The Tower of London

We walked to the closest stop for the "hop on, hop off" bus today, with the Tower of London as our main objective, and Harrods as a secondary target. Tomorrow is a travel day, so we pushed it hard with a bag of "crisps" and a bottle of water 💧 as lunch. We also took the Underground a couple of times to help us get around. We only got lost once, and I swear it was due to poor directions from the Underground staff.
Big crowds today due the upcoming holiday, so seeing the Crown Jewels had a one hour queue. Checked out the towers, medieval castles, torture chambers etc. The Scots and the English seem to have a talent for torture techniques. 😬

Unterwegs zum St. James‘s Park gab es eine Ablenkung die uns in ihren Bann gezogen hat. Beim überqueren der Straße die zum St. James‘s Park führt, sind uns Straßensperren aufgefallen. Da wir wissen wollten, weswegen diese aufgestellt sind, sind wir diesen nachgegangen. Auf dem Weg zur Veranstaltung, der Horse Guards Parade der Buckingham Palast Soldaten, sind uns die Gebäude aufgefallen in denen der ‘‘Churchill War Room‘‘ und das ‘‘Foreign and Commonwealth office‘‘ waren.Read more

This was the first part of the day tour we took which included the war room which we also visited a second time later before leaving London.

The Churchill War Rooms is a museum in London and one of the five branches of the Imperial War Museum. The museum comprises the Cabinet War Rooms, a historic underground complex that housed a British government command centre throughout the Second World War, and the Churchill Museum, a biographical museum exploring the life of British statesman Winston Churchill.Read more
