    On our way

    5 September 2023, Austria ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Well taxi to Manchester airport, looking forward to the break.
Customary beer and breakfast at airport , bit ironic heading towards a thunderstorm while the sun cracks the flags at home 🤓

Hmm not a good start, half an hour late and pilot tells us there's a problem with baggage and quite a few bags are missing, he's spoke to the company and is going to wait a while to see if they turn up 😵‍💫

Latest update ..they are missing 3 bags and just deciding whether to delay longer or go 😳

Told Stuart and Trev that I bet the 3 missing will be ours 🤣🤣🤣 good job I always take some clothes in my hand baggage....we will have to wait till chania to see now 🥺

Well no worries bags arrived too along with the taxi so all's well

Got outside the airport..and it's raining, but really warm

  • Found the apartment

    5 September 2023, Greece ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Taxi got us straight here but it's pitch black ha ha.
Stefani was here to meet us, and they say first impressions count and hey, bottle of wine on the table, some raki and a meal waiting for us.
The cheese is to die for and the homemade cake really good , so first impressions in the dark are really good.Baca lagi

  • Day 2

    6 September 2023, Greece ⋅ 🌙 26 °C

Well it's raining, thunderstorm overnight but we've ventured out to a cafe just down the road for breakfast , then subject to the rain stopping a stroll to the harbour.

Rain stopped and it is roasting now the golden beach looks so inviting but instead we are going to walk along the shore to the old town (with the odd pub stop on the way)

Well a good day was had by all, Chinese buffet to finish and I surprised myself by walking over 8.9 miles 😳

  • Day 4 - a short trip out

    8 September 2023, Greece ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Well slightly overcast today, saw these little train excursions, they appear to go to quite a few different places so decided to do the hidden treasures excursion

We travelled along the coast to gerani then headed off through a hidden ravine on the outskirts of vatolakos, through the villages of Gavranou and Koufosto to an old Cretan house and the winery of Manousakis family.
It rained a bit but the wine was lovely 😜.
Then our next stop, was at the hill-sides of Varipetro, to see the Greek Orthodox monastery of Metamorphosis,

The monastery is run by nuns and is on top of a hill, with a great view of the area, surrounded by fruit trees. One of the nuns guided us around and wow I could have listened to her all day, a really fantastic talk by her, all about the environment and I tell you what she brought a tear to my eye, absolutely fantastic.

  • Day 5 old town

    9 September 2023, Greece ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Well not much sun today so I thought I would get a bus into chania and then one to souda.

Well souda was disappointing, a bit like visiting Fleetwood docks but there was a mega yacht called "Mayan queen" moored up, it's worth googling to look at it and it's interior, all $175 Million dollars of it 😵‍💫

Went back and roamed a bit more of chania, only I started with the new town which i must say is very impressive, then on into the old town and then a bus back 😎

Arrived back from the old town now and it's obviously time to head out to watch the footy, ⚽

  • Day 6 and it starts with rain

    10 September 2023, Greece ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Well I've been woken up this morning by the sound of rain gently tapping on the balcony 😵‍💫

Dried up pretty quick so off out for my morning walk, went to the beach and strolled along for a while, now back for the strenuous activity of a beer or two 😜

Went for a meal last night in a field ! Food was absolutely fantastic really enjoyed it.

The cook went into the garden to pick the veg, really cool .

  • Day 7 towards agia marina

    11 September 2023, Greece ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

We decided to go along the front towards agia marina, weather is really nice today but a strong sea breeze blowing in so lots of red flags on the beach

Caught the bus as far as it went then walked along the seashore, really good day and ended up at same restaurant as yesterdayBaca lagi

  • Day 8 Chania evening "strata"

    12 September 2023, Greece ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

The strata is a traditional folklore dance done by associations of Crete, accompanied by traditional musical instruments and artists.

It tours the port area of chania with music and songs, which I'm told ends at the Mitropolis square around 21:00.

So before it starts what's better than a refreshing drink and looking at the alleys in the evening 😜

Well the port looks really good as the evening draws in, very busy, in fact it was manic, the strata was a bit of a let down, it was ok but I think I'd expected more, anyhow bus back to apartment 🤓

  • Day 9, a day on the beach 🏖️

    13 September 2023, Greece ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Easy day today ...the beach, and yes the fish do bite your legs !!!
Tomorrow I'm going to get a photo of them feeding on me !

  • Day 11 , time to feed the fish

    15 September 2023, Greece ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Well another scorcher and the sea is like glass, had a morning chilling on the balcony and now headed to the aptly named "piranha bar" on the beach, sat with ice cold beer with sand strewn with daffodils.

Next stop is the cove round the corner, think I'm going to see if the fish will have me for dinner again🤣

This time I'm talking my camera to get photographic evidence! I've now got photographic evidence of jaws attacking my foot and it's baby brothers going for my arm and shoulder 😳 will post when can Xfer from camera

  • Day 12 time to go home

    16 September 2023, Greece ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Well sadly it's time to go home today, so it's a morning of chilling in the sun before the taxi picks us up to go to the airport. Well taxi picked us up but a 50 minute delay on the flight so who knows what when we arrive at Manchester as it was Trevor booking the taxi .

Well it's been a nice sunshine break - even when it rained it was nice, seen some beautiful countryside, quaint buildings and met some lovely people.

Food has been outstanding and I don't think there's been anything i haven't liked, unlike Trevor who's main saying for the first seven days was "I don't like it!". But fair do's for trying so can't knock it 😎

I will spend next few days sorting pics from my camera and then fill the pages with some of the nice places we have been, but that's it for greece so it's αντιο σας from here.

Only 18 days till my next trip and it's slightly longer in time and certainly distance and I can't wait.....
    Vietnam & Cambodia here I come 🤓
