      Day 24 - Dorking

      Yesterday in England ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

Well English push bikers took it to a new low for me today 🙈 as we drove out the gate some loser was texting, biking with no hands and smoking weed all at the same time 🤣🥴

Unfortunately I haven't been too well with this cold and cough, lucky I have some special pills from Germany to help me through!

Cory, Danny, me and the kids popped into Dorking town today. Dorkings mascot I spose you could say is a Rooster 🐓
This is one of Cory and Hollies local towns.
We walked down the street exploring some of the shops and then stopped for a bite to eat. We had a look at the church Saint Martin's, as usually there are squirrels around and the kids we lucky to get a close encounter.
I quite like Dorking, definitely more my pace!

I went to the supermarket. Fruit and veges are a good price here. I brought a big container of Raspberries for about $5 nzd and these were bloody huge! Big bag of carrots is about $1.40.
I am going to miss all the fresh blueberries, strawberries and Raspberries we've been having!

Nice afternoon in the Garden with some snacks while the kids were in the pool.

As I type this everyone is struggling to get to sleep because we are hot 🤣🙈

Super early start tomorrow as we try to beat the traffic and get down to Cornwall ⏰️

      Oban - Scotland

      June 24 in England ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Relaxing morning and another great breakfast at our B&B.

Today we leave England and venture into Scotland.

Three hours highway driving with the highlight being a scenic drive the length of Loch Lomond and a stop off at midday at ‘The Drovers Inn’ for lunch.

Then more driving to ‘The Black Rock Cottage” a famous cottage nestled amongst the hills - very quaint. Then onto Glencoe ( on the A82 road) which was just spectacular, so much to see, we decided to do it again.

Then to Castle Stalker before arriving at Oban. A working fishing port etched in history. We looked around town including McCaig’s Tower before checking into our digs at ‘The Scot Hotel.”

A couple of beers at the Oban Inn before dinner at ‘Markie Dan.’ Very good. Into bed 9.30pm

      Steps - very little 5560
      Dinner - 8/10
      Digs- 7.5/10

      Lacock en Avebury

      June 24 in England ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Read more

      Lakes District - Day 2

      June 23 in England ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

After a sensational breakfast at Fellpack House we hit the road straight away 8.30am.

First stop was ‘Surprise View,’ both literally and figuratively. Looking back over Derwentwater Lake and the surrounding mountain ranges, the views were amazing.

Then onto lake Buttermere via the ‘Hornister Pass’ which mountain ranges were simply sublime. Unfortunately photos just don’t do it justice. Seriously breathtaking views. Hopefully the photos will give you a sense of how huge and rugged these ranges stand.

Lake Buttermere, Crummock, and Bassenthwaite. Just spectacular.

We then headed for the Castlerigg stone circles allegedly 5000 years old (3000BC). 38 stones of varying sizes up to 3 metres, with an unknown purpose, potentially astronomical events, or ceremony or religious purposes. Regardless it was pretty impressive and free.

Then to Aira Force waterfall. Parked up and walked down, round and back up for an hour.

Lunch was back at Keswick, before we embarked on a walk half way around Derwentwater Lake. Very pretty however it wasn’t well sign posted.

We ended up catching the 4pm ferry back to Keswick from Lodore Falls. It was nice to seeing a different perspective from the lake.

A quick freshen up before happy hour at a local pub, ‘Lake Road Inn.’

Dinner was at a Mexican Tapa’s place rated highly on TripAdvisor called ‘ES Bar’ which didn’t disappoint.

Back home to bed early 9pm as we are both knackered. Plus a big day driving tomorrow up into Scotland.

      Steps 18500
      Stairs 38
      Dinner 8.5/10
      Accomodation: Fellpack house
      Highly recommend booked through booking.com

      Tag 8: Canterbury to Twydall

      June 23 in England ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Kann heute nix anderes sagen außer : Fix your bloody Roads!!!

Wurde heute 65 km durchgeschüttelt. Was eine Tortur.

Habe übrigens seit Dover keinen einzigen Radreisenden gesehen.

      Day 30 Grasmere circular walk

      June 22 in England ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Yet another glorious day in Grasmere, blue sky, sun and 18 degrees. With the recommendation from staff at Bridge Hotel we set off to walk around Grasmere lake ie the circular track. Having googled the way I led....there is a moral there...!! Past William Wordsworth's house and turn left so we did...up and up we went with great views down to Grasmere. Then down we went towards the A591...why did we go up at all when we were following around Grasmere Lake...mmm. Chris took the road home at this point as the climb down was uneven and slippery and he was unsure about the rest of the walk. From here we wound our way through meadows, over bridges and babbling brooks dodging all the dogs and the many other people also out walking. Everything was so green and fresh and the track was well signposted. We did come across a beach which had pebbles of course. The dogs were loving the beach and chasing the sticks. We followed the lake then walked on the road watching Grasmere get closer!!
Lunch at the Tea Room was well earned and deserved after 6km!
In the afternoon we visited the Wordsworth museum and Dove cottage. The tour and video were worthwhile and informative. We loved walking through the woodland and orchard which were part of the cottage.
Home via the show ground. We were fascinated watching the paragliders above and they came in to land. Gin and tonics in the garden then a yummy dinner of lamb racks and an affogato at Lewis Bistro.

      Lakes District - England

      June 22 in England ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

After a wholesome Welsh breakfast - minus the black pudding (still not brave enough just yet) we were off in the car, back into England.

Mainly highway driving exiting the freeway at The Lakes District (roughly 2.5 hours) which is located in the northeast of England an area covering over 2300km’s. Known for its rugged mountains, stunning scenery and of course Englands largest lakes - Windermere, Derwentwater, Ullswater and Coniston water.

Photographs don’t do the area justice.

We drove to see the home of the famous children’s author - Beatrix Potter. (She wrote - ‘The tales of Peter Rabbit,’ et al). Parking was at a premium, couldn’t find a spot so just had a visual as we went by.

We stopped and walked around a few villages nearby including:

Hawkshead - quaint little village. Mel bought some fudge.

Grasmere - famous for the author William Wordsworth who lived in the village - ‘Dove Cottage.’ Mel bought some gingerbread from a famous Sarah Nelson shop. After, had a beer at ‘Tweedies’ beer garden, could have stayed longer but had to be responsible, as per usual.

Keswick - we had fish and chips for a late lunch and a stroll around the Saturday markets.

Our accommodation for the next two nights is in a Bed and Breakfast - ‘Fellpack House.’ The B&B has recently been refurbished with rooms looking over the mountain ranges.

Dinner was at The Fellpack. Mel had slow cooked ragu pappardelle and I had the lamb rendang. Very good.

      Steps 10800
      Dinner 8.5/10
      Accomodation 9/10

      Day 21 - just chillin

      June 22 in England ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

      Gosh another sleep in! Haha
Gunna be hard when we go home lol!

We went for a walk up to Leith Hill castle. They stored a lot of the ammunition up there back in the day as it was the highest point of the area. From here we could actually see London!

Guy is in plane heaven here as we are right beside Gatwick air port and there is a plane taking off every 3 minutes so he is always outside telling us who it is 🤣

After our walk we went to a small farm park to have some lunch. Here we could let the kids go for a good run around on the playground while we ate!

A quiet afternoon has been lovely 😍
Kids had another splash in the pool and Guy has been mesmerized by all of Greame's (Hollie's Dad) stories involving history of wars etc and the treasures he has found whilst diving in old ship wrecks etc he has some very cool things!

Heard the weather is not very nice at all today, lots of thunder 😕!

      Dag 3 Brighton en Winchester

      June 22 in England ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C
