    Stansted to Bromley

    January 7 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

We had a lie in and made the best of the free breakfast and free newspapers at the Hampton by Hilton Hotel, Stansted Airport.
Leaving at 9.45am we caught the train from the airport to Tottenham Hale and tube to Victoria.
We then walked to Belgravia and stashed our big bags for 2 days using stasher.com a great new app that allows u to store luggage at registered shops, hotels, addresses for an hour or several days. Left with only our moderately heavy hand luggage it was back to Victoria Station where we caught a train to Bromley South.
Next up it was a 20 min walk to Bromley North station where I was reunited with my new lenses for my sport sunglasses finally after being caught out by a super efficient company posting them before Xmas.
The afternoon was spent in and around Bromley getting some new books and bits and pieces before heading to Lou and Nats for when they came home from work.
A v pleasant evening was spent catching up over a home cooked veg lasagne and a v nice glass of wine for us ( Lou and Nat r doing dry January which is great bit we r on holiday!!).
Tmrw it’s in to Greenwich and central London.

    Hanging around in the UK

    May 22, 2018 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Well, after an amazing few weeks making memories with family and friends, we were supposed to be taking the ferry over to France today. However we've both had niggles with our health and took the decision to stay around in the UK to try and get them sorted. We have appointments at the end of June so have enjoyed a few days with Will's sister Sue and her family, mostly working in the garden. We'll help Will's brother Pete and partner Maggie move into their new house and have yet to make plans for the rest of our time. One thing is for sure; it is a beautiful time of year to be in our own country and we are relishing the new opportunities this change of plan has opened up.

We still intend to complete our tour of Europe and will keep you updated with any new travel plans. By putting the itinerary on hold, we hope we are giving ourselves the chance to be in the best of health, so we can enjoy travelling to the greatest extent!

    Our new base!

    June 27, 2016 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

We are at our new base: Will's sister's Sue's house in Orpington.
There are parakeets flying overhead and a vine growing on the wall getting is in the mood for continental travel.
I used a launderette for the first time as I thought it would be easier learning the ropes in English.

A Lone Turk at the Crystal Palace

    August 27, 2016 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Picked up my bike today in Brixton, happy to be surrounded by Caribbean people. In honor of Celeste Olalquiaga's fabulous book The Artificial Kingdom, I decided to head from Brixton up to the Crystal Palace, where you can the remains of this paragon of Victoria architecture which was built in 1851 after industrialization permitted the manufacture of large glass panes (see en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crystal_Palace). All that's left is the stone surround and this statue overlooking it.

Then, I headed off to the land North of the River on the first stop on my cheese pilgrimage: the Neal's Yard Dairy. The shop was everything I had imagined, and one of the cheesemongers gave me tastes of everything! Sadly, the camera on my phone went berserk and wouldn't focus on anything, so I give you blurry pictures of delicious cheese...

Later on, I met up with my fabulous student Jacob, who just filed his dissertation at the London School of Economics! We went to place for cute drinks called Oriole in the Borough Square Market on Poultry Lane. It was a bit over the top, especially the "blue" corn in a pisco-sour-influenced drink that was actually baby corn soaked in blue food coloring (for real). A world of Orientalist nostalgia in liquor!

    London Bromley

    May 28, 2016 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

A Whole New World you might say.
