      Kingman

      June 8, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Read more

      Route 66

      April 7 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Just in case you didn’t know where I was… in Kingman and surrounds you are reminded a lot. This town really lives off the nostalgia, and they do it in a great way. I loved walking around in this otherwise not very interesting town. Before that, I stopped in chloride, a quirky mining town still very much alive. Guess what they mined here…Read more

      Route 66 & Hoover Dam

      March 31 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

We woke up in winter wonderland 🥶😂 everywhere was a lot of snow and we were wondering how the people in tents survived the night. After breakfast and coffee we drove quickly to the viewpoint to have a look on Grand Canyon covered in snow. It was very foggy and the visibility was poor. To our surprise only the top of the canyon was covered by snow ❄️.

Today we had a lot of kilometers to drive… straight way to Las Vegas takes more then 4 hours and covers the distance of 270 miles which is I think more then 400km (crazy that people do that as a day trip from Vegas).

To make the drive more enjoyable we planned to stop several times and finish our day by lake Mead which is only 30 minutes drive from Vegas. 1 hours drive south from Grand Canyon we passed city Williams one of the important stops on the historical Route 66 connecting Los Angeles to Chicago and covering the total distance of 2500 miles / 4000km. Along the Route 66 there are plenty of ghost towns and retro restaurants, old motels and vintage shops. Apart from Williams we made a quick stop in Seligman & Kingman. In Kingman we found a great restaurant but unfortunately due to Easter Holidays the restaurant was shut down 🥲.

Finally approaching lake Mead we decided to make a small detour to Hoover Dam which we passed by anyway. Hoover Dam is very huge and impressive construction built on lake Mead and river Colorado. The entrance to the Hoover Dam felt like entrance to the military base ~ strong controls, we needed to get out of the car, open the bathroom and interior of the car 🤣. Once there we were shocked by the amount of people and traffic. The site is huge and you can even join organized tours. There is also an option to walk on the highway bridge to see the Hoover Dam from above. It was definitely impressive and nice visit and if you have spare time it’s worth to stop for hour.

After very short drive we finally arrived in our beautiful campsite with the views of lake Mead - Boulder Beach Campground.

    • Day 5

      Kingman

      October 18, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Another day, another adventure on our wild tour of the wild west! Today, we delved deep into the heart of Kingman, right on Route 66, where our tour leader's insider knowledge was worth its weight in gold. We wandered through downtown like a local pro.

After lunch at Mr D's diner, it was time to hit the wagon wheel trail, where I morphed into an intrepid explorer, and Andy turned into a wildlife expert – Tarantula Tracker extraordinaire! I mustered up the courage to take a pic, but if you ask me, I was a safe distance away... like, probably miles!

Now, it's not every day you hear a rattlesnake serenading you during a nature walk. I didn't wait around for a duet, though; my heart's rhythm had already reached a chart-topping pace, and I was outta there faster than you can say "snake-charmer."

Despite the scorching 32-degree heat, the landscape was nothing short of spectacular. But trust me, after a short trek, I wasn't sure if I'd make it on a day-long hike. Hydration became my new BFF, and I learned that dizziness could ambush you like a ninja in the desert.

Speaking of ninjas, some locals were strolling around in jeans and jackets. I mean, I get that desert nights can get chilly, but those folks must have been auditioning for a new "Survivor: Desert Edition."

After we stopped at Camp Beale to admire the desert spring and ruins, it was time for a thrilling afternoon. Imagine being introduced to a taste of assault rifles and pistol shooting in the desert – not exactly your typical vacation activity, right? I wasn't initially thrilled about it, but with some gentle persuasion (and a few butterflies in my stomach), I decided to give it a shot. And you know what? Turns out, I've got some hidden sharpshooting talent! Who would've thought?

Post-dinner, we joined Shane and Tracy for a night out on the town. Andy became my shuffleboard sensei, and by the end of the evening, I was sliding those pucks like a pro. So, all in all, another day on tour in Kingman turned out to be an unforgettable chapter in our wild adventure. Stay tuned for more epic tales from the road!

      Kingman - Seligman

      May 6 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Aber der Straßenzustand bringt mich zu "Pumps and Dips you get Tube Kicks on Route 66".
Tolle Shops.

      Tag 8 - Palm Springs & Wüste Arizona‘s

      June 4, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Read more

      Route 66

      October 1, 2021 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C
