwei reised da durä um diä ziit😍
      de walhai isch dr grössti fisch und somit au dr grössti hai🦈, aber absolut ungfährlich. er isch vegi.
      über d walhai selber weiss me nöd so viel, da si immer nur e kurzi ziit us dr tüüfi uftauched und de irgendwänn wieder zruck in diä untüüfä abtauched.
      dur das sinds sehr wenig erforscht. fortpflanzä tuät sich en walhai fruähstens mit 10ni und er cha bis 100ti werde.
