September 1, 2017 in the United States

Glen Canyon Dam / Lake Powell

August 14, 2015 in the United States

Stopped in Page, Arizona for gas and a Walmart stop for a few camper essentials and food resupply. Hungry hikers!

Made sure to stop and enjoy the views of Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam. Learned that the dam was President Dwight Eisenhower's idea in 1953 and he said to "dammit". 10 years and 10 million pounds of concrete and the Glen Canyon Dam was built and Lake Powell was born. Lake Powell is 186 miles long with 1960 miles of shoreline. It was named after John Wesley Powell, whom we learned about at our IMAX movie this morning. He was a brave (maybe a bit wild) one-armed Civil War veteran with a lot of guts to explore what others would not dare. How fortuitious!Read more

    Lake Powell

June 22, 2016 in the United States

A one night quick trip to Lake Powell. We stayed in Wahweap CG and Stacy and Scott stay in the Wahweap Resort. We had a beautiful ride and then took a two hour boat ride on Lake Powell. That night we had Sushi in town. The next morning we toured Antelope Slot Canyon with a Navajo Guide company. The trip out to the canyon was proceeded but an amazing young man who performed a hoop dance. An incredible 24 hours.Read more

October 5, 2015 in the United States

In Page we expected two highlights of our trip: The Wave and Antelope Canyon. We did both already during our trip in 2004 but wanted to take some new pictures of these spectacular places. NO - it was raining in the middle of the desert so heavily that the road to The Wave was totally unusable and the Antelope Canyon was full of water. So we had to accept that this time we won't see them. But we still had a good time in Page enjoying a canoe tour on Lake Powell, a visit to the dam and of course the horseshoe bend.Read more

    Glen Canyon Dam

June 3, 2016 in the United States

We ended the evening by finding a Mexican restaurant for dinner. The food was good but I think we were all overly tired and dehydrated. I wasn't the only one with a headache and little energy. The food revived us, somewhat, and the setting of the sun helped. I think the strong, direct sunshine actually wore us out.

We drove out to the Glen Canyon Dam just before sunset. The visitor center was closed, but we walked around to the overlook and enjoyed the view. On seeing the dam from above, Scott and I realized that the tour we took 18 years ago was the Glen Canyon Dam and not the Hoover Dam.Read more

    Glen Canyon Dam, Page

November 4, 2014 in the United States

    Page / Lake Powell

May 20, 2015 in the United States

Read more

    Lake Powell, Page, AZ

May 5, 2017 in the United States

Setup camp at Wahweap campground on Lake Powell.
We visited the Glen Canyon dam and did a tour.
We then went to Horseshoe Bend overlook.
It was a very hot day, so we decided to skip cooking dinner and went to pub to eat, drink some beers, and watch NBA playoff game.
Later that evening, another teardrop camped by us. It turns out that he built it himself. I also learned that he works for Intel too.
