    Port Townsend

    June 24, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

    Settling in at Fort Worden

    August 10, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

We got to Fort Worden in the afternoon having stopped off in the quaint and prosperous town of Port Townsend. We had a camping spot way out at the tip of the campground loop with a bunker and the sound just a few steps away over the dune. The kids had a great time exploring the bunker while I made dinner. We are in the van because of the sting winds - one of only a few times on the whole trip when we ate indoors.Read more

    Games and bed

    August 10, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 57 °F

Fort Worden is a much more active place then the forts at the mouth of the Columbia. We went to a bar/restaurant in the old jail of the base and played Magic Archenemy. Samantha was Nicol Bolas and Franklin and I didn't stand a chance! The kids cuddled up for bed - only a few nights left in the van!

    Birthday breakfast

    August 11, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

I woke up early and walked up to the coffee shop. It was very foggy and I took a nice walk along the bluff, leaving the kids to sleep in.

But when I got back it was birthday hugs for our 9 year old bug-bug! We had a big pancake and bacon breakfast to celebrate.

    Charging the batteries

    August 11, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

We checked out the nice little artillery museum and learned about the history of the fort. I read on the sign that An Officer and a Gentleman was filmed here. That's why it looks so familiar - Mayonnaise! I loves me some good Lou Gossett Jr. hazing!

We walked up a path to the top of the main bluff where there were a series of bunkers that dated from the 19th and 20th centuries.Read more

    Last night in the van

    August 11, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 61 °F

We had a very nice campsite up in the woods away from the winds. I began to pull everything out of the van to get ready to pack. We found the "pee cup" - something we never used. Samantha's rating on the idea is quite clear. I joked that the whole concept could be covered in an essay called "The Princess and the Pee". "Not funny dad!" (but with a giggle) was the response.

Franklin played some souvenirs he bought at the Artillery Museum and made us a fire. The kids helped out with the packing for a bit and then finished watching a movie. By bedtime we were all tired and went to bed together for the last time in the van.

    Port townsend

    August 30, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

We arrived at the ravenscroft bed and breakfast at around 3 and booked into our lovely room. We had lunch at Quench and then went for a walk around the nearby port. We were really excited to find a barred owl perched on a tree.
We ate a disappointing meal in the Alchemy wine bar and bistro.
The following day after the best breakfast,(Friday) we booked to go whale watching. Had a fantastic time on the puget sound express and saw a hump back and a pod of transient orcas also saw loads of birds. We had lunch in San Juan Island supper at silver water cafe.
On Saturday we wandered round port Townsend and did some shopping. We had a quiet afternoon processing our pictures. Sunday we went to Dungeness spit for a walk out to the lighthouse there. It was just beautiful, about four miles each way and really quiet with lots of wild life to see.
Monday we took the ferry to Whidney island and did some lovely walking in another Fort and saw pelicans.
Tuesday we got up early and drove to Seattle airport having breakfast by a long lake on the way. We travelled back with an elvis convention.

    Wooden Boats!

    September 12, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

We took the ferry to Port Townsend where we happened upon their Wooden Boat festival and a gracious host, Amy, who let us stay in her yard for the night so we could enjoy the festivities.

    Batteries running out

    August 11, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

We were getting pretty tired - our energy levels are flagging a bit after being on the road so long. But we got through all the main batteries before heading down.
