Yesterday’s walk ushered in some sort of foot/ankle ailment. I’m thinking Achilles tendon or fascia. PAIN. Roy also is damaged with pain.
We pilled up and set out after breakfast.
I hobbled 8.5 miles reciting the Ave Maria as my cadence. No surprise we reached our destination.

Almost as a reward the room is on the ground floor, nicely equipped, and has a laundry.

The weather was cool, and no rain.
God is good. 🙏😊

This is another town that begs for more time, but no, we must walk on.

Rua do Medio. Surprised that it was a pension; however, it turned out to be the best place we’ve stayed. Reception was outstanding explained everything and ensured we understood. Room was on the ground floor. Breakfast was the usual nothing special.Meer informatie

Foot is swollen and screaming. Thankfully we were able to get it into the boot. Hobbled 12 miles. Roy doing well & patient.

Again we are blessed with perfect weather ☀️
Hotel Ruaz was okay. Had elevator which was helpful. Expensive dinner options. Okay breakfast.Meer informatie

9 miles to reach our Pension Carballe de Prade 1900. in the country side. Very nice property. Too far from any restaurants. We checked in and then showered. Host took us to a cafe so we could get a burger. Then straight back to the room.

We slept.
Host banged on the door to alert us that it was dinner time but we did not get up. More sleeping. Roy says 14 hours sleeping!

Up at 7., and started walking.
Gorgeous day for walking cool and comfortable.🙏

Pension was nice. No tub. No food. Friendly owners.Meer informatie

We are so grateful for the favorable weather each day. Makes the walking easier.

Roy wraps my foot and stuffs it in my boot.
We pill up and walk.

We walked 11+ miles in a little over 5 hours to reach our Pension.

Woman initially couldn’t locate our reservation, but ended up on the top floor. Again twin beds,no frills, no food on site.

Just coffee No breakfast.

Private ferry from Vilanova de Arousa to San Xuilan. Another day filled with sunshine.
Made it to our hotel south of Santiago 9.6 miles. We had to move hotels so now we are west of Santiago at approximately the same distance.

Will walk into Santiago today ~I am glad.

Hotel Casa Rosalia.
Pumps incense and while the smell isn’t bad the volume chokes. The dinner price was Very expensive but again they were our only option.
Twin beds were awful. Bathroom while private was also not nice.

We made it to Santiago de Compostela 270 kilometers behind us. Our Camino Journey 2023 is complete. We are weary. We entered from the far west and didn’t see any signs, arrows, pilgrims, until …. We did.
It was strangely like a street party. A cacophony of languages raised in excitement. Everyone seemed to get a burst of energy having crossed the finish line.
We decided to check into our hotel anxious to be free of the backpacks. Then the most important helado stop before heading to obtain our certificate.
We were Peregrino 918, & 919 of the day. 😊
Very quick & efficient. Sadly feels commercial but that doesn’t diminish the feeling of accomplishment.

Can’t say it’s Spain, perhaps just the Galcia Region, but there is much trash, & noise pollution. People do not wish to make eye contact and begrudgingly offer an Hola (No Hola for you!) in response to our cheerful Buenos Dias.Meer informatie

Had breakfast and headed to church. Spanish mass with Botafumeiro!
We were in good fortune as it cost 410 pounds for it to swing/fly. We benefited greatly from someone else.
After church the weather has taken a turn with cold & wet.
How blessed are we to have enjoyed 16 straight days of sunshine and perfect weather.Meer informatie

Today we toured the coast of Death including the final stop of one of the most important pilgrimage routes and 90 kilometers to find the end of the world.

Legend - the pilgrim's boot that is next to the lighthouse. According to tradition, as soon as they arrived in Fisterra, the pilgrims burned their clothes and got rid of their boots as a way to embody the beginning of a new life leaving everything material. That is, the end of the road and the beginning of a new life.Meer informatie

One night in the Continental Hotel before checking into Carnival Venezia for journey home via New York.
