    Motueka

    8 Januari 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

I went to bed much later than planned yesterday as I talk very long with my neighbors at the campground.
They did a boat trip on Saturday around the Abel Tasman Coast and saw a lot of Orcas and two of them were coming really close to their boat and even swimming under it! They showed me the videos and it was really amazing!

I took it easy this morning as I have quite much pain in my muscles from the last two days 🙈😂
Good that I was buying some magnesium already yesterday.

For today I haven't planned so much luckily.
I was driving to the German bakery in Takaka first to buy real bread!! And then I went to Motueka, where I will stay over Christmas!
I have been here already last time and I really like the area so I will have some nice days here! 😊

I did a big shopping trip when I arrived in Motueka and it's crazy how full it is everywhere in the city 😳
But it was even worse in the afternoon as I had to go a second time because I forgot some stuff the first time 🙈😅

Otherwise, I used the rest of the day to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather, clean up and reorganize my car as it was time for it! 😊

And even tonight I got stuck with a couple from Germany and talk with them until after 10 pm.
Not so good, as I will need to get up early tomorrow for a new adventure. 😉

  • Singapore

    2 Desember 2019, Singapura ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

The flight to Singapore took 12 hours. I couldn’t sleep at all thanks to my neighbor that was kind of sleeping the whole flight and snoring like hell 🙄
And if he wasn’t for a couple of minutes some children were crying like hell... Funny... But at least otherwise everything went well 😊

I had son trouble figuring out how I come to the city with the train and where to buy a ticket but with a little help I managed it and I came to my hotel shortly before 9 am.
Here I had to wait over an hour for the reception to open, but the other guest said I should just sit down, drink a cup of tea and eat some breakfast while waiting. No one here who could say something against it. 😉
They seem to be quite relaxed here, the reception was not open before 10.20 am even though it was standing 9 am on the paper on the desk 🙈😂
I could check in yet, but was allowed to use the toilets and showers, eat breakfast and all this kind of thinks. So I just changed quickly and went straight off for a walk in the city.

I walked along the Marina Parade! It’s a really nice walk along the water.
I was almost alone and started to want er where everyone is, but it appears to me, that the people here are not up so early. The longer I was on my way the more people I was meeting.
I past straight beside the Singapore Formula 1 racecourse! That was really funny, I didn’t know that it is there!
Under a bridge I wound some Otter playing around with each other. It was so much fun to watch them 😊
Around lunchtime more and more clouds were coming in from the ocean, so I decided to slowly start to walk back to the hostel, but this time through the city. I was anyway extremely exhausted and the air here is so heavy that I had to Stopp and sit down many times.
It was the best decision for today I can say! I went to eat in an Indian place closed to the hostel and after a while, it started to rain a little bit. And like 20 min later, I was already in the hostel, it started to rain like hell 😳 A big thunderstorm was straight over us. Another guest told me they were expecting a typhoon, but a local told me, it’s Monsun season now, so it’s normal and nothing to worry about.
I then decided to spend the rest of the day in the hostel and took a little nap.
Then I was eating a little bit and talked over two hours with a woman, that is from Singapore but is now spending most of her time in New Zealand.

I haven’t planned anything yet for tomorrow, I will first look how the weather is going to be and maybe ask the woman for some tips, where to go and what to do 😊

  • Gardens by the Bay

    3 Desember 2019, Singapura ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

I woke up at 9 am after a good sleep! It is quite noisy in the sleeping pods but everyone is trying to be as quiet as possible, so that’s really nice. First I had a good breakfast 😊
The weather was actually much better than expected. Yesterday it was standing that it should rain the whole day today. It has been quite cloudy throughout the whole day and quite windy as well, but that's actually really nice like this. The air is not so heavy and easier for me to handle. So I decided to go to the Gardens by the Bay.
Even though it’s not so warm it’s still not so easy to walk long distances for me. But at least I didn’t need to Stopp as often as yesterday 💪🏼

The Gardens by the Bay are a really nice area. There are a lot of smaller gardens all around the area that you can just walk through without buying a ticket or so. These so-called Heritage Gardens are all from a different country. So you have a Chinese garden, a Malayan garden and so on.
I then went up the Skywalk. From here you have a nice view of the city and the bay, I can imagine that it’s even better on a day without clouds.
Then I went to the Cloud Forest.
This is really a spectacular place! So much information about the cloud forest and how important it is to the ecosystem!
I spent really much time there, maybe also because of the nice air conditioning 🙈😂 oh it was such a lovely cold in there.
At last I went to the Flower Dome. Here they have a lot of different flowers from all over the world.
When I came out of the Flower Dome more and more black cloud was coming in from the ocean. So I decided to walk back to the hostel after eating something on the way. I was anyway quite exhausted.
It was just starting to drop a little bit when I reached the hostel. Perfect timing again 😉
The rest of the afternoon and evening was very calm. I took a short nap and then was reading a little. I was then ending up talking with some people at the hostel until almost 11 pm.
Tomorrow isn’t last day in Singapore before I jump at 6.30 pm into the next airplane to Auckland 🤗

  • On the way again

    4 Desember 2019, Singapura ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Today is my last day in Singapore. I woke up quite late so I didn’t plan something big before I need to go to the airport.
That was actually the best decision I could make! It’s extremely hot outside today and I got really problems with the heat and moisture out there.
So I just went to the river and was sitting there in the shadow and reading a bit until it was time to grab some lunch and go back to the hostel to pick up my backpack and take the train to the airport. Luckily the air condition in the train was working perfectly 😅
After I checked in I took a walk through the airport but was ending up by my beloved foot massage as always 😊
This time icky with Air New Zealand to Auckland!

  • New Zealand

    5 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

After almost 10 hours flight I finally reached Auckland, New Zealand!
The weather is lovely here 😍
The flight was good, but unfortunately, I had bad luck again with two crying children almost all flight long 😳😬
So I got almost no rest... So it’s not surprising, that I am quite tired now. But definitely less than when I travel all the way at once without a Stopp over! So that really paid off!
After clearing customers I got picked up with my new car 😍
We went straight to the AA for the registration of my car and get insurance. After that, we went to the office and fixed the rest of the paperwork! Hopefully, my car will travel safely through New Zealand with me 😊
I also got a lot of tips, about what I should think and so on. It’s really nice to know, if there is something, I can always call the owner from the company and he will help me fix everything.
After that, I went shopping and then to the campground he recommended to me, just 30 min outside of Auckland. It’s a really nice and calm place here.
For today I have nothing more planned. Only get organized and recover from the trip so I can start into new adventures tomorrow 🤗

  • Hunua Falls and Waitawa Regional Park

    6 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Being awake at 4 o’clock in the morning and having really hard to fall asleep again leads to waking up only a few minutes before I am supposed to leave the campground 🙈😂
Luckily it’s so nice weather today again, so I woke up because it got to hot inside the car 😂
So it was a stressful start in the day but I managed to eat some breakfast at least 😉

First I went to the Hunua Ranges Regional Park to see the Hunua Fall.
What a big and beautiful waterfall!
I decided against the 3 h walk, I didn’t have enough breakfast for that 🙈

Then I went back to Manukau to buy the stuff I forgot to buy yesterday. Shopping when really tired is not a good idea 🙈😂

After that, I went to Waitawa Regional Park and the ocean! Finally at the ocean. Such a nice place I found! I had my lunch at the beach and then I went to check the water temperature. It was surprisingly warm so I decided to take a swim! 🤗
It was soooo lovely! I enjoyed it really much! I was inside the water 3 times at all. I didn’t really want to leave anymore, but I had too because I got very hungry. 😉

So I went back to Ramarama for the night.
For tomorrow I gonna go on a Tree Adventure with Marika, who is here with a horse from Australia 😊

  • Tree Adventures

    7 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

Today I went up early to pick up Marika at the farm where she is staying with her horse at the moment.
We booked a tour with Tree Adventures in Woodhill Forest. 🤗
First I got to see the stable and meet all the people there. As all Kiwi, very welcoming and open people 😊
We then had to hit the road so we don’t get too late to Woodhill Forest.
We could only choose between the advanced or expert course because everything else was already booked out. So we took the advanced course.

I can say, we did just right! The extreme course didn’t look funny at all 😱
We were more than happy with our challenges.
We had 4 courses we could do. We start with nr 6 because it was so many people waiting already by nr 5.
We had soo much fun I can say!
It was a really interesting and challenging mix of obstacles. Some were pretty tuff others even scary 😳
But we did them all and we enjoyed every single minute of it!

After that, we went to Muriwai Beach and had some well-needed lunch. We then took a walk on the beach. It’s black sand here and it was really hot too 😳😬
The ocean is pretty rough here, we walked a bit to the water to put our feeds in, very cold!!! Don’t understand how so many people could swim there 😳🙈
On the way back a big wave came in from behind and suddenly we were wet up to the ass 😱
From no water to a lot of water in 1 sec 😳 That was actually scary. The ocean is extremely powerful here. After this wet experience, we decided to walk up to the lookout point! The view from here is really, unfortunately, it was very foggy over the beach.

Then it was time to hit the road again and drive back. We were quite tired from our exhausting trip through the trees 😊

For tonight and tomorrow, the weather forecast is horrible, so I will probably stay at the campground, but I will decide that tomorrow when I know more.

  • Ramarama

    8 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Chilly day for me today. Due to the weather forecast, I decided to stay at the campground today and do simple nothing.
Well, I made up my mind about the next days/weeks at least. The weather is really bad in the south part of the south island, so I decided to stay around a week up here in the north of the north island before I start to travel south. Hopefully, the weather is already getting better down there then, if not I will stay for a while in the Abel Tasman region.
So I will be going to the races on Saturday here in Ackland as Marika's horse made it to the Interdominion Final for Trotters 🤩🤗

In fact, the weather was quite good today. At least here but by all the big and black clouds that were passing over the campground only losing some drops here, I can imagine that it was raining really much in other places around Auckland.
So all went out perfect 😊
    New adventures tomorrow 😉

  • Mt William and Vivien Falls

    9 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

This morning I went to Raglan.
My first Stopp was not even 20 km away from the campground, Mt William.
I thought this would be a nice walk to get started with. How could I be so wrong?! 🙈😳
Oh my god, this was a really tuff one. For a while I thought my fitness level appears to be much worst then I was thinking, but in fact, the walk was really steep almost all the way 😳
But the view was amazing up there! I have to admit, that I didn’t make it up to the top, I simply gave up when I had around 1/5 left 🙈

After that, I went to Vivien Falls! This was just a very short and easy walk from the carpark, nice!
A beautiful place where I spent some time, simply enjoying nature 😊

  • Bridal Veil Falls

    9 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

My last Stopp before Raglan was at the Bridal Veil Falls, called to be the most beautiful waterfall in Waikato.
At he is definitely living up to his nickname!
What an impressive waterfall! I went all the way down to the bottom, which was easy. They way up again, was not 🙈😂
    But I made it! 💪🏼
Gonna have a lot of pain in my muscles tomorrow, I already feel it now 😂

As tired as I was I decided to go straight to the campground from here. Really nice campground, directly beside the beach 🤗
If just the wind would be less and not so cold 🙈
But this actually doesn’t affect me so much anymore! I don’t miss to sleep in a tent when it’s blowing!!! 😉

  • Te Toto Gorge

    10 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

After a calm morning at the campground with some washing and reading on the beach, I went to Te Toto Gorge to move a little bit what would hopefully help with the pain in my muscles from yesterday...

This area here is really beautiful everywhere you are looking around!
The road to Te Toto Gorge was really narrow and I had to drive extremely slowly and carefully but I had an amazing view over the Tasman sea and the land around 😊
On the way back I Stopp on many different lookouts and beaches, watched the surfers for a while at Whale Bay!

Then it was more than time to think about lunch.
I heard a lot about a place called The Wharf and that they should sell the best fish and chips in the country.
I can with no doubt say, it was definitely the best fish and chips I have been eating so far! 😊
And more than enough for dinner as well!

  • Piha Beach

    11 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Today I was leaving Raglan again and headed back north to Auckland. I was hoping to do a Canyoning Trip here but unfortunately, they didn't have any more bookings so they had to cancel the trip in the end.
I stopped in Manukau for some shopping, I bought some flynets so I can sleep alone in my car but can still leave some windows open. 😊

After that I let a guy check my tires as I have noticed, that the steering wheel is vibrating quite much when I drive around 100km/h.
Good decision, the left front wheel was a little bit wobbly so the change it. Now I can't feel any vibrions anymore 😊
After that, I hit the road to get to Piha Beach! This must be paradise, or at least really close to it! The campground is just a 5 min walk away from the beach 😎🤗

  • Karekare Waterfall and Karekare Beach

    12 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

After a relaxed morning, I went to Karekare to see the waterfall and the beach there.
The road there was an experience 😳 Luckily I never met someone 🙈
Already by driving down the road to the waterfall I was thinking about how the hell I should come up here again 🙈😂

At least the waterfall was soo much worth it! It's like a little paradise there. As I was alone there I was standing there for a while and just enjoying it 😊

After that, I went to the beach, which is just a 15 min walk away from the waterfall.

The beach is really big and not as crowded as Piha beach, I saw 6 other people while I was there 😉
It's called one of the most dangerous beaches in New Zealand and they recommend only to swim there when Lifeguards are at the beach.
So I was more than happy with a walk over the beach 😎

  • Blowhole and Taitomo Island

    12 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

As I needed to wait for low tide to go and explore some part of the beach I had a relaxing lunch and afternoon on the campground, reading a book and doing nothing. When it was finally low tide I went to the beach to discover the so-called blowhole, even though it more likely a tunnel through the stone. As the water hasn’t gone away on the other side the waves were pushing water through the tunnel constantly.

At the end of the beach was a small “swimming pool” and you can climb up on the rocks to look into a cave and then even climb up onto the Taitomo Rock or Island. It’s an Island by high tide.

I went up only halfway, it was a really steep and tricky path so I was satisfied with the view from there! The way down was even more tricky than the way up 🙈
    But I made it!

After that, it was time to go back to the campground as my stomach told me it was more than time to get something to eat 😂

  • Kitekite Falls

    13 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

For today I planned to visit the Kitekite Falls.
I could choose from different walking tracks there so I decided to take one track to the falls and the other one back to the car park! From the first track, I could turn off to walk up to the top of the waterfall! Many stairs to climb up, but so worth it again! This waterfall seems to fall in many stairs as there is a small pool underneath each drop! It will be interesting to see it from below!
The walk down was easy as the path I very good and it's mostly stairs I didn't need to look out for every single step I am doing.

The waterfalls are really impressive to look at from the bottom. It is safe to swim in the pool there but it's not so warm jet, so I saw no one swimming in there. 😉

On the way back was a really nice viewing platform from where you could see almost the whole waterfall. From the bottom, you can't see the first two ”stairs” of the waterfall!

After that, I went back for a calm afternoon on the campground to wait for the low tide again, as I planned to climb up on the Lion Rock today.
It is very cloudy today and it was just before I want to go to the lion rick starting to get better and more and more sun was coming through the clouds! So I could actually do the walk in nice weather!
Shortly after it was already getting very cloudy again and it's starting to look more and more like it's going to rain, as it also did during the night and early morning.

  • Upper Nihotupo Walk and MT Eden

    14 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Today it's time to travel to Auckland!
The first stop was at the Upper Nihotupo Walk. This walk takes a little more than 1 hour. I walked through a nice forest, passing two nice waterfalls to a big dam. This lake is a water resource for Auckland. It was a really nice and easy walk and a good start in the day.

After that, I went to Auckland and after wasting so much time searching for a parking place, I climbed up on Mount Eden to enjoy the amazing view over the whole city. Unfortunately, it was still quite cloudy but the view was really nice even like this! On a day with good weather, it must be amazing!

After that, I went to the campground and used the afternoon to get some stuff fixed before I went out for my evening adventure 🤗

  • Alexander Park

    14 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

After a short drive to Alexander Park, the first problem was again, find a parking place! 🙈
As it's a big day today with big races, it was not so easy but I found one, and this one was turning out to be perfect as it was closed to the parking place for the horse trucks and I was on the way to the track running into David, the trainer from Australia I spend some days with last year and also Marika boss! He got really happy to see me 😊

He told me that he was waiting for the horses and Marika to come as they are supposed to be here any minute.
So we were standing and talking a bit until they were coming. Thanks to them I got a ticket for the stable area and could walk to and from the stable area as I wanted! Nice!
After walking with Big Jack Hammer and fixing the stuff, Marika was showing me around, introduced me to some people and explained to me how everything is going to be!
Its mostly the same in Australia, with some small difference.
    I had a great evening!
The horse on the first picture is New Zealand’s best trotter over the years! He was winning over 1,5 million dollars and is a real star here!
He was leading the parade for the Interdominion Final for trotters.
This was also the race big Jack Hammer was racing in. I really do t like to run the wrong way, as they do here. He really struggled with it already through the 3 qualification heats but managed anyway to come to the final.
So they didn’t expect so much from this race today.

So they there satisfied with his 7th place as he actually did what he could with his struggle to get around the track the wrong way!

The final in the Interdominian Pacing Race was really exciting as it got really close in the end, but the big favorite, who already won all three! qualification heads managed to keep his head in front!

I had a really nice evening with friends and awesome horses! 😊

  • Auckland

    15 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

For today my plan was to discover Auckland. After a good breakfast, I went into the city. I had a really hard time finding a parking place.
And as I will find out later, my choice was really bad 😳

I went to a Backpacker hostel first as I was hoping, that my registration papers for my car were already coming. Unfortunately, they were not, but the friendly staff told me, that they could send them to another address in New Zealand when they get them. Now I just needed to find out an address.

After that, I went to the harbor. Unfortunately, they are building everywhere in Auckland and especially around the harbor. So it was hard to go around and see something. 😕
I then went back to the city. As I was walking around a big black cloud was coming in and it got darker and darker with every minute.
I then decided that I go back to the campground as I just can’t connect with the city at all and didn’t feel for getting wet.

The rest of the day I spend at the campground. It didn’t rain as much as expected but I don’t regret my decision as the parking ticket was really expensive 😱😱

  • Mangaweka

    16 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

For today I planned to drive south. I was lucky to book a quite cheap ticket for the Interislander Ferry on Tuesday afternoon. Most tickets are very expensive, like 330$, but I got one of the last ones for 177$ 🥳🤗
Even though this means, that I will have quite many hours of driving in front of me today and a little bit more tomorrow it was the best decision. It’s going to be really bad weather everywhere on the North Island today and tomorrow, so what could I do better than drive around to finally come to the South Island.

I passed again by the Hostel in Auckland, as I ask a family I’ve met last time if I could get them to send the letter to them, what was absolutely no problem at all! So my plan was to just leave a paper with the address there but surprisingly they had my paper there! So I got them instead and don’t need to think about it anymore! Perfect!
As I was thinking of I could give Auckland one more go, it started raining... So I went straight back to my car to hit the road and get out of Auckland.
It should not Stopp raining for a couple of hours. In between, it was raining so much that I Stopp beside the road and was waiting for the worst to pass over.
Extremely bad was it while I was passing the Tongariro National Park.

As I came closer to my final destination for today the rain got less and less and the sky got a little bit brighter.
Luckily it was only a couple of small shower during the evening.
I spent the night in Mangaweka a small town closed to Palmerston North.
It took me a total of 6 hours from Auckland to come here due to the weather conditions mostly.

  • Mangaweka to Picton

    17 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

I woke up this morning from a thunder.
But the thunderstorm never came to the camping ground. It was obviously not raining during the night and after 15 minutes the sun was starting to come out. I took it easy, as I have just around 3 hours left to Wellington and don’t need to be before 3 pm in the afternoon.
So I took a small walk around the campground as it is closed to a river and a big grey wall.

Then I slowly started to drive toward Wellington. I stopped for some shopping and had lunch at McDonald's, was just feeling for it today 🙈
Also nice with some free WiFi as I had over one hour to waste. It’s raining now, so no sense to find seething to do or see.
When it was time I went to the Ferry terminal.
It’s still raining but luckily it’s not blowing at all! I was a little bit worried the last days as the weather forecast was saying there will be a lot of wind today and I have heard many times that it is not funny to cross over the Cook Straight when it is really windy.
So I am really, really lucky again with this trip! Cheap and perfect sea conditions 🥳🤗
    Can’t be more satisfied 😊
We left Wellington in time! Not so much to see from inside the ferry as it’s still raining and you can barely look out from the windows.
Unfortunately, the weather never got better so it was no sense to go out and enjoy the scenery.
But the ocean was calm all the way so it was a really nice ride at least and to be honest I prefer it this way!
For the night I will stay on a campground in Picton.
Hopefully, the weather is already getting better tomorrow. I cross my fingers for this 🤞🏼

    18 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

After a night and a morning with a lot of rain I went from Picton to Takaka. It was still raining when I left Picton but got less and less and after while it finally stopped and the sun started to come forward!
I amgont to meet a woman in Takaka with whom I am planning to do the Abel Tasman Coastal Walk together! It's much nicer and easier to do longer walks with someone together. 😊
After a stop to fuel up and having a quick lunch in Motueka I arrived at around 3 pm in Takaka. We me at the I-Side and directly got along really good. We decided to have a relaxed afternoon to get to know each other better.
We found a beautiful free campground beside a river and was getting settled there. We talked a lot about everything and a little about how we gonna do the Abel Tasman Walk best.
That worked out really good and we decided to go to the I-Side tomorrow morning to book everything.

We was the cooking together and having a nice dinner before it got to fresh to sit outside together any longer.

    19 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

After a good breakfast in the sun, we went to the I-Side to book the water taxi and accommodation for the Abel Tasman Coastal Walk. Unfortunately, we had to move our plans one day back, as there was no free accommodation in Onetahuti on Friday.
So we are now driving to Totaranui on Friday, staying there for one night and then catch the first water taxi on Saturday morning to go to Anchorage and from there we are going to walk to Onetahuti, stay there overnight and then walk on Sunday back to my car in Totaranui. The weather forecast is good for these days so we are really looking forward to it! 🤗

After that, we went for a fast shopping trip and then we were decided to go north for today. So we went to Puponga and Wharariki Beach. We stopped at Cape Farewell on the way and then we were enjoying the beach. We were even finding two fur seals in a little cave 😊
Unfortunately, the weather was getting worse after a while so we went back to the car.
On the way back to the Farewell Spit I got a flat tire and we had to find some help to fix it as I don't have the equipment to change a tire in my car, something I will need to buy as soon as possible!
Luckily this happened close to some houses and the people were so friendly and helping us to change the tire and gave me the name and number for the next garage in Collingwood as well. So we called them and went there straight away. He looked at the tire and said, that this can happen on the gravel roads. It’s a big crack in the tire from a stone and it is just bad luck.
They will look until tomorrow morning if they have a new tire or an old one I could use at least until I come to Nelson. So hopefully I will be fine! 🤞🏼
It’s just not feeling so good as I need to drive over a long gravel road tomorrow to come to Toturanui 😳🙈
As it looked more and more like we will get a lot of rain soon, we decided to find a nice campground for tonight not too far away from Collingwood.

We were just ready with putting up Lu’s tent as it started to rain.
We then had a nice hot shower and a good dinner together before we just were getting ourselves into our tent/car.

The weather was horrible over the whole night. A lot of rain, wind and thunderstorm.
I was sleeping really bad I must say. And when I woke up from water dropping on my arm I got a little bit panic 😳😬
But I found the problem!! One of my Flipflops obviously was stuck in the door and the door not completely closed. So it was dropping in from there. But as soon as I fixed it, it stopped!! Lucky me! 😅

    20 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

After a horrible night, we took it easy in the morning. At least the sun is shining again but it's still really windy.
We had even some eggs for breakfast today 😉

Then we went to the garage in Collingwood. They told me that there was no way to repair the tire and they, unfortunately, don't have one in the same size. So we had to drive to Takaka with the reserve tire. But at least there are supposed to be 4 garages so we had a lot of hope, that one would have the tire we need. 🤞🏼
At the first garage, they didn't have a tire for us straight away but they were supposed to get them in the afternoon.
We then said, we go and ask at the other place next to them if they have one as we need it as soon as possible, so we can keep on going with ou plan, but at least we knew, we definitely gonna be a new tire today at least.

The other garage actually at the right tire but they didn't have the time to put it on until Tuesday. So we went back to the first place and ask if they could put on the tire and they had time for it straight away! So we got the tire from the other place and left the car there for around one hour!
We went to the small market that is in the town center today during the time we were waiting for my car and bought some really nice fruits!
And we even met the little rotti girl! Isn't she adorable? 😍

Then we picked up my car and started our trip for today. We stopped by the Rawhiti Cave first. I have been here last time as well, but I forgot how difficult the hike to the cave is 🙈
It was really slippery from last night's rain and took us more time than expected. But the cave is still very impressive!

After that, we also stopped by the Wainui Fall.
Last time people were swimming in the pool under the waterfall, this time it was impossible because the waterfall was so strong and carried so much water, that it would be dangerous to swim there! A bit different from last time.

We then went to Toturanui for the night. Finally, the wind was starting to slow down more and more and we spent some time just relaxing and enjoying the weather before it was time to get some food ready.
While I was cooking Lu was playing a little bit on here guitar!

After that, we started to back our backpacks for the next two days, as we gonna hike the middle part of the Abel Tasman Coastal Walk! 🤗
Hopefully, I get a good sleep tonight because tomorrow we gonna sleep in her tent together, because the huts are so expensive and we just don want to spend so much money for it!
Gonna be fine like this! We are going really got together and it’s really nice to have company for this!

  • Abel Tasman Coastal Walk Day 1

    21 Desember 2019, Selandia Baru ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

After a good sleep, we had plenty of time to wake up, eat breakfast and pack everything ready for our two days hike!
The water taxi was supposed to pick us up at 11 am. As we were ready on time, we went to the best earlier! To sit there and enjoy the view and sun!
Our water taxi was actually early as well and arrived already at 10.30!
It took some time to collect all the people and get them and all the stuff on board but we left Totaranui a little bit earlier as planned anyway.
We stopped 2 different bays on the way until it was our time to jump off the boat and start our adventure. 🤩
We first went to the toilet, washed our feeds and got the shoes on and off we were at around 12 o’clock. The first part was really easy. We are so lucky that we are arriving at low tide so we can cross over the short way to Torrents Bay. We had to pass some water streams which were deeper than expected and we got wet all the way over the knees 🙈 But the weather is good, so it’s nothing to worry about. If just the wind could Stopp soon...
The next part of the track was worse, as we had to walk up the hill for quite some time. At least we saw a lot of different birds on the way and the view from up there is just amazing and so worth it to walk all the way up!

We took some smaller stops on the way for some peaches or apples and arrived in Bark Bay around 3.30 pm.
Here we took a longer break, were eating our sandwiches and had a swim in the ocean as well. The water was quite fresh but still very nice and refreshing!

From here it was supposed to be around 2 hours to Onetahuti so we were back on the track at 16.20 for the last part. 💪🏼

What we didn’t know, it’s gonna be the worst part of it 😳
Oh my god, the way up this hill was so long and so steep that we had to Stopp many times on the way to catch our breath and relax our muscles a little bit. We were really relieved when we reached the top of the hill!
At least the rest of the way was mostly going down the hill and we arrived in Onetahuti around 6.15 pm.

We first were relaxing for a while and the building up the tent and started to cook something.
We were so exhausted from the day so we went to bed around 8 pm already. 🙈😂
Hopefully, I can sleep something as the Wekas here are really annoying and trying to steal everything and even trying to get into the tents as well!
Otherwise, it's a really nice place to spent one night on the beach 😊
